The Inter-Area one day championships were held at Didcot Conservative club on Sunday. Many congratulations to Wallingford who beat Oxford in the final of the Norrey Lambert sevens by four games to two. Both groups were very close. In Group A Oxford had 12 points after three games and Reading, Witney and Northampton all had 10 points. In Group B Wallingford and High Wycombe had 11 points and Eynsham and Portsmouth had 10 points but Wallingford went through by virtue of games won.
In the final, wins from Tony Martin, Dennis Atkins, Leon Beer and Dave Tooke ensured that Wallingford retained the title. Well done to Oxford, who were missing some of their superstars and still made it into the Final.
The high break award went to Ian Moquet with 11,700 and It was good to see him playing here again after many, many years! Although the format does not encourage very high breaks there were 10K breaks from Mike Jones, Matt Jones, Leon Beer, Jon Bamsey, Geoff Pitt and Simon Coleman. Allan Lacey (4/4) Jon Bamsey, Geoff Pitt, Matt Jones, Dennis Claydon, Mike Jones and Lee Radford (all 3/3) were all undefeated on the day.
In the ladies ProPlumb fives there were only three teams again and Dawn Jordan guested for Reading to make up the numbers.
The final table was;
Oxford played well all day winning all of their games and only Dawn Jordan (Reading) and Sue Atkins (Oxford) winning four from four games. Mel Standbridge had an excellent day and took the highest break award with 6220.
The Under 25 competition is reported elsewhere.
An excellent day and many thanks to Jenny Parsons, Dave Tooke and Terry Alder for helping, to Jenny Florey for selling so many raffle tickets, to all the folk who donated raffle prizes, to the Didcot Con Club staff and catering people and of course to Mark Trafford, the Oxon BBA, Dave Alder and the AEBBA for supplying the tables. All most appreciated and a true team effort.
