White Hart have called our match off tonight.
Their reasons sound genuine, however it's the third time it's happened to us this season, each time by an Alfold or Cranleigh team. (Compasses/Springbok/now the White Hart).
We are beginning to have a complex about teams just not wanting to come all the way to Crawley to play us, and will be considering our position for next season very carefully.

Sounds like you are being paranoid Tommo. ;-) Funny how people don't give a second thought to the fact that you have to go all the way over there.

Hi Clive, You have my sympathy and I understand your frustration. We all know we will have the pleasure of creepy town at least once a season, made up for by the company of your esteemed team (especially Margo). Please do not spend to long considering your position and please remain in the league.

Clive When you have the comfort of more than 5 players one who's father is on his death bed and one who has norovirus perhaps you can understand why we had to postpone Not cancel the fixture but if you are so paranoide perhaps we should withdraw from the league

Barney, You will note that I was very careful to say: Their reasons sound genuine, ...thus my comments are not intended to offend your team. If I have failed in this intention, then I apologise profusely. Health is more important than bar billiards, and I wish you and yours the very best towards recovery if at all possible. Your team and my team must have the highest average age of any team, how many years have we known each other ? I have been bed-ridden myself for the past few days and probably not thinking clearly - linking the latest short-notice postponement to other frustrations about the 4-player rule - designed to reduce the number of match postponements which had reached epidemic proportions (12 in the season before last) - but does not seem to have had a great deal of effect ! Quote: I would be horrified if you withdrew on our account, and if we and Crawley are so hated then I feel it should be we who are the ones to go. Believe it or not, our team has also struggled this season: I didn't want to play a single game but have finished up playing nine !

Exactly what I was thinking, Barney. Have asked our landlady to pencil in Wed.20th April in her diary for our match as the designated 'spare week'. Hope you are all fully fit by then and able to make that date. My heart goes out to whoever it is who is about to lose a parent, especially as I lost my mum last July.

Springbok Club 3 Stout House A 2
Gary 2730 Tony 1910 A nervous and close game throughout, Gary did nudge in front, but Tony always on his tail. Gary relieved to hear the bar drop
Mike 810 Brian 3840 Brian left the break short and Mike missed, from then on Brian mastered the table and was a pleasure to watch.
Robin 6280 James 3220 A cracking game that was a lot closer than the final scores show. Robin did put together a couple of useful breaks but James showed he is a class player too with some decent cue play as well.
Trevor BP Craig 2820 For me this was a messy game, whatever I tried I simply could not get the balls back and I had my chances. Craig kept his head down to keep adding valuable points to the board. I did get the break with the bar and 6 whites left, split cleaning twice BP on the third. Hey Ho
Bill 2590 Barry 2580 A close and nervous game which Barry commanded from the start, however Bill stayed cool and finished with the 100 to win by the smallest of margins.
A great night, very close as expected and decent game by both teams.
