First leg played tonight at Albion Fishersgate.... Duke of Wellington 4 Roffey Club H 1 Jean Brackenridge 7,750* - 140 Adam Kuzimski Jean opened with 2.5k but was first to get them back and made another 2.6k break, Skippy then got the break back and was looking comfortable with 4.7k before he got a shot wrong on the side cushion near the 50 hole and took out a peg, Jean gratefully finished the game off with another 2.5k. 1-0 Nigel Senior 8,250 - 5,110* Iain Tarrant Iain made a good 4k plus opening break and maintained the lead for a long time with Nigel unable to get the break back.... eventually he did and he touched on 8k to take the win. 2-0 Chris Tupper 3,470 - 8,880* Stuart Carruthers A good game from Stuart who started with about 1.7k then added a good 5k plus break, Tupps did get the balls back but was struggling for time and then came off leaving Stuart to finish off. 2-1 Dave Ingram 15,440* - 710 Steve Hopkins 11.8k opening break from me, touching up under pressure from captain! A few visits each after that before I finished the game. 3-1 Matthew Knight 8,670 - 3,570* Rob Jones Rob unfortunately put the break down 4 times, Matt touched up on 8k and Rob then found various ways to lose his score before getting the break back (to a big "BOOM" when the red ball went in the 200 hole) and making a good break at the end. As you would expect with the players there, it was a very quiet evening with no banter, barracking or frivolity and we look forward to another evening of the same next week at Roffey Club.... thanks for a great evening guys!

Oh dear think there's lots of thinking going on before our result is posted!! You're right Jean there is, but I've got to be careful so as not to mention your name at the centre of some outrageous behaviour this evening Easy bit the scores:- Roffey 2-3 Duke of Wellington (agg 3-7) **Dick 5310 - 4570 Matt Stuart 4590 - 5790 Jean** Iain 860 - 7670 Dave** **Steve 7380 - 3600 Tupps Adam 390 - 19,280 Nigel** Some plus points from the evening... very friendly and pleasant company (the opposition that is) excellent break of 19,040 in the last leg from Nigel.....he did miss both balls with his first break shot though very good leg from Hoppo....was that really you bud?? nice spread of food, thanks plenty of chocolate......and drink consumed not sure under which heading this should be, Dave having 2 3 or maybe 4 breaks to get his score a very nice elderly member who I thought was going to tell us off but just wanted to join in the fun Unsavoury Incidents from the evening... the raucous behaviour of certain members of the away team (another letter from noise control on the way) the away captain "assaulting" a member of his own team (it was definitely a red card tackle) the inappropriate use of the word "hard" by the current Brighton Ladies Singles Champion, who in trying to dig herself out of a hole just sunk deeper and deeper into it.........laughter quickly turning into tears the appearance of the Horsham Mafia who just added to the insults I think the bar staff had enough of us.... the away captain on the receiving end of some verbal abuse (which was fully justified) somehow getting lost on the way home and a very posh sat-nav man telling us so The two ladies were discussing on the way home that it would probably be necessary for them to take most Fridays off in the winter next season because it was just too much....great night

A good evening with the Swan Nomads.
Rick Cunningham v Tony Burgess
Rick opened with 10590 break, couple efforts each before Rick got them back. 13570 - 490
Tony Jenner v Neil Higgins
Neil missed split early and then missed ball by 10 hole when cue ball rolled right on him, TJ balls back off at 2.3k when he missed split and didn`t recover at top end of table. Neil after couple of goes each first to get them back steady 3k when missed split, TJ got them straight back and steady play out to last ball 10090 - 490
Pete Hickman v Gary Ridley
Gary off early and a lot of top of table play and Gary first to get them back, crafted a very good 4k break, Pete balls back 5k down, 4 minutes left, with having to push it Pete couldn`t settle on the one up but did play the table out 4380 - 5560
Terry Molloy v Paul Barnett
Terry off early, Paul 10020 break, Terry shook hands 1210 - 10020
Steve Aylmore v Nick Brown
Both contrived to lose this one, both leaving one up short on 2 occasions, Nick built 2k lead with just over 2 minutes left, Steve break back and kept it going to make sure, Nick black pegged going for the 200 4150 - 0
So a 3-2 lead to take to the Swan in fortnight, all to play for and one very relieved captain as I thought we were going to grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

Highlighted all that is good about bar billiards with some competitive games, good play, some awful shots (Mr Ingram tried to say he played the worst shot of the night but the two captains were having none of it as between us we had already claimed all of the top ten), friendly banter between teams and some incredibly outrageous funny comments... how Nigel kept his concentration to keep going on his break is beyond me!!! Good luck to the Wellie in the next round and hopefully will get to play you again some stage in the not too distant future.

Swan Nomads v Albion
Roger Taylor v Steve Aylmore
Roger off early, Steve couple of breaks built a good lead, Roger balls back but ran out of time 4820 - 5340 2-4
Pete Hickman first one up behind, Paul Barnett nice 8k + break to make sure 12070 - 620 3-4
Tony Jenner first one up short Neil good 7k break makes sure 8720 - 1060 4-4
Nick Brown off early, Rick Cunningham 2.5k break, Nick first for balls back and makes sure with 6k break 7790 - 2970 5-4
Terry Molloy opens with 3.7k, Tony Burgess first to get them back 1.8k break and then after some top of table stuff he gets them back at 2.3k leaves one right in front of the 10 hole, plays it off the back cushion and sinks the cue ball in the 10 but a wicked kick takes the object ball into the left hand peg, Terry goes to table and bar drops 1980 - 4630 5-5 and a decider.
Nick first one up short, TJ a very uncertain 1.9k and then another unconvincing 2.3k, Nick gets them back but off 800 short, a scappy couple of minutes at the top end Nick gets them back and makes sure 4950 - 4240 6-5
Well done to the Nomads and good luck in the next round, apologies to my team for a bad night at the office, as usual a very good night with Neil and his team.

I received a text from Dave Jones at 6.30 tonight to say that he did not have a team for the second leg scheduled for tonight Very disappointing to be given less than 2 hours notice, especially as the venue had prepared food for the match. Hopefully the match will be rearranged very soon....
