What a night at the Happy Landings. Firstly Ian Champion finally gets one old advisory Darren Ogier. In their previous meetings I have always been able to beat Ian and it was beginning to affect his self esteem.
One other slightly controversial
incident which Darren failed to mention occurred during my game against Roy Le Page.
Having lost the first march convincingly following my hazardous and risky journey to the venue via Guernseybus, I was looking forward to a win to level the match scores (still behind on aggregate) after the first match.
Roy having a late surge (or Denim moment) came from behind
(chance would be a fine thing)and realised he was getting close to beating me.
When the bar dropped, after many lengthy attempts of checking the score with the marker, Roy calculated he could win the match with 200 or secure a draw with the last ball down the 100 pocket.
As there are no written rules for this summer league, I queried the fact that drawn games did not exist and half points do not count
A hastily convened Extraordinary General Meeting discussion followed and Roy duly got his chance by attempting the draw, not feeling confident enough to go for the 200 and the 3-0 win. He missed the hole by a country mile and I deservedly got a point with my first attempt at the 100
