We are sad to advise you all of the death of our dear friend and colleague ALAN DOWNS.
I'm knocked sideways by this one, Alan had a great enthusiasm for the game and had just taken on our Wednesday night captaincy.
Will add further details once they are known.

This is a great shock and He was a vital member of 2 local teams and will be really missed. I have known Alan for many years and always enjoyed playing against him he always had a great sense of fair play. RIP Alan.

What a shock as we chatted recently, and agree with IanG as I always found Alan great company and gentleman at the table..... he was a good player and had my respect throughout the last 20 years. Another good one gone.
My condolences to his Family and friends. RIP Alan

Have read this unhappy news: Alan and I met many times over the years, a sad loss to the BB community.

I'm beginning to hate this year, so many lovely people leaving us Please pass on my condolences, I have many happy memories of Alan, one of the true gentlemen of our sport. To cap it all we've just heard from a good friend up in Luton who found their 21year old son dead in bed earlier this week, how can life be so cruel?

We were shocked to hear this news. Alan was a lovely man and, as others have said, a true gentleman.
I've known Alan for many years, sometimes as an opponent, but also as a team mate in Mid Sussex 'B' for many seasons and he was a great help to me when I was an Interleague rookie.
RIP Alan
