A reminder that this will be held at Didcot Conservative Club on Sunday 12th February 2017. All eight associations have confirmed their seven-aside teams and they have been drawn thus;
Group A Wallingford Witney Northampton High Wycombe
Group B Eynsham Portsmouth Oxford Reading
The analogous Ladies competition is struggling for entries at five asides so it has been decided to make it THREE a side. Please let me know the number of teams your association will enter as soon as possible please.
The Ray Sturgess Cup qualification age has been raised to thirty and I am inviting entries - it will NOT be possible to play in both the Ray Sturgess and the main competitions this year I am afraid.

OK - this is the last call for the Inter Area Ray Sturgess Under 30s and Ladies One Day Singles Championship. One more lady and a couple more U30s would be good but it's all workable now. I have at the moment; Under 30sKyle Ingram Stephen Coleman Lewis Stratford LadiesMary Leeming Sophie Shambrook Pauline Withey Sonya McIntyre Mel Stanbridge Jenny Parsons Myra Hawkins Carla Jolly Janet Burns

Sunday saw the 2017 Inter-area one day event take place at Didcot Conservative club when about 80 of us gathered for this annual occasion. It was not possible to run a ladies team competition this year due to various factors, but we decided to do a ladies individual Championship on the day and this proved very successful. In the seven-a-sides the usual two groups were drawn and after some very competitive billiards the final tables looks like this; Group A; Wallingford 15 points, Northants 12 points, High Wycombe 9 points and Witney 6 points. Group B; Portsmouth 14 points, Reading 11 points, Eynsham 11 points and Oxford 6 points In the Final Wallingford prevailed by four games to Pompey’s two to retain the title and the seventh game was unnecessary. Dennis Atkins (4/4) Tony Martin (4/4), Lorin Clough (3/3), Simon Coleman (3/3), Ian Moss (3/3), Dennis Claydon (3/3), Terry Vallis (3/3) and Mike Jones (3/3) were all undefeated on the day. Stephen Coleman took the highest break award with 10,450. In the Ladies Individuals competition we ended with eight players, including two from Northampton - the first for a very long time. Group A, consisting of Mary Leeming, Jenny Parsons, Myra Hawkins and Janet Burns was very close with Myra just squeaking into the final by a small 40 to Mary, both of them having won two games. In the opening game in Group B Carla Jolley of Reading beat Pauline Withey by 20 and this set the scene of the afternoon, with Carla remaining undefeated to go through to the Final. Pauline was second, Mel Standbridge third and Sophie Shambrook of Northants fourth. In the Final, Carla Jolley had the break in the first game and beat Myra Hawkins by 5040 to 790. In the second they were neck and neck for a long time until Myra saw it was unwinnable at 2610-2240 to Carla, and conceded gracefully. Well done to Carla, her first title in the ladies game. She also took the ladies high break award with 5470. Only 3 entries in the Ray Sturgess U30 championship but all high quality players in Lewis Stratford of Oxford, Kyle Ingram of Wycombe and Stephen Coleman of Northants. They played a round-robin and the table looked like this; | | | | |
---|
Final Table | P | W | L | Aggregate | Stephen Coleman | 4 | 4 | 0 | 43980 | Kyle Ingram | 4 | 2 | 2 | 24950 | Lewis Stratford | 4 | 0 | 4 | 5400 |
So Stephen Coleman is the 2017 champion and also took the high break award with 11,070 An excellent day and many thanks to Jenny Parsons, Dave Tooke, Dave Barnes and Terry Alder for helping, to Dave Barnes for selling so many raffle tickets, to the Didcot Con Club staff and catering people and of course to Mark Trafford, the Oxon BBA, Dave Alder and the AEBBA for supplying the tables. Many thanks to everyone else who helped during the day and to all who contributed to the raffle and bought tickets, on which we depend so much for our funding throughout the year.
