Sorry Martin but I am unable to make the day now. A bit peeved, as it will be the first Surrey I'll have missed, whether as a player or mere spectator.
At least with the week's notice I hope you'll be able to fill the slot. Clive T

Congratulations to Paul Sainsbury who won the Surrey Open beating Gareth Lloyd in the final. Gareth was off early following a kick on the break but with Paul unable to get the balls back was able to build a lead of nearly 10k at the end of the first leg. Paul went off with over 14k to give him the win and the title. Paul had beaten Curt Driver in his semi-final and Matthew Knight in his quarter. Gareth had beaten Mark James in his semi-final and Jack Baden in his quarter-final. Other quarter-finalists were Matt Jones and Richard Corbould. Special mention of Jack who reached his first open quarter-final and in doing so twice beat his highest ever break!! In beating Nigel Senior in the last 16 he managed a table run-out bar the last couple of balls, well done Jack.
In the plate Colin Southouse beat Chris Tupper in a quality final. Colin had beaten Bryan Stevens in one semi-final and Tupps beat Barry Radford in the other.
Thanks to everyone involved in the running and organising of a very good day, with Dave and Caroline Jones excellent on the admin desk. The change of start times was well received, and the hard work of those behind the scenes is greatly appreciated.
Quarters - Curt Driver 15110 & 8960 (24070) beat Matt Jones 1990 & 0 (1990) Paul Sainsbury 14560 & 1060 (15620) beat Matthew Knight 2280 & 10340 (12620) Gareth Lloyd 12710 & 6430 (19140) beat Jack Baden 4660 & 110 (4770) Mark James 11900 & 9300 (21200) beat Richard Corbould 470 & 1490 (1960)
Semis - Paul 0 & 19010 (19010) beat Curt 17060 & 0 (17060) Gareth 6780 & 10950 (17730) beat Mark 8860 & 0 (8860)
Final Paul 460 & 14100 (14570) beat Gareth 10150 & 60 (10210)

Well done to Paul and thanks to all those who work tirelessly to ensure another great weekend in Surrey.
Tables were excellent and competition was run smoothly.
Well done to Mark Trafford on the high break 24k +
Well done to Colin on his plate win.
To Jack Baden on his first quarter final and his personal best breaks, a star of the future.
