Just to let you know at a meeting of the Suffolk Bar Billiards Association last night it was decided:-
The date of next years open will be Saturday 24th March, venue to be confirmed but hopefully the Masonic Hall
Our rules for our open will be amended with the following change. We will use the baulk lines rather than the end of the cloth. All other rules remain unchanged although we will rewrite part of them to make it clear that it is a foul shot and the player loses their break if they play the cue ball when any other ball is still in motion on the playing surface ie rolling around a hole.
There was also talk and enthusiasm for the suggestion of running a 4x4 team tournament later in the year. Inviting teams of four players to enter a four pin competition. Each match being made up of four single games and two doubles. These games would be played on narrow tables, depending on the interest this would probably have to take place over a weekend and any thought or suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.
I hope that what ever happens in the future that people will continue to support and enjoy our four pin competitions here in Suffolk
Dave

Is there even more of you coming up next year? It also means that with nearly a year still go the bay horse rooms are fully booked for the weekend, not sure if that means you enjoy our open or just the "bay horse piss up"

Entry forms are now available Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedPlease note if you are paying by bank transfer then rather than posting all your details on here please send me a PM with the names of all the players you have paid for and at least one contact address, one email address and if possible at least one contact phone number. I will start a new thread with a list of entries. Remember in this competition we will now be using the baulk lines and not the end of the green stuff and also the rules clearly state it is a foul shot if a player plays a shot while any ball is in motion on the table, ie is still rolling around the hole and hasn't dropped down Dave

Pauline Withey & Keith Sheard will be entering. I (Lin) will send the bank details in the next few days. Hope the back legs on the tables are screwed in well! (Thought I'd use these new ones)

Entries are going amazingly well and just to confirm a few things.
Our only rule change is that we will be using the baulk lines this year instead of the end of the cloth
The ball does not have to go over the line, it just has to obstruct, overhang the baulk line or the D when viewed from directly above. We know this could create problems with the "what if questions" and hope common sence will win. If the cue ball is played and for some reason it doesn't even pass the baulk line it is a foul shot and removed from the table and the player loses their break. If any ball is in play and then somehow manages to clearly go over the baulk line and then manages to return back over the baulk line, that ball should be removed from the table, any balls it has moved remain in their finishing position and the player loses their break, etc etc. We play for fun and realistically know that without having pages of rules we can not cover everything.
It IS A FOUL SHOT to play the cue ball while any other ball on the playing surface is still in motion and any player doing so loses their break
Copies of the rules will be available on the day
Our chosen charity for next year is Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) a quick Google will lead you to more info. As always we will be holding a raffle and collections to raise money and donations of raffle prizes will be gratefully appreciated
See you in March
Dave
Oh,,,, and by the way, next years open WILL be played on narrow tables

Just a quick reminder or two or three
Would players in groups 1-8 do their best to be at the venue by 10am to allow for time to check in and buy the beers
As far as I know parking in the car parks is still free but you need to get a ticket.
The only change this year is we are going to be using the baulk lines rather than the end of the cloth as baulk
Please also remember it is a foul shot to play a ball when any other ball on the table is still in motion, ie rolling around the hole and the player loses their break
We consider the same break shot to mean the white and red balls going down the same holes, it doesnt matter how they get there ie the red goes straight down 30 hole from one break shot and on the next it hits the cushion before going down the 30, its still the same shot!! The same applies after the gate is dropped so if the ball on the break spot goes down the same hole as the red did on the previous shot. Hope that make some sort of sence
See you all next weekend
Dave

There is a small car park on girling street just past the back of spoons, a large car park off north street, turn off immediately before spoons and then go straight over at the junction, rather than turning left to the white horse or right to the Masonic, there is also another car park at roys near the train station, as far as I am aware they are all free but you need to get a ticket from the machine, need to check but I think that gives you 3 free hours parking and then after midday on a Saturday its free so you can park from 9am Saturday through to Monday morning if you really wanted to. I will have a word with Gary at the white horse, im sure if people get stuck he would be ok with you parking in the pubs car park, but you would need to register your car with them straight away so you dont get a ticket and fine. I also think they do cooked breakfast there Saturday morning, not as cheap as spoons but far better

Must be going mad but looked twice now and still can’t see any times ? It doesn't say when the 2nd series start but if you allow for each round of games taking 20 min's then that series should start about 12.30. Obviously though you need to check in before then.

The white horse teams are both away tonight so you can always pop in for some more practice. Our B team are playing at Hadliegh Cock and we're at the Cornard brook, a couple of miles out of town. There is one match in town tonight that I know about, the North Street tavern (Chris Cass's team) are at home to jeremys team the Bay Horse A. If I dont see you tonight I'll catch up with all tomorrow
