An unexpected scoreline but have to say that the home team played well tonight. Game 1 I rode my luck a few times but touched on 11k to give Darren no chance. Game 2 Mike off on just under 2k, Grant got the balls back and touched on 9k and then added some more at the end. Game 3 Rob missed his first 50/20 split and then missed the ball off the side cushion, Gareth got the balls back and then touched on 10k before adding more at the end. Game 4 Geoff off on just over 5k but first to get them back and, although he lost that break, Colin then didn't have time to catch him. Game 5 Jamie opened with 2.5k, Henry got the break back but missed on 2k, Jamie made a good 4k plus break before H played the table out with a really good quick 10k break to take the win in the best game of the night. A few quirky facts for those that enjoy statistics and records.... The home team score of 60,650 was the 6th highest score in the history of the Watney Mann Cup, but still a long way short of the record held by the (old) Romans team of 89,420 in their match against Albion A in 2010. Gareth's score of 15,740 was the 5th highest home score against the break for a player in the Watney Mann Cup.... he also holds the record for the highest score (23,430 in 2010 in the highest team score above), the 4th highest score (17,810 in 2006) and the 14th highest (13,650 in 2013).... Grant and Henry both just missed out on joining the top 15 tonight. And one of the visitors also got their name on one of the leader boards.... Jamie's score of 6,920 in the last game was the 5th highest losing score by an away player with the break in the Watney Mann Cup. (Sadly, I hold the record for the highest losing away score with the break with 8,170 in 2016..... ) Enjoyable evening, nice spread of pizzas and filled rolls.

Well done to the C`s and good luck in the final, table played well but there was a right hand roll which caught most out, chances in every game for everyone but the C`s took theirs better. Thanks to Gina for a lovely spread of sandwiches, thanks to Matt for allowing us to swap the order of play with two and three being played in reverse order. Steve opened with 2k, added another 1k, before Matt got the break back to add 2k, Steve increased the lead with another 1k, Matt got them back making sure touching on 5k. Nigel off at 7.5k, Mal got them back and although never really settling battled to 6.6k before coming off, Nigel balls back and made sure. Rick opened with 4k, Tupps could not get them back, and Rick made sure. Michelle going well at 2.5k, ball behind the 20, hit the cue ball too well and it just plopped down the 20 no score, TJ balls back caught out by roll on split off at 1.5k. Chelle got them back and another 2k, TJ balls back and going well at over 4k, caught split all wrong and rimmed the 100 and pegged, Michelle made sure.

Hope my game wasn't that boring it sent everyone to sleep Yes it was very boring BUT I do remember the following:- Jean started strongly but pegged her opening break on a split shot. Pete balls straight back and going well but when getting to just under 4k a ball went awkward and played safe to keep his break. Jean was first to get them back and made an excellent 6k break, it gave Pete a squeak but he was very tight for time and couldn't claw back the deficit, a good win for Jean Was a good night and happy to be in the final against very strong opponents

First leg of the final played tonight on the Albion A Table.... Home | Team | Romans C | v | Albion C | Away | Team |
---|
Legs | Score | Player | v | Player | Score | Legs | | | | | | | | 1 | 10,350 | Dave Ingram * | v | Nigel Senior | 4,220 | 0 | 0 | 2,810 | Geoff Jukes | v | Michelle Baden * | 10,070 | 1 | 0 | 1,670 | Henry Brooks | v | Jean Brackenridge * | 9,810 | 1 | 1 | 9,310 | Gareth Lloyd * | v | Chris Tupper | 3,120 | 0 | 1 | 11,800 | Jim Millward | v | Matthew Knight | 3,520 | 0 | | | | | | | | 3 | 35,940 | Totals | v | Totals | 30,740 | 2 |
Game 1 - I opened with a pretty rough 5k but first to get them back and add another pretty rough 5k to take the leg, I managed to lose some more and Nigel finished off with a quick 4k. 1-0 Game 2 - Very good opening 6.8k break from Chelle and awkward leave in front of a peg, Geoff cleared the balls but nothing went in and Chelle made sure next visit leaving Geoff time to make one break with Chelle reaching 10k with the last ball in the 100 hole. 1-1 Game 3 - Superb 9,470 opener from Jean which she kept going really well when out of position to give H no chance. 1-2 Game 4 - Gareth off early, Tupps got the balls back but also came off and Gareth made no mistake with a solid 8k and touch. 2-2 Game 5 - Matthew opened with about 2k, Jim got the balls back and touched on 10k to take the win. 3-2 It was definitely ladies night for the visitors, the home team grateful (and slightly fortunate!) to take the win leaving the match nicely poised for the second leg next Wednesday, enjoyable evening in good company with a lovely spread of sarnies.

Watney Mann Final (2nd leg)
Albion C 3-2 Romans C (5-5 on aggregate, Romans C won the decider to give them a 6-5 win)
**Matt 2860 - 1860 Gareth Jean 3740 - 3060 Jim** Michelle 2020 - 7440 Dave** **Tupps 4950 - 1030 Henry Nigel 1820 - 3560 Grant**
Deciding leg Nigel 3110 - 4280 Jim
Congratulations to the Romans C on their win tonight and the very best of luck to them representing Sussex in the National Finals. Massive apologies to our visitors having to deal with a sub-standard table tonight, it certainly made things very tough. Well done to my awesome team on performing so well during the competition, a fallen white peg perhaps the difference between victory and defeat. Gutted for Nigel especially after the week he has had but it was just not meant to be. However, plenty of credit must go to Jim for his win in the decider.

Well done to the Romans C, may I say although we only got 9 entries it has been a great competition and was played in the right spirit, unlucky to the Albion C taking the Romans all the way
