Thanks Keith. Another one for you:
M.SODEN represented the Dolphin, Wallingford in the 1991 competition. (A very accomplished player judging by his scores.) MICK

Here's one to test Kent memories:
The 1991 National Team competition was won by "The Victorian" from Kent. Side consisted of Chic Martin, Francis Blake, Mick Lingham, I.Phipps and Dave Wicker.
Two questions: 1) What was first name of I.Phipps ? IAN 2) In which town was The Victorian located ? ROCHESTER
I believe that at the time, the Faversham and Canterbury leagues were still active.

Can now pin this one doen to the Medway (City) League: There is reference on their website to The Victorian being Div.One runners-up in 1989/90 to the Temple Farm Club.

Fine bunch of players there Clive, 'Phipps' I cannot remember (Curt might) but the rest were as good as you can get, Big Chic, Blakey, Lingo and Dave Wicker - top players, even if one I remember for knowing every angle on the rules . I believe it was in Victoria Street (Surprisingly) Rochester, opposite the club where we used to play inter-leagues. Victorian (ex City Arms) (if the link works, not so good now!

Thanks Chris, Knowing 'Rochester' is a great help. The only name familiar to me was Mick Lingham. I remember seeing him play in two Northants Open Finals, lost both but the prize money was fantastic. He had jet black curly hair and a jolly demeanour, I recall.
Looking back on the past winners of the National Team event, so many of those 'famous' venues no longer exist, which I find tragic.

Yes this prompted me to look back in my old filing cabinet which has lain untouched for years. I found local and Kent stuff back to the late sixties! (including The Victorians at 20 Victoria St.) all in a heap system needless to say, but who wants it now?? It would take months to scan and digitise it, but to what purpose?

Well, it has been said that we on this forum are custodians of the history of the game. We can't bring 'em back, but if we don't make some sort of effort to record what we know of old leagues then the information will be lost forever.
I've started threads along the theme "on the trial of the old ........league" and it is surprising what turns up. We've discovered stuff about Yorkshire for instance, the 4-Pin leagues, and some of the leagues out west (in Wilts, Somerset etc).
I for one would find it interesting to learn about the lost leagues in Kent, Hampshire and Berkshire. Also 'lost' counties Lincs, Leics and Herts. Just simple data such as which pubs were in the league and any local big names.
