A reminder for any proposals for AEBBA rule changes that, under the currently published rule book, proposals must be with the AEBBA secretary by Sunday 12th November.
No proposals for rule changes can be considered if not in by that date and included on the agenda

Dear All The attached PDF shows the proposals that were received on or before the 12th November by the AEBBA Secretary. Please note that in the second proposal there is nothing re penalties re AEBBA events and the failure to have support to set up, we cannot however fine ourselves, but I have asked Dave Alder to not offload any tables in future until help is there; that being the case the event will run very late. You do not have to be 'Atlas' there are many jobs such as taking the ball sets off the van and polishing them that just require time not strength ... The table prices are for 1 year only and will be reviewed for 2018 at the AGM. Other areas for discussion at the AGM must be the number of AEBBA events, combinations for 2018 of events? reduction of the number of events? If you want to have your say to agree or disagree with the proposals, or to suggest alternative solution focussed ideas, just turn up to the AGM which will be held at the Caversham Club, Reading. Have your say where it will count and decisions are made. Lastly, during the last two weeks I have thought about a number of scenarios, including the possibility of no AEBBA. The AEBBA is very vulnerable in terms of certain aspects that we actually have no plans for written down. My role itself (not me)is vulnerable as the Treasurer, who would have to look at assets and monies held in its account and name and how that would be distributed. Whilst no one wants to even think about such a scenario, I believe we should have a plan/s for the 'What if'I am happy to work with a small group of people representative of each affiliated county in drawing this up over 2018 ready as a proposal for the 2018 AGM. This task would be via email. Many thanks Chris Proposals 2017.pdf (40.15 KB)

Well done Chrissie, should make an interesting meeting.
On proposal 1) AEBBA already have an Assistant Secretary, Nigel Senior, unless the minutes of the previous several AEBBA A.G.M.'s are incorrect.
Four Pin tournaments will continue to be played to the East Anglian Open rules (2016 AGM minutes).
Fully agree that the disposal of assets should be in the constitution should AEBBA cease to exist or to a lesser state, no longer hire out tournament tables. The sale of van and tables needs to consider a clause in it to repay sponsors, some of whom donated large sums of money, to the purchase of the current van.

Hi Chris - Thanks
I clarified this with Nigel over the weekend. He said that Dave has two roles Secretary and Tournament Director. Nigel says his role is Assistant Tournament Director. This being the case the minutes are not correct previously.
Many thanks Chris x

I'm looking at proposal three and it makes mention of an under 30's team competition.
Would somebody mind clarifying if the introduction of one is part of the proposal or if there is already such a competition in place but I haven't been paying attention?

It's not an under 30's team competition, but one team of five under 30's players invited to participate in division 3 of the inter counties, but not getting promoted if they win. What is not clear is how the team would be selected and whom would do the selecting.

Re proposals 1 & 2 (I may need to split this thread up)
Nigel Senior has been proposed, seconded and voted in as Assistant Secretary (individually or en-bloc) every year since 2008 on every set of minutes published on here.
Nigel Senior has never declined that office as far as records show and is the AEBBA Assistant Secretary. He can of course resign that office at the A.G.M.
What terminology has crept in over the last few years is the term 'Tournament Director'. There is no such post in the constitution of AEBBA as far as I can see. What needs to happen at the A.G.M. in my view is that an amendment be put forward to the effect that AEBBA creates the office of 'Tournament Director' at the 2017 A.G.M. along with the association of roles mentioned in the proposals.
I hope this can be cut and dried before the A.G.M. as wasting time on semantics at the most crucial meeting of the year is far less important than reversing the traumatic decline of the past few years.

Talking of which, here is an updated set of the stats underlining this point. NationalStats.ods (30.24 KB) (click on tabs at foot of page to see in graph form)The general decline of the past few years is perhaps understandable, but this year's decline in all the 3-Pin Opens has been particularly alarming.

What is the fee for associate membership? Nottingham would consider joining the AEBBA.

There is no fee for associate membership, the annual fee for full membership is £20.
Quite honestly Associate Membership does not mean much, but that is your choice.
An application to join simply requires a vote at the A.G.M. The rules do not indicate that a proposal with a proposer and seconder are necessary, so it could be handled at the forthcoming A.G.M. even though proposals have closed, in my view.

We'll apply for associate membership for now, as I'd like to see if we have enough interested players to compete in AEBBA tournaments

Is there an approximate finish time?
Also I intend to come to the meeting, am I eligible to attend the selection meeting (whatever that entails!) or is that for the committee only?

Hi Phil, I have no definitive answer for you as to the finish time of the AGM but, based on previous meetings that I have attended, it usually takes between 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on how much there is to discuss so, worst case scenario would probably be a 4pm finish. With regards to the England Team Selection Meeting, that is for AEBBA Committee Members only so you would not be eligible to attend that.... but you could always put your name forward for the AEBBA Committee for next year as I am sure they would welcome some enthusistic younger members for that!

Thank you very much for clarifying Dave! Going on the committee woud certainly be something I'd consider. It would depend on the regularity of meetings. I shall turn up at the riff raff time then % Meetings???? LOL. Based on my experience on the committee a couple of years ago, there are.... errrr..... one meeting a year just before the AGM! Oh, there have been meetings during Bournemouth weekend as well a few times to discuss things that have cropped up but nearly everything else is done by email or telephone as that is much easier than trying to get everybody together at the same time during the rest of the year. So much of the work is done by just a small handful of people and communication between them is vital, personally I would like to see more communication going out from AEBBA to players and counties so I hope that we will get that next year as I feel that it will be a very challenging year for AEBBA to keep the national game going and, hopefully, even getting more players to take part in the competitions and I certainly feel that communication and leadership are vital so the more willing volunteers we can get to help with that the better.
