Hi Tommo and Josie
Thankyou both for your good luck wishes tonight. unfortunatly Mother Hall and I lost 2-1 after ahn argument about who had the break in the decidin game.
Mother Hall and i won the toss and put Ding and Mick Johnson in to break first, in which Ding Broke 1st. They won that leg.
I broke in the 2nd leg. which Mother Hall and i won.
Now down to the problem, the decider......... This has happened to Mum and myself for the second year running that the rules are NOT stated clearly enough.
Who Ever Breaks in Legs 1 or 2 does NOT have the opening break in the 3rd leg (the Decider)
I must admit Ding and Mickdid play the table very well and are worthy Winners But would they have Won if Mum was able to keep her opening break of 1500 before Ding went on the table When it was ment to be Micks Break ashe did NOT have it in the openers of legs 1 or 2.
All i ask is that, is there any chance of it being printed in bold or underlined at the end of each doubles competition??????

Who Ever Breaks in Legs 1 or 2 does NOT have the opening break in the 3rd leg (the Decider) As you know Kev, we don't play over 3 legs in Surrey. However, it is well known in pairs that you each take a turn in having the break. So the third leg (as I gather it's equal breaks) must be the 2 players who haven't had the break in the previous 2 games! Sorry yea lost - especially under such circumstances. :(

Sorry to hear of those circumstances, Reaper. Unfortunately you just have to grin and bear it, and look to go one better next year.
How the breaks go is so important on Finals Nights, when often you're on the only decent table you've played on all year !
We'll be rooting for you in your Mid Sussex Singles Final a week today. 8-)

It definatly was not the best table i have played on.. it was hard work, the cushions were throwing a long way, and the table was very very slow.
But still they played the table very well, and well done to them. we will be back for our trophy next year.

In the oxford comps the Women go first in both games which adds another twist to the games. This prevents it from becoming a game of singles between the best tw players like the best of 3 unspecified break can.

All very well Beefy, but in Redhill especially some of the women are on a par with men in their ability. This would give a huge advantage if one outfit had a top lady and the other outfit an 'incidental' lady.
I like the rule that whoever had the break in games 1 or 2 cannot play first in the final frame. If a lop-sided outfit is brave enough they can put the 'lesser' player on with the break first, holding something back in case in goes to the decider. ;)
Kev : any more details from last night, like who won the Singles, and who won the Masters ?

Thanks Ian, I know only too well what organising a Finals Night involves.
I figured that you would need some rest to catch up, so was trying to get the lowdown from the Reaper.
But once he's had a few he's about as useful as a chocolate teapot. ;)

Kev. I fully regret the situation that occured last night it was unfortunate. I know you proberbly didn't get a copy of the rules at the biggining of the season but rule 27 states
"27) All cup games are open to unlimited entries; opening rounds will be played on a set night determined by the competition secretary usually a Monday, except the Team Cup. The toss of a coin will decide the first choice of break to be taken in individual/double competitions. In Men’s Ladies & mixed doubles the player taking the first break in the first & second leg may not take the break in the deciding leg. Complete failure by either party to make contact will result in forfeiture of the match. "
However I have checked & that wording was not used on the competition draw sent out to those taking part, which now is only something that can be put right for next year I can only appologise on behalf of the committee. Ian.

A good spread of winners there, sounded like a good night. Nice to see Micky Fairs win a few pots, they've been long overdue for such a good player.
