08 May 2018 Roffey SSC's John Slee found his first visit to play in the Guernsey Open a pleasurable experience. A First-Round win over former Island champion Bob Chapple by 12000 - 4280 was followed by two good wins over Worthing's Tony Jenner 11810 -3110 and Brighton's Matt Knight 5600 - 2270. This propelled him into the Quarter-Final and £90 guaranteed prize money, however the 2016 World Champion Matt Jones of Bucks was a bridge too far and John succumbed 1020-12200. Matt went on to lose to current World Champ Mark Trafford who in turn was defeated by Guernsey's number one Trevor Gallienne for the title. – Clive T
A good week for John, as a few days following his return to the mainland he played on Billingshurst Finals Night and retained his Mens Singles title.
