WOW they are some brutal start times! There is pretty much no chance of me and Sid making a 10.30 start as we have a 50th anniversay party to go to the night before and sid will not be able to drive before at least 9.30am (his job depends on him driving, so cannot take a risk!)

If you want to make the games you'll have to sacrifice something, like a lot of people do. The start times seem to be an issue for at least one person every competition, isn't it just something everyone has to deal with at some point? WOW they are some brutal start times! Every year I try to accommodate start times for people who have to travel distances Unfortunately anyone who has done a format for an open knows that it’s sometimes impossible to change times when you have to keep the tables they play on the same etc.
I’ve looked and looked again at the format today to see if I can change anything but it’s impossible without completely writing a new format.
Having spent most of Saturday evening and Sunday writing the format I have not got the time to do a new one and contact people telling them their start times have changed. The programmes, draw sheets have already been printed and these would all have to be changed.
I apologise now but there really is nothing I can do about the times.
I also don’t have a crystal ball to know what people’s plans for Saturday night are or what people’s jobs are.
Again I’m sorry for the inconvenience but having spent a lot of today looking at how to accommodate people with the timings Ive just hit a brick wall

I don't mean to have a go about this as I know how difficult it can be to do schedules for opens. I do not know what your process is for doing a schedule but I know when I do one for the Oxford open, I write a new one each year and make sure people who travel are on later. What surprised me with this schedule is the amount of Sussex v Sussex players who are on at 12 where others who have nearly 2hr drives are on at 10.30. In response to the comment of there is always that risk, then I kind of agree but if I knew that it would happen, there would be a strong possibility of not entering if I know my day will start at 7 am and not get home until after 11pm if managing to get to the latter stages. Anyway, that's enough said about it, let's all enjoy the day as we usually do 😀 I'm just off to get some redbull 😉

Sorry to poach on this thread but as this is not hidden like the tipsters thread is I would like to remind those who don't log in much to do their selections for this leg of the tipsters competition. Those in green have already entered. (No need to comment further or do selections on this thread)

Good luck to all taking part in the Sussex Open today, some interesting games in the draw!!
Sorry that I won't be there, first time I have missed this competition since I started playing in the Opens, but I have a busy day of fishing ahead here in Tenerife! It's a tough life! LOL

Well done to Kevin Tunstall on winning the Sussex Open. Kevin defeated Steven Sheard in the final, Kevin went first and his score proved too much for Steven. In the semi-finals Kevin beat Paul Sainsbury after chasing down Paul's run out from the first leg. In the other semi-final Steve beat Dave Reeves, who performed extremely well to reach the semi-finals. It was good to see Steven perform so well on the day too but Kevin proved too strong in what was Kev's 100th National Final...wow He has now won 72, what a record.
In the Plate final Mark James doubled up from his Sussex Masters Plate win the day before. Mark beat Jack Baden, who played well all weekend. Jack went first and was flying on nearly 7k when he hit a split too thick and unfortunately it knocked the black peg over. Mark made a very good 10k break and then enough with his opening break to secure the win. Well done to both players on playing well over the weekend. Dick Cable and Trevor Tucker, a new face to some from West Sussex both performed with credit to reach the semi-finals.
Only ever present over 25 years Keith Sheard won the high break trophy with a brilliant break of over 20k Jean Brackenridge won the ladies high break trophy, making a 4k plus break
Talking of Jean, together with husband Alan, massive thanks to both of them working very hard to make the day run so smoothly. A great deal of hard work goes into running any Open so thanks a lot guys. Also to our generous sponsors, making good prize money this year.
There was also a presentation to Marion Skinner of a four night stay in Jersey, which was down to many of you who had kindly made generous donations. She was very emotional (unsurprisingly) when receiving this but hopefully she will have a great time. Well done to Michelle Baden on her great efforts to do something nice for Marion.
We had plenty of helpers setting up the tables led by Stuart Mepham so thanks to him and all the other people involved in setting up and taking down the tables, a great team effort with the Sussex Chairman Stuart Carruthers to the fore in both setting up and taking down. Thanks also, as always, to Dave Alder for safe delivery and collection. Final thanks to John Miller's mum who produced a wonderful buffet for us to enjoy.
Hopefully plenty of you will be back for the 26th Sussex Open next year and that Keith will maintain his ever present record

KT wins back to back Sussex Opens ! Well done also to Dave Reeves, a rare participant these days but a couple of tipsters were astute enough to have a punt on him. The Sheards of course, a 20k H.B. to father, and the son beaten finalist. A great showing from Guernsey's Bob Chapple, quarter-finalist. Special mentch for Ric Cunningham taking out two of the games superstars in earlier rounds. Good to spectate, and well done to all involved in the organisation. Excellent report from Silent by the way.

Thanks for those kind words Matthew. Not reading the programme beforehand (doh), I didn't realise it was my hundredth final. Very pleased to have won it anyway as the Sussex has always been my favourite on these shores, there is such a variety with both sets of tables. Thanks also to all the organisers for a very well run competition. Looking forward to next year's already. Hopefully I can make 101 before then though😛
