**Paul 8030 - 810 Bob - Paul went off with 6k, Bob couldn't claw back the deficit Mick 1030 - 14,000 Joe** - Joe on fire, although he tried to lose his 6k break, just flicking a ball near the 10 to keep it. He then got another rapid 5k in 4 mins **Trevor 2260 - 6350 Phil - took a while for the captain to settle down but once doing so a solid win Ian 1960 - 8210 Matt** - a couple of flukes, one to keep the break going and then another later on to get the balls back helping me to a flattering win **Mick/Trevor 5370 - 7840 Phil/Bob - a couple of good breaks from Mick got them about 4k in front before an excellent 7k and touch from Phil gave us the win Paul/Sean Venn 3450 - 5940 Matt/Joe** - very friendly leg, trying to show off but loads of pegs
Very enjoyable evening in great company. Thanks to the Bevy for a very good spread of food, the table was excellent thanks to those who took the time to get it in such condition
Good night at the BHCC with the Hassocks, plenty of banter some close games and all down to the last doubles.
Pete E opened with 900, Pete H got them back replied with 890 and first to get them back but lost 2.6 break. Pete E built 150 lead but black pegged and game over as no time left.
Rick opened with 2k and whatever Bob did could not get them back and Rick added more.
Dereck opened with just over 4k, TJ left one behind the 10, clipped peg going up, hit ball potted both giving Dereck the break back and he built 7k lead, TJ finished with two breaks.
Ian off at 2.5k, Barry could not get them back so Ian always in charge, 3-1 after the singles and scores 10810 Hassocks 12460 us.
Bob opened with 22.5k, Rick and Pete could not get them back so 3-2, us 13790 Hassocks 14300 so last doubles winner takes all.
Ian opened with 4.5k, Dereck did not get them back and left me one in front and one behind the 10, I misjudged the cushion and caught the back of the 100 hole, outrageous bit of luck ball went up the table hit the one in front of the 10 onto the one behind and all three went down for break back added 3k and touch, enough to take the match.
Marquis started off well with Rick playing a very good first leg to set them on the way, giving Bob no real chance. Then after Matt was of early Terry made a steady break touching and not leaving Matt enough time.
In opened with 3k + ii the third, and after a bit of time at the back of the table Phil got them back first and made sure.
Game 4 was a comedy of errors, with Joe off early , TJ losing his scores that he did get, Joe leaving balls in some strange place, Joe eventually getting 2k near the end to make sure, TJ gutted as he had every possible opportunity to take this one.
In the double Rick lost his opener and then Pete added 2.5k, and Marquis pair kept the lead until Joe got them back and played out the rest of the time after a great shot to get the break back form the ball directly behind the 10, Joe eventually put the last ball down the 100 to nick it.
Matt then opened with 8.9k to give Ian and Terry no chance.
A good night with some friendly banter on the whole, thanks to the club for supplying burgers and chips, and look forward to next weeks second leg, advantage to the County oak on the first leg, still all to play for at the Bevvy
Thanks to Graham for setting up a pretty good table. Hopefully, our opponents will turn up at the appointed venue the Hassocks rather than the Bevy, otherwise we will be waiting longer than we were last night
Joe never really settling and Terry unable to get the break back until late on and then making sure. 4-3
Rick off at 3.5k after putting one up behind, Phil got them back and drew levelish, Phil first to get them back but lost his break, Rick could not get them back and Phil did with the bar due to make sure 5 - 3
Matt off at 1.5k, Ian first to get them back and made 6k break which was enough 5 - 4
TJ off at 1.4k, Bob unable to get them back and with the run of the balls TJ built a lead, Bob did get them back but off early, 5 - 5
Joe off early, Pete got 1k and then game stayed at top of table and Pete and Terry stayed ahead 5 - 6 and Marquis up about 6k on aggregate.
Ian opened with 4.5k and touch, Matt got them back straight away and was going well but having to push the time, off at 2k+, and then Phil got it back to take the leg but Marquis after the match drawn 6 - 6 win on aggregate.
Thanks to Matt for keeping this fun competition going again this summer and hope we will do it again next summer, thanks to those who took part and hope all enjoyed it, would be good to get 8 next year. Something different for the summer and played in the right spirit. Thank you to my team and well done.
