Dun Horse has now re-opened, went there earlier this PM. Top playing well as ever, spent £3 on some useful practice for team plate tomorrow. New people seem enthusiastic, hope things work out OK.

Just been informed that our table at the Windmill Gossops Green has been moved "to the other side of the bar".
The reason given that the position where it was installed breached safety regulations as it obstructed an emergency exit from the bar.
Margo and I will be going up this lunchtime to see how the land lies !
We will be looking at suitability of space for continuance of league matches, checking that the legs are still robust, and I will be taking a spirit level with me.
At the very least work will have to be done some time to rig up lighting and scoreboard in the new position.

The reason given that the position where it was installed breached safety regulations as it obstructed an emergency exit from the bar. Margo and I will be going up this lunchtime to see how the land lies ! ....and we are happy to report that the table is now on the stage, in exactly the position as it was when there was bar billiards before at the Windmill. Which was where it was supposed to in the first place, before the leaky roof and fouled electrics foiled the plan. There is plenty of space to move around in, and comfortable seating behind the players. Bev (former landlady who has returned to Staff) assures us that she personally supervised the move and the Pool trolley was employed. As said before, table lighting needs to be rigged up, and scoreboard moved - when Johnny Haigh gets a moment ! I spent an hour trying to level it, and was almost happy with the results, apart from the break being difficult with the ball cutting inside (cf Northants !). But then when we put the lid on the table had to be moved forward for it to shut, so that's probably put it out and I will have to do it all over again. So bear with........... When everthing's finished, expecting a karma rating of 10/10.

As a table with one of the highest CaT Scan ratings ever recorded hope the table will be back playing to the usual high standard for next season

Well, Stu, we're still trying to work out how we missed out on 'best table' (persons of dubious parentage! ) But judging by the results when we rolled some balls up at lunchtime I wouldn't even claim it at the moment to be the best Windmill table in the league ! Looks like tommo is facing about six hours of 'Sparky time' before it's restored to anything like its former glory.......

Looks like tommo is facing about six hours of 'Sparky time' before it's restored to anything like its former glory....... After 2.5 hours of TLC it now plays gorgeous once again. Lighting and scoreboard still to be installed, but Tuesday team should find conditions adequate if they turn up for a practice night.

Update on the position........... Table light in place and scoreboard affixed to wall (thanks Johnny H) Lights still working on an extension lead for the present until the official electrician returns from abroad. Table levelled once more by yours truly and landlord assures us that table will stay in position from now on, any bands from now on will set up and perform from the corner we have just vacated ! First practice evening for the Wednesday team was tonight and we were very comfortable indeed and feel that away teams will appreciate the difference too. Our new trainee Alice is also coming on a bundle.

I received a tip a couple of months ago that there was a table in Ashington Social Club (behind the Red Lion on what used to be the main Worthing Road) This used to be a prime venue in both the Billingshurst and Horsham Leagues. I have now stumbled across some supporting evidence: www.thepicta.com/tag/barbilliards/J0HWXJ1swAAAF0HWMuwwwAAAFtgBAA%253D%253DASHINGTON VILLAGE CLUB (NON-LEAGUE), MILL LANE, ASHINGTON, W.SUSSEX RH20 3BX

Knew it was a while back but not that many years, in the days when we used to travel round the county and practice other tables.

.......the days when you entered the pub for a game, and had to wait your turn by adding to the line of coins on the side of the table.

Very true I remember many a Friday waiting your turn at the Empire Club, table in those days near the bar area, and what great laughs we had on the Friday.

There is now a table in The Inn On The Green, Ockley
Would be nice if a few local people could pop in for a game or two as they are really keen

Margo and I were on our way to Leith Hill and paid a lunchtime visit to the Inn On The Green.....
Charming pub, very spacious, friendly welcome, table in a good position.
Played a couple of games, table has a nice pace to it and is very straight, a pleasure to play on.
Lauren would like a team and already has one friendly arranged for 4th June. I would also like to bring a team over from Crawley for a pre-season friendly. I left contact details for both the Horsham and Billingshurst leagues.
I do hope that things take off here......give it a try, folks you'll like it !

The Stout House now has a table back in the pub. Been told it is a privately owned brought by the owners, but don't know if this is true.

Table gone from the Windmill, Littleworth according to Tony Franks: the small space it took up in the corner is now occupied by dining tables.

Horsham League in a state of flux at the moment: Long established venues Windmill (Lit) and Southwater Cricket Club lost from last season. Word on the street though is that a further Roffey team might be in the offing: either the Star or the Norfolk. Dog & Duck on the Dorking Road would like to host a team but would first need to acquire a table !

No table any more at Ashington SC. Sadly as it would have made a good replacement venue for Southwater teams. Table went a few years ago according to the Steward (ess).

Following a tip-off from a reliable source, my investigations have revealed that there is now a table in the Norfolk Arms:
Quote (posted on Facebook on 8th September) ............. Looks perfectly set up for league play and I'm guessing that "Chocie Mepham" is behind the venture.

You beat me to it Tommo. Yes some good news for once as The Norfolk Arms make a welcome return to Horsham League, with a League team with Twiggy as captain. Not so sure about your guessing ability though

The bar billiards revival in Horsham pubs continues ............ This one has also come to my attention: Quoting Facebook: Another ex-Tarratt SAMS, a better prospect for a 'proper' game than the Supreme table at sister pub the Stout House. tommo

Not so sure about your guessing ability though Turns out you're right, Ian ! Margo and I tried out both venues tonight as at a loose end (Redhill league match postponed). Had a couple of games in each and received a friendly welcome both times.
Both tables are Tarratt rentals apparently as a Pool table is also maintained. Both a £2 coin.
Norfolk - table nicely set up, break and split easy but 2 down sides: the left hand cushion throws down alarmingly, and you keep tripping over the darts oche.
Star - bar is a sort of games room reminiscent of the Golden Eagle, H/Heath; more room to spread out than in the Norfolk. Again, the table is good though slower than the Norfolk and annoyingly the cue ball keeps rolling backwards off the D.
A very pleasant evening was capped off with pineapple fritters from the chinky opposite the Star.

I am pleased to report that there is now a table in the Dog & Duck at Warnham. The pub are well known locally for great home cooked food (I can vouch for their baked tatties) and for pricing almost all their drinks @ £4. Apparently there are regulars at the pub who have been asking for a table, so maybe the pub are prospects for a new Horsham or Billingshurst team. Huge thanks to tommo, who gave me the heads up that the pub were interested in having a table.
