Thanks for the update Darren. Looking forward to seeing the fixtures on the G.B.B.A. website when all the calculations are finished. What is the date for the team knockouts ? We hope it does not coincide with a spring tide as the table at The Mariners is almost below sea level. Must get some practice in on that table. Good to see it included in the draw.

The four teams strong Guernsey league kicked off with a few surprises. The newly refurbished Fontaine table proved to be a purple haze to some and not to others. Layabouts are delighted to welcome Ian Champion into the team, whilst Giants have secured the services of Roy Le Page.
23rd October 2018 - Giants 3 Layabouts 2
Tom Oliver 1120 Norman Wilkinson 2780 Both players struggled to put any meaningful breaks together until the final minutes when I got the pace of the table right to sneak a winning break in.
Roy Le Page 4550 Ian Champion 1430 Both players making their debuts for their new teams it was Roy who impressed the most, Champ not his usual self seemingly saving himself for next match against Trevor.
Luke Oliver 5110 Ben Wilding 3790 Ben started off well and with confidence to put in an opening break of over 3K however he wished he would have stayed on longer to score more as Luke quickly got the break back and came back with a solid reply.
Terry Kenny 10840 Mat Ogier 50 One early mishap by Mat with a ball that whipped out of a pocket was punished with a 10500 reply by an in-form Terry who will be hard to defeat on any table this season given the form he showed tonight.
Bob Le Moignan 1450 Terry Girard 1950 Brought over from French France at great expense Supersub Monsieur Girard kept his nose in front enough to give us a much needed second point with ease.
Hot Dogs to round the evening off courtesy of Jers and Jackie.

30th October 2018 Layabouts 1 Baulkliners 4 Played at Ex Service Club.
Champions Baulkliners were looking for their first team win and Trevor was looking to set the bar high with a highest of season score as usually happens when he breaks on this table.
Norman Wilkinson 1050 Rodney Smith 4100 Rodney played his usual slow and consistent way keeping small breaks and I failed to get the break back until the bar dropped. Proving as usual ''You can beat a good player, but you cant beat a lucky player''.
Ben Wilding 0 (BP) Pete Sanders 1600 A very low scoring affair with both players struggling to produce form. Ben went for the 200 at the end despite not having any chance of a win.
Mat Ogier 6670 Andrew Rundle 5030 The match of the night. Andy 'touched' after last weeks loss of break, hoping that would give him the advantage. Mat was having none of it though and fought back with a magnificent and deserved winning break and highest score of the night.
Paul Dyer 2810 Barry Osborne 6330 Barry let Didi back on the table early to break and go in front in his first league game of the season. But Barry got a second chance and got back on the break to score an impressive 6,330 total.
Ian Champion 1200 Trevor Gallienne 5520 Not the usual massive 10K + break from Trevor which let Champ back in with a chance. Still carrying an injury Champ got the break back but also failed to put the game safe. What followed was an example of both players acting like lumberjacks attempting to knock the black peg over, Champ being the most successful despite Trevor's memorable 50 m.p.h. three cushion shot that went directly down the 200.

Great start to the season for last seasoned bottom placed team Breakaways
after securing a 3-2 victory over the league champions they faced the Giants at Home (Rangers FC) and with recently defected Island Player Roy Le Page, now at the Giants there was some added pressure for both teams.
Geoff Ogier 1860 Bob Le Mignan 200
Geoff set the breakaways off with a good start. Bob Missed early which allowed Geoff to set the early pace. From then on the game was over as Bob was unable to secure any decent scores. Bob did black near the end however this had no bearing on the outcome.
Darren Ogier 2590 Roy le Page 1540
This was always going to be a big game as the 2 former team mates went head to head. Roy missed a thin red on the left hand 50, this allowed me an early go with no score to catch. I got the break back with ease, then the trouble began. The pressure was too high and I played some of the worst shots of my life. I played one break shot so hard the red span out the 50 and into the 100, the white also span out the right hand 50 into the left hand 50. ( bit of luck never hurt anyone). I soon realised I had to play a different game and played out the win with some very technical stick shots which Roy was unable to score from.
Now 2-0 up could we make it 3-0 and with another Ogier to go next.
Leon Ogier 2690 Luke Oliver 2130
This is not a game we were expecting to win, Leon is still pretty new to the game and Luke has been a steady a reliable player in the league for some years now. Luke as predicted set off well and set an early score. After both players had a few shots Luke soon had the break again. However after scoring around 2500 he knocked over the right hand white peg and gave Leon the break back. Leon showed how much he has improved in such a short time and scored just under 2000 points. Panic mode then set in for Luke, as he chased to get the break back. He did come the end but it was too late and Leon clung on for the victory.
Steve Carre 470 Tom Oliver 5540
Unfortunately Steve wasn't able to follow up on his win from week 1 and take a 4-0 lead for the breakaways. It was a shame that Steve was running late on the night and not able to get any practice before the match. Although Tom managed a 2k break Steve Managed to get the break back straight away but left the 2 balls short and Tom got straight back on and played the table out with just over 3k and get one back for the Giants.
Matt Wilcox 4070 Terry Kenny 1180
Matt has been unlucky on a few occasions v Kane, but this was going to be a tough match against the break. However Terry had less than 1k on his break. Matt got to the table and put in a couple of small breaks to edge in front. Both players did not play their best Billiards until Matt Managed a nervous 2k until the bar dropped and stuck to take the win.
Great start of the season, it took us 5 weeks to score the same amount of points last season. Fingers crossed the luck stays with us.

Breakaways slipped to second with a 4-1 defeat to Layabouts Some what disappointingly an away player chose to adjust the levels on our table at the rangers club last night. As no one was around he felt that he could improve the table. This is somewhat disappointing when I took the time during my lunch hr to practice. I wonder if this happens anywhere else? Game 1 Matt Wilcox 940 Matt Ogier 4620 Matt Ogier dominated this game from start to finish. After a poor start Oggy is showing some good form and maybe go far in this year world championships. Leon Ogier 1460 Ben Wilding 5420 Not really a fair reflection on the as Leon is probably the most improved player over the past 3 seasons. There was not much between the 2 at the mid point and Leon managed to get the break back. However left the break short allowing Ben another chance to move ahead. With the game closing out Ben soon had the break back to take the Layabouts 2-0 up. Darren Ogier 2810 Ian Champion 2320 If anyone knows us, you will know as good mates, these games mean more than a point. In all honesty Ian is a far better player than myself, but please don't let him know I told you that. Champs has really struggled for any sort of form this year, which either means he will have a blinder and be the next Guernsey man to become world Champion or he will be even more drunk than ever. ( I would suggest it will be the later). Back to the game, Champ had an awful start and I was soon onto the table. After some lucky shots and some good play I managed to get the break back. I was pretty happy with the 2700 break considering the table rolled left ( remember someone had levelled the table for us ?) Ian managed to get the break back a couple of times but was not able to sustain any decent breaks. Inbetween this I had the chance to put the game to bed before I pegged during a break. As the bar dropped Ian was 510 behind and 6 balls left, when he put the first down the 100, the second down the 200 with a 10. With 3 balls all in the right hand corner Ian had to keep at least one ball alive. However in his attempt he fouled and I hung on for the victory. Steve Carre 1650 Norman Wilkinson 2070 This was a close game throughout, Norman never really got going on the table and was not able to stretch away from his opening break. Steve still new to the game was not quite able to consistently score enough around the back of the table to really threaten Norman, however Norman was and relieved to secure the victory for the Lauyabouts. Gary Naftel 1770 Paul Dyer 2980 Battle of the gunners. I did my best to help things as captain. We all know Mr Dyer likes the odd Strongbow, so he goes last. Problem is as Gary is now not playing regularly due to the recent farce of the RAF club, he chose that he would get in some drinking practice before he departs for the Darkside of Jersey. Both players had plenty of chances to win this game with both players having the break on at least 4 occasions each. Amazingly the away player criticised the levelness of the table. Maybe if he hadn't adjusted it it would of been ok.

20th November 2018 - Layabouts 3 v Giants 2 (Part 2) played at Ex Service Club. Looking to avenge their defeat in the first game of the season, Layabouts held their nerve to record an unexpected 3-2 win against the break.
Ian Champion 7180 Bob Le Moignan 1540 Bob took an early deserved lead and Champ was very slow to get any real scores on the board. However he rallied about half way through to put in a match winning break of 6600 to help secure his first league win of this season.
Norman Wilkinson 5630 Luke Oliver 2730 Luke is always a worthy and tough opponent home or away and his opening break put me under pressure. I had to keep on the table and put in a couple of bigger breaks to keep my nose in front, knowing if I had missed he would have taken advantage.
Ben Wilding 1330 Terry Kenny 980 Both players played way under par, with some strange shots never seen before. To be honest a draw would have been a fairer result. Lucky win for us.
Mat Ogier 3870 Roy Le Page 5060 This game could have gone either way with Mat having some bad luck including a ball which rolled off the spot. Roy, after some early misses, regained his composure to put in a well deserved win.
Paul Dyer 4510 Tom Oliver 4770 The last and the most competitive match of the night. Tom kicked off with a measured 3500 break, but would it be enough ? Didi back to his old self quickly got the break back and chased down Toms score down with a quick 4,510 reply before unfortunately letting Tom on just before the bar dropped. Tom took his chance and cleared the remaining balls to secure a narrow win.

This weeks busy program of Guernsey league matches sees second placed Layabouts visiting Champions and current league leaders Baulkliners.
After just 4 games, the leaders have opened up a five point lead over their closet rivals. Trevor Gallienne and Pete Sanders each with 4 wins out of 4. The Townies will have to be on top form and make use of their opening breaks to stop the champions running away with the league top spot once again. Biggest decision of the night as we travel deep into enemy territory - Drive past the cemetery or turn right at the witches crossroads ? Garlic and crucifix at the ready !

Sorry for the delay
It was a bad week for the Breakaways losing 5-0 at home to the Baulkliners
Steve Carre Lost to Pete Sanders 860 to 3580
Pete didn't make the best of starts, however Steve was not having a great week. This allowed Pete a few visits to the table and eek out the win
Geoff Ogier lost to Rod Smith 1070 to 1160
Both former Island Champions would want to forget this game in a hurry as neither player reached the highs of yester year.
Matt Wilcox lost to Trevor Gallienne 1070 11,020
Matt lost this game before he started as Trevor broke off with a confident 8000 exactly before touching up.
Darren Ogier lost to Barry Osbourne 830 - 5790
Barry knocked in a steady 5500 off the break and put me under immediate pressure with only 5 mins left to play, Unable to settle on the table the game whittled away
Leon Ogier Lost Andy Rundle 1070 to 9460
Andy had and awful start missing with only 400 on his break. Leon couldn't get the break back which allowed Andy back in and after a steady 6000 break too control of the game

27th November 2018 - Baulkliners 2 Layabouts 3 Played at West Legion Club Layabouts inflict second defeat of the season against the current champions and league leaders Baulkliners.
Pete Sanders 4350 Mat Ogier 4890 It looked like Pete's undefeated run would continue when Mat missed a pot on 2500 during his opening break. Pete got the break back and looked favourite, only for him to repay the compliment. Mat settled down to edge ahead and sneak the vital opening frame.
Rodney Smith 5920 Ben Wilding 2330 Veteran 'Rodders' had more table time than he expected in this one, Ben struggling with the pace of the table let Rod take control to record his highest score of the season to date.
Barry Osborne 2560 Norman Wilkinson 7740 Both players on 3 wins out of 4 this season and well matched, something had to give. Fuelled by orange juice for a change I opened up with a 5,200 score which ended when I left both balls up on the break. Barry had time and is capable of catching that target. But did not flow as he normally can, leaving me with another chance of a break towards the end.
Andrew Rundle 1310 Ian Champion 9570 This was always going to be a good battle with both players capable of high breaks on this table. Champ thought he had blown it when he broke down during his break, early on. Andy failed to take his chances and let Champ back on to record his second win of the season and the highest score of the night. 3-1 to the visitors and looking good with Didi (last as usual) breaking against Trevor.
Paul Dyer 4490 Trevor Gallienne 8260 Didi missed a pot with just over 600 on the board during his opening break. Trevor was not going to turn down this early invitation to get back on his home table, getting the break back and on reaching over 8K a confident touch, knowing the game was won with little time left. Didi made his score look a little more respectable, but was never going to catch that target, regretting his poor opening effort.

Breakaways pull in 2 reserves and walk away with a credible 3-2 win against the Giants. How it was close to a 5-0.
Tom Oliver 500 lost to Gary Naftel 6540
It was good to see Gary still has the hunger to turn out and play some good Billiards while his old team take a break from the league. Gary, started off well and knew he had to put a decent score in, as Tom is always dangerous on his home table. Putting in a steady 6k break and with that the game was in the bag. Tom Was unable to put together and scores and the Breakaways were up 0-1
Roy Le Page 2650 beat Geoff Ogier 2210
Roy got lucky in this one as Geoff dropped his opening break of 4.5k when unable to make contact with a ball behind the 30 pocket. Roy then got the break back but only managed 1800. Geoff managed to put in another 2k break but when Roy managed to play the table out as the bar dropped winning by a small Margin.
Terry Kenny 300 lost to Myself 2090
I am really struggling with Nerves this season and the break is causing some really difficulties, however my play around the table has been exemplary. with only a 500 break I thought the writing was on the wall, however Terry is also not having a great season and although he tried he was unable to get the break back until the end. This allowed me to build up a small score to take the victory.
Luke Oliver 2540 beat Matt Wilcox 2330
These 2 seem to always have a tight game and so proved again. Neither player were able to score enough to pull away. It came down to the final few moments for the game to come alive. With both players pushing for the victory it came down to the last ball. Matt was first up but just missed the 200 for victory. Luke managed to find the 100 and set the final game up as the decider.
Bob Le Moignan 970 lost to Paul Le Gallez 1130
This was tight affair throughout, with Paul making his first appearance of the year. He didn't quite hit the heights that he can be accustomed too. As Paul struggled as chased that elusive score. Bob was his normal steady self. what ever he score he kept. However on the other hand Paul would push to get the break back and would end up pegging on numerous occasions, however did enough to take a 3-2 victory for the Breakaways.

Guernsey Pairs. Ian Champion and Norman Wilkinson beat Leon Ogier and Steve Carre at West Legion 3-1
Champ proves that 'the West is best' by smashing it with a massive 16,860 break and clearance. Already 1-0 up after the first leg of four, all the opposition could do is look on and admire a top player boss it on this high scoring table, in the second game. This could be the highest score of the season in Guernsey, however pairs, singles and knockout matches do not count towards the highest score of the season trophy - only league matches. So you are just going to have to do it all over again big fella ! No pressure.

Guernsey Pairs Darren Ogier and Matt Wilcox beat Terry Kenny and Roy Le Page
Matt and I Managed to pull this off with the last ball of the match to win by 90 points.
All 4 games went against the break on the Ex service table which wasn't playing very well.
Game 1 M&D 1010 T&R 7640 Matt Wilcox broke down with only 400 points, This allowed Roy to take advantage and put in a solid few thousand. With myself and Matt unsettled T&R managed to set off with a good victory against the break and with good aggregate.
Game 2
M&D 3610 T&R 2310
Roy now broke down early, Matt and I then looked to get 1 game back, The game was a bit nip and tuck until the final minutes when I managed a 1600 break to take us over the line.
Game 3
M&D 1110 T&R 1130
After putting in a 2k break I missed a ball between the 100 and 10. Roy then put in a 2k break and the writing was on the wall for Matt and I. However during the Game Roy then hit the black peg and kept the game pretty even. It came down to the last few ball. Roy managed to clear the remaining balls, and it left the last ball for victory. after some deliberation Roy chose to go for the victory and sank the white in the 200.
Game 4
D&M 5860 T&R 410
Terry had the opening break on this one, knowing we needed a victory margin of 5350. Terry set about to score what he could and keep us off the table. Unfortunately for them Terry pegged with about 2500. It also presented us with the break straight back. Luckily for me I found some form at the right time and patiently put in a 5400 break. This put us slightly ahead but the game was now in the balance. After some tense play we were now slightly behind in aggregate, then the bar dropped, I managed to clear all the balls except 2. Now 100 points behind, I managed to keep my score but left balls up.
Roy then attempted to drop both balls, but left them both up. Matts turn, but in his attempt to keep up one ball, he pegged as one of the ball dropped in the 30. Terry turn to try and seal the victory, going for the 100 his missed low. Leaving me to finish with the 200 for victory which luckily dropped clean.

15th January 2019 - Layabouts 3 Breakaways 2 - played at Ex Service Club.
Ian Champion 5130 Geoff Ogier 430 The build up to this game was like an episode of casualty with photographs of x-rays and talk of operations between these two players. Geoff suffering the most could not get going and Champ took a while to recover to make the win look respectable.
Mat Ogier 3350 Darren Ogier 6700 Darren's opening break of 6200 left Mat with little time to catch up although some quick fire breaks narrowed the difference.
Norman Wilkinson 4110 Leon Ogier 2380 If Leon had kept what he lost in scores it would have been a close call as I failed to capitalise fully on his poor opening break.
Paul Dyer 5930 Steve Carre 640 Confusion reigned when our anchor man Didi was not expecting to play next. However he stepped up to put in a good performance and seal the win. The only match not to feature one of the Ogier dynasty of players.
Ben Wilding 0 Matt Wilcox 2750 These two looked evenly matched at first before Matt put some sort of lead together. Ben not having the rub of the green this week. Went for 200 at the end even though he was too far behind to secure the point.

Giants 4 Layabouts 1 Played at La Fontaine 29/01/19.
Tom Oliver 5190 Ian Champion 4460 On form Tom set the ball rolling for the home team with a well timed reply to Ian's opening break. Champ started off confidently enough, but broke down after 7 minutes at the table. Tom stepped up and after clearing the balls played it out with a 5190 break.
Roy Le Page 4760 Ben Wilding 1830 Roy kept the momentum going for the home team, making the most of his time at the table and deservedly carved out a points advantage which was rewarded with the win.
Luke Oliver 8290 Phil Keutzer 290 Supersub Phil was not so super this evening, having very little table time before the match and had not played since the knockout last season. Not taking anything away from Luke who still had to perform, which he did putting together some useful breaks and a very respectable 8290 total.
Terry Kenny 7150 Norman Wilkinson 3930 Terry was due a win and just my luck it was tonight ! Not making full use of my opening break, Kane went ahead on points and it stayed that way in the highest scoring match of the evening.
Bob Le Moignan 850 Mat Ogier 8540 Oggy was on to save the whitewash and duly obliged, putting in the highest score of the evening with a confident 8540.
The table played superbly this evening with no complaints. A new spot and a decent level before the match worked wonders for the home team. Looking back to the first match this season between the same two teams, a total of 33,070 points were scored. Tonight's total of 45,290 proved what players can produce on a well maintained table. I can not see Giants settling on fourth place in this sort of form.
Word on the street is that Baulkiners also won 4-1, so all bets are off for who is going to win the league this season.
