be brave, two reds are best.
break shot = both reds both reds worth double the white 5 whites and two reds on the table if 7 balls. add a white for the 8th ball
it is just a different game. its night and day. waiting for the single red to fall changes the whole tone of the game. its slow, you have to be patient. patient in 2018? the worst advert for the game is the delay in waiting for the single red to come back.
when the gate drops, if a red ball is in the tray it does NOT get used until it is the last ball left in the game. it cannot be used to make a pair out of the last two balls. if there is one ball on the table - that finishes as normal THEN the single red is brought up and that also finishes the usual way.
the difference? while that red sits in that tray, there are 400 points available. so if there's only a couple of hundred in it, the game is NOT OVER TILL IT'S OVER (the last ball).
we have a plethora of reds available through snooker. they have 15 on the table.

...I have a very slow Sams type table Curt and i use the two reds under sufference because it is s-o-o-o slow. The Jelks tables take that pain away with their ski drops but instead i have to watch the balls go round-and round - and round.........
I'd like to put ski drops under the pockets... that would be good.
actually, the red is a pink! on my own table you use a second red (a pink valued as a red) while one is coming back but, when the red is stuck on the table and you're out of balls, the pink comes up as a 7th white so that there aren't two 'reds' on the table at once for the forthcoming shot. after this first shot (value of a white) with it called 'white', it sits as a red for the next shot. that way nobody has to recall what it is, it is a red after that first shot if it is still up.
it works but resistance is big, whilst friends who play 'get it', explained here it is terrible! these have been my home rules for two years, "one red at a time unless out of whites so bring the second red up". you can end up with the pink on the table as the 'red' and a few shots go by with the whites NOT going down and all that is left is the red itself. on this occasion it would be a folly to call it anything but a straight second red = what it is.
thus two reds..... is so simple anyone could get it. I guess if you can't explain easily a change then it isn't a good change. but two reds is simple!

How about changing the rule so you don't have to use the red? Wouldn't that be easier to implement?
