Well done to Dave Lillie! you really earned that one the proper way with your second leg at one point reading 1,500 to 70 after an equal first leg. Maybe Beer really is the breakfast of champions! we also know Dave where to find you when the going gets tough.....well Jeremy does anyway!
I'd like to commiserate with Curt, two finals but at least you get there Curt and weren't far off! The difference between Curt and James Baker in the Semis came down to the reverse 100s. Curt did about 10 that found the centre of the hole and James did about 2 that found the pin! there alone is your 1,000 difference.
thumbs up to Nigel Senior for turning things around this year, it proves that what with Phil Osborne's highest total in the group stage, the quality of the 3-pinners will STILL come through even though slightly stymed(sp?).
Great tournament again and well done to everyone at Sudbury for a great show, you excelled lads and lasses! Top marks to the caterers, i thought the food was tops! The Golden Hen was spot on too.
the tables were a leap in quality this year, there's still a bit to do but I'm sure you'll tweak it! I can't fathom why the scores seemed to be down this year? markedly so i thought yet there didn't seem an obvious reason.
I also want to congratulate Bob Osborne because he didn't just win the plate, he did a proper job of it. a worthy winner!
well done to the staff and team running it.

Thanks to Sudbury for a great weekend, Well done Dave!! I will point out that he was in training and not the Bay Horse like the rest of us on Friday for about eight hours! Dave went to his room to watch the footie for a few minutes and fell asleep, last we saw of him, Killer was great fun and the Dark Titties (Times) a great pint, great company from Sudbury, Sussex, Eastbourne, Pompey et al. An awful lot of work has gone into setting up this unique open and well done to Sudbury for it, especially to Jeremy for putting together the stock of tables without which much of the character would have been lost. Some tables have been refurbished, but I still had trouble setting up a few which had slate problems. We also had clock problems on the Friday but managed to get around them. However they all had character and none were unplayable, just different as their refurbishment is an ongoing process. Dave had redone the lights this year and thanks to Chris, Steve and the admin team. Where else in an open but Suffolk would I be standing watching a hairy male player playing, dressed in a low cut red dress and fishnets? Bar billiards as it should be, friendly, frequent and regular visits to the table and any game could have been won by either player. Only disappointment for me on the Saturday was the lack of real ale, saved me a fortune though but meant I had to pop down the road to the Tavern for several pints of London Pride. Fortunately (or unfortunately) getting knocked out early, gave me plenty of opportunity. Well done to all the prize winners (listed elsewhere) a great day, a great tournament, played in a great friendly atmosphere. Book my room for next year please!

Dear All
An excellent event again by Sudbury - so well planned but more importantly SOOO FRIENDLY - people actually just talk to you from the Bay horse locals and players to the players at the venue.
Many, many congratulations to Dave and thoroughly deserved, unlucky Curt and A HUGE WELL DONE to one of the gentleman of the game Bob Osborne for winning the plate, unlucky Luke.
This was the best Sudbury ever in terms of the competition day, huge thanks to the Catering Staff, the Bar Staff and especially those that ran the competition and put the tables up.
Please book our tent for next year Dave !!
The only YUK part was a gift brought up to me from a dear friend - well I thought he was - till he especially brought me up a piece of Fiery Fred Cheese OMG that is Cheddar beyond repair !! So at the moment I am now losing the competition of who can find the 'strongest most pungent cheddar' oh well off to the search again

Thank you for that Curt. I thought I had got you on the ropes in the first leg and then right at the end you pulled out a brilliant break to reduce the difference to about 70 points. Obviously I believe this was the best EA so far and it is really pleasing to hear so much positive feed back. The tables were alot better thanks to Jeremy's investment and the time of Alan and sav during the weekend. As taffy has mentioned the scores were down on last year, possibly because the gates were running slightly shorter. Also I for one certainly struggled to find the 50-50 break shot only managing to get it consistently on one table much to the expense of Chris Haynes, on other tables I think like most others I settled for the white in the 50 and the red up the top. There has to be a big congratulations to Bob on taking the plate in fine style and I for one was to see both Phil and Bob back this year. Oh well only another year and we can do it all again. All rooms at the Bay are already booked Thank you to everyone for making it a most enjoyable weekend. Dave

Nice photo of Daveuk1 here with the winners spoils...............
I would just like to dispel the myth that "this year the scores were down" : As last year, there was one score of 3k (last year Taffy's, this year's L C-W's) but there were a total of 36 (single leg) scores of over 2,000 as opposed to 23 in 2018. So, as you will see when the file goes up on the AEBBA website, the situation was quite the reverse - a testament to the quality of the tables and the effort put by certain souls into setting them up !

I didn't use a 2,000 line Tommo, I used sum-total two leg scores AND I still don't have a spreadsheet, only my thoughts. there were at least 3 x 7,000+ 2-leg scores last year. I didn't see any this year.

Agreed that in 2018 Lloyd-Haynes 7920, Lloyd-Driver 7450 and Driver-Hale 7090 aggregates were impressive and not matched this year.
But let's take as a baseline "3000 aggregate over 2 legs by a single player" and incorporate the games above:
2018 3 by D.Lloyd; 1 by C.Driver; 1 by S.Hale; 1 by A.Pollard; 1 by C.Haynes. (Total 7)
2019 2 by Luke C-W; 2 by Bob O; 2 by C.Driver; 1 by D.Lillie; 1 by C.Baxter. (Total 8) And that's not including Dave's "near miss" 2990 in the final.
What I find interesting is that - apart from Curt - this year it was different people doing it.

Looking at the total scores in the main over the last two years there is not much in it 2018 - 326,250 which is 1,217 per person per leg 2019 - 321,130 which is 1,198 per person per leg Top 10 average for last 2 years in narrow tables (only players with averages over 1,500) Player | Average |
---|
David Lloyd | 1855 | Curt Driver | 1720 | Mrs Chris Newson | 1633 | Geoff Bridges | 1619 | Phil Osborne | 1549 | Chris Haynes | 1542 | Clive Thompson | 1522 | Luke Cole-Watts | 1513 | Brendan Hoare | 1509 | Colin Southouse | 1500 |

Perhaps the only way to decide on the relative quality of the tables would be to provide a tally of the total amount scored on each one in the two years.
I am half-way through providing this addition to our STATSFEST but can tell you the results for the group stages, thus:
| | | | | | | | | |
---|
2018 | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 | T8 | Total | | 32880 | 24070 | 26000 | 25230 | 27270 | 28030 | 34280 | 24470 | 222230 | | | | | | | | | | | 2019 | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 | T8 | Total | | 26830 | 32370 | 33760 | 20770 | 32030 | 29990 | 24320 | 29920 | 229990 |
So, early conclusions are that this year's Table 4 was the lowest scoring; but there were three "30k aggregate" tables as opposed to last year's two.
This one will run and run !

All the clocks were screwed down to 17 mins or less this year, so difficult to compare like for like.
Table 4 had a short clock in my group games, we consistently finished earlier than the nearby tables, but it was a tricky top, fast and quite uphill at the far end so balls were flying back to difficult positions.
The table to the central pillar (table 2??) was the most difficult set up with the worst dished slate I have come across, yet, if it was 2, it scored highly. It was heavily downhill at the front and uphill at the back, fortunately it was not quick so the balls deviated less at speed.

what do they say? Lies, damn lies and statistics!
despite having a 'mare on table 6 I liked the two i played on. there were a couple where the D was; A) not there B) very small one of them was table 1 i believe?
concealed a ball behind the 30 hole and nobody could get them. but that will come out in the wash as they say. I thought the tables were quite good! the thing to do is to monitor them for the next time. make the mods as you lay them out. I'm told that table 3 was very, very fast because.....
Sav will tell us but, is a rubber mat good for spreading weight?
what are you saying 'Tommy Stato' about tables and their numbers, or is it their positions in the hall? as we don't have any leagues at Newmarket, we waited so long for this and then it's all over again for another year! I hope we get something going this winter...
Steve, one result was 1-0. please?

Sole purpose of the rubber mat is to stop the table sliding and damaging the floor (apart from buggering up the set-up)
We duck taped them last year and upset the caretakers by marking their nicely polished floor. The mats at Sudbury were too thick, ideal is thin rubber sheeting (such as bar mats!). If you leant on the corner of the tables the rubber compressed more whilst I was setting them up, hopefully by the Saturday they would have squashed down, I did not check as I was up to my neck in other do-do.

Admit it Taff, you like dem stats (as do Steve Hale, Nigel, Southouse etc).
Anyway, here's the final score totals for the Tables as numbered in the programme: Overall TOTALS on each table |
---|
2018 | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 | T8 | Total |
| 65940 | 47190 | 42160 | 53380 | 49120 | 45530 | 55310 | 45710 | 404340 |
| 2019 | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 | T8 | Total |
| 45260 | 56070 | 59540 | 35640 | 49740 | 55090 | 51700 | 52130 | 405170 |
And, as some tables had two more matches played on them than others, the average on each table: Overall AVE SCORE on each table |
---|
2018 | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 | T8 |
| 1374 | 1073 | 1054 | 1213 | 1116 | 1138 | 1383 | 1039 |
| 2019 | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 | T8 |
| 1132 | 1274 | 1353 | 891 | 1244 | 1148 | 1175 | 1241 |
The 1-0 you spotted was when one player didn't take up his slot in the Plate (counts as a walkover to the opponent and doesn't affect the average)
So what conclusion do we reach ? Well, last year there two exceptional tables and this year one 'sub-standard' when compared to the others (probably down to the 'short clock')
But take those out of the equation and with five table aggregating over 50k, 2019 would indicate an improvement, albeit a negligible one.
