Congratulations to Horsham on winning today. Horsham finished on 22 points to pip Littlehampton by one point. The runner-ups can consider themselves unlucky having lead for the entire day and won all matches, but a late charge from Horsham with a 6-1 win in their final series saw them home. Billingshurst finished third. Gareth Lloyd, Roger Taylor and Stuart Carruthers topped the individual performances by winning all five legs played. Thanks have to go to the club for the wonderful service as always and of course to Jean for superbly running the admin desk (dealing with queries quickly) and for sorting out the tables at the end of the day. Thanks also to all six teams in making it a brilliant day played in a good spirit. Congratulations to Horsham, always an anomaly that a team can go unbeaten on the day but lose, but will always happen with a point per leg, so a great effort for Littlehampton to remain unbeaten, well done to the 3 undefeated players.

Great day, plenty of banter, little bit cramped but ok for me, some tables were a minor challenge but same for both many thanks to jean for officiating with help from Stu still think this comp is the best event in the callender, even though my team and i were some what under par yesterday ending up pretty close to div 3! A good effort from Hastings though with Mike and Chris winning 4 out of 5 to give them plenty of "bragging rites" Will have to take so ear plugs with me on wednesday

The same observations were made in 2014 with Redhill undefeated but losing out to Brighton who won on frames:

The same observations were made in 2014 with Redhill undefeated but losing out to Brighton who won on frames: Thanks for sharing that thread Tommo, I saw a very good point made to counter that argument . Problem is for me each 'match' is best of 5 or best of 7 when the single leg format is used. So a team has an extra break in each match. If a teams loses one (or two) match(es) 4-3 due to 4 opening breaks of 10k and then win the other matches heavily, I think they would be unlucky to lose out due not having won enough matches if they have won more legs than all the other teams. So not sure an injustice has been done here, more that Littlehampton are just a little bit unlucky to be only one leg short in the final reckoning.

My pleasure, and I deliberately didn't pass an opinion one way or the other. There are points to argue for both systems, yours being well-versed, but Dipper would argue that 3-2, 3-2, 3-2 should take precedence over 2-3, 2-3, 5-0 especially if the 0-5 losers were battered and dispirited at the end of a long day.
The fairest solution of course is to make both match wins and frame points count - by using the frame points but awarding a match win bonus point.
The system used this year for the B/C competition (point for frame and bonus point for aggregate) delivers the same effect.

The system used this year for the B/C competition (point for frame and bonus point for aggregate) delivers the same effect. I think we all have an opinion on which system is fairer, it is just that when in these competitions a team wins all their matches and dont win overall they often cry 'foul' and that the existing rule cannot be right. The current system basically uses match wins as the tie breaker, which is enough for me, therefore I dont see the point of awarding a point for each match won. Also the system used for the B/C team (2 legs) doesnt award matches won per team, so you could win all your matches say 11-10 on the day but still not end up the winners, but again of course for a team to overcome them they would have to win one more point. So i think the current system is actually the fairest system

I find I have to defend myself again - as usual ! One system = Frames total Rival system = 2 points for match win.
I had - and still have - no preference for either....
Thought (how silly of me !) that I would then suggest a compromise solution, fair to both viewpoints.
It's all black and white with you people, isn't it: no grey area ! LOL

No complaints from Littlehampton. We knew the rules before we started. Well played Horsham.

Best team won on the day, we blew our chance by only winning 4-3/4-3 in the last two matches, when Horsham powered on for victory. I agree with Dave.
