Hi, I'm an ex-pat who moved to Münchenshire 19 years ago for work. As a young man I used to play bar billiards on 3 tables in pubs in Benson, Oxon. So, in 2002 I purchased a Jelks (number on the bottom is 1281) from Ivor Champion. I was told it came out of a pub in Canterbury. It's been in a couple of ex-pat bars here in the meantime, but now I have it at my girlfriend's weekend apartment in the Allgäu. Steve

Welcome aboard Sin, and I see that you've now added a pic of your table, very similar to mine.
To all intents and purposes a Jelkes, made in the 1930s, but having had the Bar Billiards (Kent) Ltd conversion, hence the small backboard.
Nothing wrong with these at all, and yours looks to be in great condition.

Thanks Zeds,
the table is great. Very true, good pace and nice cushion action. I was told it was made in 1936 (by Ivor, if memory serves). I like the small backboard because it's easy to forget to take it out when opening up the table close to a wall.
What I love most about the table is the clockwork timer. It plays tricks with you, sounding like it's slowing and the bar is about to come down, then appearing to speed up again. It really pressurises opponents that don't know its little peculiarities.
I'm just going through a minor recovering at the moment.
