Ros and I beat Chris and Joe in the mixed semi final tonight. Or to put it more accurately Ros beat Chris and Joe. 😄
I now need to say that I am unable to play on finals night as I shall be in York resting between two Man City v Spurs matches at the Etihad. (Wednesday night and Saturday lunchtime). When Ros asked me to be her partner I had no idea that finals night would be so early.

Paul, given that you are playing me in the mens singles semi final on Monday, what happens there if you beat me and are therefore in 2 finals on finals night but cannot play them? Has this possibility been planned for by you or the committee?

Certainly no planning on my part Nigel - I am quite surprised to be in a final. If you want me to concede the singles then I’m happy to do that but I believe there have been finals in the past that have been played ‘off date’.
Spurs will always be above bar billiards in my affection and it is unlucky that I am unable to play on April 18th but as I said I had no idea that finals night was this early when Ros asked me to partner her. And I certainly had no idea that I’d be oop north on the 18th. That was only decided by UEFA a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Paul.....understand what you are saying, and yes I do think that some finals in the past have been off date. However I do not recall the mens singles ever being played off date as the mens and ladies singles tend to be the premier events of the evening. I want to avoid the situation of you beating me and then in turn having to forfeit the final if the league wont allow to play this final on another date. I dont want a concession or a walkover but I think we need to establish how the league are going to deal with the possibility of you being in that final....

I believe that the date for Worthing Finals Night was scheduled on the original fixture list so readily available for people to decide whether they were going to enter any competitions.

I’m sure it was Matt but me spending finals night in York only happened because three weeks or so ago UEFA drew Spurs to play Manchester City in Manchester on Wednesday 17th. As previously stated I would be (as it’s the premium competition on finals night) to drop out of the singles before the match with Nigel on Monday. I’m really not bothered. Football rules. 😁

Hi guys, if Paul should reach the Singles final, I'm sure his opponent won't mind playing on a neutral top on this one occasion. Whoever wins the other Mixed semi final I'm pretty sure won't mind doing the same. Sometimes these things can't be avoided. I have the same problem in Brighton🙁

Paul, as you will be able to play in the final on another date we should play our semi final as planned. See you at the Tarring Club tonight at 7.30....

Martin and Geoff beat Nick and Gary tonight. The Charles Dickens table was playing well, nice and fast but with a slight drift here and there.
Geoff kicked off with 3k or so, Gary had a few shots for little return and Martin played the rest of the time out keeping Nick off the table. Nick was then off fairly early in the second and each player had a go before Martin got the break back on his second visit and touched up with enough after the bar had dropped.

Nigel and Matt beat Kevin and Martin in a high quality match at the Alexandra last night. Martin went first and made 10k and touch, only missing his first split and then settled down with a very good break. Matt went second, 10k and touch, fair to say two moments of very good fortune, after hitting two splits thick in recovering the white peg wobbled twice then settled down to make it 1-1 Two brilliant legs from two great players followed.... Kevin with 21,280 break, no splits missed, playing one 10 split Nigel with 21,600 reply, no splits missed, all 100s, great play partner A privilege to be involved in, obviously to be in the final but no-one deserved to lose Quite clearly the table was superb, thanks to Pete and Terry for setting up as had been moved due to decorating in the pub
