We had a damaged clock at our match this week whereby it was missing one tooth on each rotation of one of the wheels, result was the clock ran 15½ minutes. We ran with that for the match. I had a look in the AEBBA rules this morning and AEBBA rule 37 only covers "Table time at County and Individual Group Play-offs and Finals" being between 15 and 20 minutes. Strange that the rule does not cover games in general and game time has never been formalised. Could certainly cause arguments when you end or extend a game! I remember it happening in our league a few years ago when the bar jammed on the first match and they played for 45 minutes before getting suspicious!! Minor one to consider for affiliated leagues for the next A.G.M. or would that be treading on Association toes?

Sussex County put a rule in this year at the AGM to cover this for all our leagues
3. SCBBA ADDITION TO AEBBA RULES (1) The minimum time for all games shall be 16 minutes and the maximum time 20 minutes. If the bar should drop before 16 minutes play stops immediately and another coin shall be inserted and play will continue to 18 minutes. If the bar has not dropped at 20 minutes the scorer shall call bar down and play continues as if the bar has dropped. If before the match has started there is a known problem with the clock both Captains should agree a time to play to.

Looks ideally worded Jean, proposal for the AEBBA A.G.M.?
if not I'll propose that for our local rules at our next A.G.M. if you do not mind me cribbing.

Your welcome to use it
The reason SCBBA put this in was because the only rule re time is in the AEBBA competition section which we don’t use as we have our own rules for comps. We adhere to AEBBA rules for playing conditions and rules of play etc which start at rule 71
We did increase the time slightly from 15 mins as now a lot of tables in our leagues are £2 we tried to find a happy medium

We had a similar scenarios a couple of weeks ago where the bar deopped 3mins early but as the time was passed the 15mims, there could be no argument?

The problem we had is that SCBBA follow the AEBBA rules for playing conditions and rules of play which we publish to each league
The only mention of time in the AEBBA rules is not in these and are only in the section under competitions which we do not publish as we have our own rules for our competitions

If you'd read my post you would have seen that the AEBBA rule ONLY applies to AEBBA play-offs and finals, not to local matches or indeed any of the newer AEBBA tournaments.

We have a similar rule in the Inter-Area; 19. Each leg should last between 15 and 20 mins, if normal time of the table is outside this, a stop watch must be used to time for 17 mins. If the bar drops before 15 mins has been played, a further coin should be inserted to play up to the normal time. If is has not dropped after 20 mins, balls must be removed from the tray as they drop.So it's only the range that is different from SCBBA. Strange that AEBBA have nothing for national use...too busy worrying how to toss up! Just joking....
