Was a great night. The Rocket may be small but felt like had more room in there than we used to have in the Romans. The 2 Matt's and all the helpers that make these events done an excellent job, and the food was cracking value.

Finals Night Report:-
In the 8.00 matches, the Captains Cup was played on very good table 1. Jean and I scratched around early on but I managed to get enough second visit. Jean made a good 5k opener in the second, I replied with 6k, the rest of the leg was spent at the top of the table with me keeping a narrow lead for the rest of the time. In the Over 55s Tupps retained his title with a come from behind win against Rick. Low scoring first leg, before Tupps in control of the second, although Rick did have a small chance when he got the balls back. Rick left a one-up short when going well in the decider, and he had few chances after that as Tupps dominated. Heather and Jim both played well in the Mixed with decent breaks in each of the 2 legs. Nigel did have the balls back in the first but like all the players found the one spot on the table catches people out and was off.
In the 9.00 matches Sandra put up a very strong showing in the last 2 legs to defeat team-mate Doug. She didn't have much chance in the first leg as Dougie put up a dominate display, but Sandra controlled the other 2 legs, playing particularly well in the decider to give her the title. In the Open Doubles on Alan's table, there were chances for all 4 players in the first leg, but Nigel managed to get a second go which was critical. He also had a decisive break in the second, but as in the first there were chances to be had which we did not take. A terrific Plate Final on Colin's table between father and son Bob and Gary took place. Bob made a great clearance to narrowly win leg 1, in leg 2 either player could have won it as both put in good displays but Gary just in front to make it 1-1. In the decider both players put on a great show but Gary prevailed with a very good score. Well done to both players.
In the 10.00 matches Bella and Doug comfortably won the Lower Division Doubles, low scoring 1st leg but then pulling away for a dominant win in the 2nd as Alan and Dave struggled. In the Ladies Final, we saw two top players of the game in opposition with Jean and Michelle competing against each other once again. It was Jean's turn to win this time as she won both legs, the 1st comfortably and then coming back strongly in the 2nd after Michelle made a good opening break. The Men's final again lived up to billing as two gladiators of the game took park in a repeat of the Worthing Men's Final. Nigel went first this time making a 13k break, looking very comfortable. Mark finished off, then then made an 11k break, looking equally comfortable and finishing on 17k. Perhaps surprisingly, Mark put Nigel into bat for the decider and Nige was in brilliant form with a 21,270 break to earn a deserved round of applause. Despite speed not being his forte, Mark's competitive nature will always see him giving chase but it was a vain one this time so Nigel regained the title, well played to both players on a great match.
Well done to all the winners and thanks to everyone who entered the competitions this season. As always there are plenty of thank yous, beginning with Matt at the Pocket Rocket for allowing us to use the venue and for all his hard work in getting plenty of viewing available which made the night for the spectators. His food is always well received and last night was no exception. Thank you to Alan and Stuart Mepham for all their hard work in providing us their tables and producing them in very good condition for play on the night, thanks to Alan B and Joe (and the neighbours) for assisting with this on Tuesday night. Thanks to the Reverend and to Molly for setting up Colin's table to a very good standard. It would not be possible to have finals night without the scorers, most of whom were willing volunteers! So my thanks to Bob H, Alan B, TJ, Toni, Sheena, Brian, Kev S, Mark, Jim, Ian and Gary for acting as scorers. There were plenty of spectators which is always great to see and I hope everyone had a very enjoyable night.
Hope to see you all at the quiz which is on Tuesday night at the Albion.
