Planning stage is only in its infancy at present, but proposals have been made to carry on the tradition of the bi-annual King & Barnes Open Doubles and run it again this summer - providing there is sufficient interest.
Those of you who are familiar with the competition will remember that it is open to players based in Sussex and Surrey and when last held the semi-final line-up was:
.....with KT and Nipper going on to beat Silent and Joe in the Final at the Stout House with sponsors in attendance.
Please indicate your interest here. Ideally we would like 16 Pairs, but anything more than 8 and the competition will still go ahead. (Six squid to enter.)
Thanks, Clive T (L/V/P, HDBBL)
Interested list (pending sending out of official entry form)
1. Phil Osborne and Bob Hall Pd. 2. Tony Jenner and Ric Cunningham 3. Kevin Tunstall and Martin Cole 4. Jim Balchin and John Slee Pd. 5. Matt Knight and Joe Oakley 6. Phil Oakley and Chris Cox
Thanks for your responses so far.

Silence and Oakley will be there to see if we can make the final again as me and Mr cole loved the wine and cheese tasting we just let kev and Matt play on there own 🤣

Thanks for your confidence vote, Joe. We now need three more to show advance interest to convince us of its viability and I will order the trophies.
There have been recent developments regarding the Stout House which is now a non-league venue after the landlord Barry's retirement. The table was removed before the start of the new season but there is now one back in there.
I intend at some stage to contact Hall and Woodhouse to see if they want to continue the tradition of coupling the final with the beer and cheese tasting ...... I lost count of the times my glass was topped up.

Horsham's Committee agree that this is a goer ..........
Forms will soon be going out and I will have some with me (as well as my receipt book !) on Sunday at B/Hill.

It is fairly obvious by now that this competition should not go ahead.
If it transpires that the Coronavirus has blown itself out within a couple of months - the absolute best case scenario - then there is talk that Leagues will resume their league programme some time during the summer in an attempt to complete the season. The K & B would be getting in the way of that.
The Horsham Committee have proposed that it is shelved for a year, and nothing will be lost by this as it a bi-annual competition anyway !
Those who have paid (only two pairs so far !) will of course get their money refunded and I will be in touch with those people regarding this accordingly.
Stay healthy,
Clive T
