Thanks folks!
We'll endeavour to use the space and behave ourselves.
You will discover that some of our players also belong elsewhere; so don't be surprised if some of the names look familiar.
We have a week off for Easter and the final round of fixtures take place on Wednesday 11th April and following these, I would hope that there will be some comment and banter to play with!

Coo wish we had an award for 'Best Middle Aged Player' :D, just like Honchair got in West Sussex 8-), but trouble is I don't qualify any more, unless I told a fib ;D ;D ;D

Surely you do not mean you overtaken middle age Sparky, with the average age of players we are now approaching middle youth.

Your right TJ I think middle youth is more appropriate :D :D
Only bits of me could be mistaken for Methusulah so you must have me confused with someone else Tommo :P :P

I'd like to see some pompous ass at a top university come up with a formula for determining middle-age.
The closer you get to the age at which your children believe to be middlish; the further away it is to those around you who are older.
The same principle applies in the WSBBL - the older the players get; the older the players are in the "Babies" section of the age-related comps.
Just ask Lord Cheeky ;)
Middle-agedness is a moveable feast!

We sum it up by saying that 60 is the new 40 and 50 is the new 30. Sir Jimmy Savile is now 80 and still walking marathons. Sir Cliff can still "Move It" on stage, and screaming women still throw their knickers at 60-odd year old Tom Jones.
I'm reliably informed that Honor Blackman and Joan Collins are still good in the sack, and Helen Mirren probably still causes a few twitches. There's nothing wrong with growing old disgracefully !
But speaking in bar billiards terms, yes the Over-50's is almost a standard competition the same as the Singles - in whatever League. Maybe it's time to start thinking in terms of running Under-45 competitions instead of Over-50's as it seems to be a more specialised field !
Lord Cheeky is a mere babe-at-arms, by the way. ;)

You are quite correct Tommo a mere babe-at-arms. :) Mr honchair is referring to last years middle age competition in WSBBL Selsey weekend where upon i won the 35 and under section being 36!. When entering the competition by the alloted date i was indeed 35 so was able to play :-)

Lord Cheeky is a mere babe-at-arms, by the way. ;) You what? You try lifting him, then ;) ;D We did have, for many years, just two age-related comps - and when I were a lad, the young-uns competed in the U23s - we ran out of those for a while, so the Seniors (50+) were complemented by the U40s - until I got to 40 and discovered that a decade of obscurity faced me - having won the U40s three times 8-) I was not that interested sitting out for 10 bloomin years. What's the point in being Chair if you fail to put yer stamp on things. The age-related stuff is a bit of a filler, the main comps have their usual suspects, unless they are drawn together early on; so over a weekend we need something to keep people sober! One of the reasons we introduced a plate competition some three or four years back. This year for the first time, we had the cut-off points for these three comps determined by the number of entrants and their ages, to give three evenly numered competitions. Not especially serious for those in the hunt for the open or doubles; but discount the top 5 or six players, these are keenly fought! :)

And to add to the fun:
26 COACH & HORSES v WOOLPACK C 26 CONSERVATIVE CLUB v WOOLIE PINK 26 LOCOMOTIVE A v SPORTSMAN 26 MAYPOLE A v WOODMANCOTE 26 RAILWAY v LOCOMOTIVE B 26 ROYAL OAK v MAYPOLE B 26 WOOLPACK A v CAPTAIN MORGAN I should point out that it's a point per game in this league; nothing awarded for the overall result. The Loci A and The Royal Oak (runaway winners in division two) are turning out just for fun this week. Elsewhere, there are things to play for. From the bottom up: In order to deny The Woolie Pink (Don't ask - long story :-[) the div three title, the Maypole A must, effectively win all six games and hope that the Woolie pick up less than three. With the Woolie playing away and getting all six breaks; and the Pole at home with none (Both against other division three sides) the Woolie will start as favourites. The top two places are between these two teams. In division two; the chase for second place involves, on paper, three teams. The permutations are myriad - as they are indeed in division one for the same trophy, with three teams most definitely involved. I invite you to study for yourselves - you have the placings and final week's fixtures. The Mayole B at The Oak; The Captain Morgan at The Woolie A and The Woolie C at the C&H. Three games with everything to play for - for all teams involved. A word on breaks. The away team gets all six breaks on the night UNLESS playing away to a team from a lower division; in which case the team from the lower division gets them. We like to even things up wherever possible ;D ;) So; while the Loci B are away, at The Railway, as their opponents are in a lower division, The Railway get the breaks. We regularly argue the toss over the number of divisions in the WSBBL - but here we are at the final week of regular play and, while there might be just the one dead fixture, so to speak, the home of the first division most consistent is still unknown too so every game has a meaning to it. Interest maintained to the end for all concerned. Clear?? Splendid. 8-)

I've copied this from our photo-blog - and have corrected the deliberate mistake included at half past bedtime last night too! Just for fun, we encouraged teams to text results as they happened so that we could try to build a picture of where the trophies were going... The write up is below.

I sit here, armed with a pint (Celebratory; or not - who knows?) and here, for the first time - the action as it happened. One result outstanding by the way; Royal Oak and Capt Morgan. Played, but result unknown!
The first text arrived at 20:15 - The Loci A and Sportsman kicked off. First game under way. 20:30 the evening at The Con Club starts with a spoof: The pink ball on the table has been lifted from the snooker table, in place of the usual red, thanks to Martin. Surely a portent of things to come as far as joviality is concerned.
20:42, result number one - Simon Mills beat John Dynes. As a result, Simon secured a place in the top ten, on 42.8 points and Howie & Steve Beach up next.
21:00 Despite the incentive of a pink ball, Kay is struggling. Looks like the Pinkies will need four from five to be secure.
21:03 First point to the Con Club 1 - 0.
21:05 First blood to The Oak, Allan D over John Elliott 5,730 - 1,490. The Maypole B remember have a chance of second place in Div 2.
21:08 Woolie A, and a turn-up. The Woolie A home-stated prediction of fourth looks on as Ted loses to Paul Thorpe. Ted stays on 37.4 points and in the top 16 for now.
At the same time, we get news that Coddy has lost to Martin Cole - this opens the way for Bill Vine to snatch MCP in div two. Coddy is on 44 points. Bill needs a win and 5K+ to draw level.
21:10 Tim Cole levels things at The Con Club. Three more needed for the Pinkies.
21:33 Ian Goulding beats Mark Woodland.
Around the same time, Martin beats Obi1 and the Con Club go 2 - 1 up. Work to do!
21:48 John Elliott requests details from elsewhere, while providing an update on proceedings. GAry Evans has beaten Steve Reynolds in the meantime. Things looking bleak for the Pole B.
21:49 two more scores. Steve Beach has beaten Howie Puttick and Mr Cheeks has beaten Judith - 2 - 1 to the Champs.
21:52 Scores thick and fast; Mr H has beaten Pete Western, meaning that only a gargantuan score from Alan Shaw can alter things at the top of the rankings. - Mr H picks up a 0.2 bonus.
21:53, Trev informs us that "Little Trev" has beate Phil - and things are 2 - 2 between the Woolie A and Morgan.
As an aside, by this time, yours truly has nicked 6K+ on the Con Club table; 2 - 2 and, depending upon how Bill Vine does, a finish in 8th place individually.
21:59 Keith Mouncher has beaten Bill Vine - Coddy is MCP in div 2.
There is a gap as we at the Con Club enjoy a rather splendid curry!
22:32; all the results from Compton in one hit, thanks to a total lack of signal out there! Nik from the Woolie C is in a call box!
C&H 4 - 2 Woolie C. Alan Shaw has won, but despite having picked up a 0.2 bonus, we know that he needs Eric Hampton to slip up.
Overall the result is 4 - 2 to the C&H, so all now depends upon the Loci B...
22:53, finals are coming in. Morgan and Woolie A finishes all square, barring a total meltdown, the Loci teams will fill the first two places in div one.
22:54, The Loci A are victorious, 5 - 1 and Mr H scores a few in the doubles.
22:55 the one we have been waiting on; The Loci B have won 5 - 1 at The Railway; but Eric H has lost. Dave H and Alan Shaw are sniffing around, but al has one solitary ranking point more so appears to have won the MCP! One thing is certain, The Loci B are runners up.
At The Con Club things finish 3 - 3; all now depends upon the overall result at The Maypole - a pub whch has been silent all evening....
It's 4 - 2 to the home side; The Maypole have won the evening, but are denied an immediate return to div two - The Pinkies are top dogs in div three. My beer is a celebratory one.
So. What do we know then?
Div one, Loci A first, Loci B second. MCP Dave Hampton
Div two, Royal Oak first, Morgan second. MCP Kevin Charlton.
Div three, Woolie Pink first, Maypole A second. MCP Steve Anscombe.
MCP Lady Player; Judith Dynes.
No news on breaks, we could assume that nothing startling has happened - but let's wait for the scorecards.
Thanks to all of you who participated! Hope you enjoyed the evening.
