Quite frankly, am embarrassed by just how far things have declined since one resigned as chair! :o
My wife and I represented the totally formal and non-smiling Railway on Wednesday and I can tell you that we had NO confirmed muff sightings AT ALL! Never mind a pink one!
We entertained the new boys from the Winterton Arms. As with all new teams - with players new to the game, that is - the one drawn to play against the pub landlord was likely to be the only one faced with a serious challenge. Sadly for her, my lady wife drew the short straw... ::) We prevailed 5 - 1
As I am in semi-retirement these days, a jaunt in the doubles was suffucient for me, Honchair and Wife were denied the opportunity to gain some revenge for her earlier defeat as Ivan the Landlord opted not to play again that evening. We settled for a leisurely stroll through our repertoire of pots, pegs and banter which is destined to amaze and delight all of you as we guest our way through the season :D
A word on our newcomers. Great fun, eager to learn the finer points - but I do get the impression that we neglected them somewhat pre-season and some friendlies may well be in order now to give them some proper match practice. They'll be giving the Con Club a run for the COTY this season - but there is latent talent there - scores of 3k+ are not far away for at least three of the chaps I met last week.
Was, quite rightly, an enjoyable evening. Thoroughly good company and a chicken curry!
