Schooner B v. Marine View
It was a fun night, none of the Schooner entirely sure what we were supposed to be doing. Our beloved captain eventually being shoved into the fray to find out who the Marine's Captain was, which turned out to be John Hayes. The night was fraught with technical problems and a tough table, but was entirely forgotton about when food arrived, which, as usual from Gina, was marvelous. Top Notch.
Match 1.
Andrew Cleveland 460 *Matt Mason 1470
There was quite the pressure on Andy, being our captain to get us off to a good start, however he just couldn't get started on this one, and despite both of them having problems to start with, Matt came through with a few good breaks resulting in the Marineview's first win of the night.
Andy continues to blame ringouts for his loss.
Match 2.
*Jay Shurey 1070 Bepo 1760
Jay hit off his first match with a beautiful one up shot as his first shot, but none the less he battled on acoring about 20. Then worry ensued on my behalf (as I was scoring) as the black peg mysteriously fell down. Bepo continued on despite, and came up later with a 78 break leaving it almost impossible for our Jay to catch up. An good game from both combatants which resulted in Jay's first game breaking his first grand. Grats my friend.
Match 3.
Ian Grover 1350 *John Hayes 730
We finished the final round of singles by breaking in our second newbie. John missed the break leaving Grover a good scoring opportuity. About three shots later, John noticed a problem, the balls weren't dropping (yes see the pun with mostly male players). We tried pulling the handle. no that failed. We opened up the table and tried again. But no the bar fell again. So we restarted the table completely, resetting scores and the timer.
Ok so restart. John missed the break, again. Grover held onto his lead of 2 (by his score of two) for the first few shots of the game. The game wasn't fast paced nor was the score but it was fun to watch, encouraging the newbie to beat his captains score, which he did. Eventually Grover pulls away. He shoots the red, he scores with the red.
Victory to Grover. 1st game, 1st one grand, 1st win.
(Give us time, we'll deflate his head in time for the Coach House game.)
Match 4. (Doubles)
*Andrew Cleveland & Ian Grover 880
Dave Catchpote & Chris Oliver 1200
It took 7 goes to final get a score on the board, and there was an almight cheer, and the score was 0-10. The fantastic return was 12 scored. Unfortunatly, despite Andrew and Grover's attempt at retreiving their dignity, they couldn't break the grand between them and were totally owned by Chris and Dave. Well played to the both of you.
Match 5. (Doubles) - guessing the scores as I forgot to record.
Hem Brewster & Jay Shurey 910
*V. Townsend & Matt Mason 2930
A Game that was held up by the arrival of much awaited, and appreciated food. Music was blaring on the duke-box and me and Jay knew we only had to get 88 to keep Grover's head down to a smaller size. Matthew came up with a blinding break, knocking me and Jay for four. We had nothing to lose, so I cleared a few balls, striking the black peg, knocking our score of nothing to precisely nothing. Eventually me and Jay, releasiing that our dignity was at stake began to aim for 880, and it came down to my final appearance at the table, clearing the balls and leaving me with no other option than to pot the white down the hundred. She shoots, she scores!
Oh yeah baby, we're good.
It was a good night, and a very good opposition who definatly deserved their victory. but watch out, we'll be back. :D
Achievements for the Schooner B:
Jay & Grover - 1st game & 1st one grand
Grover - 1st victory
Schooner B - 1st loss & 1st Game
Andy - setting the lowest score to beat to maintain our dignity.
Yours until the Coach House Game
