ONLY WAY IS UP - 0 SPORTSMAN - 5
Captain Dave is laid up with a bad back (a trapped sciatic nerve due to a frozen muscle) so, here's the vice captain's report.....
in which Lifesabitch and DA-DM lose their Lewes virginity.......
1) Kevin Stevens 1990 v 6880 Henry Brooks Henry off with 350 due to a missed split. Kevin replied by putting 20p in the charity box (white peg), H didn't get break back, Kevin tried but a fast rebound off the back cushion taking out the black peg (more for the charity pot) gave H the break back, H getting 1900. after that, the challenging table and indecisive balls (shall i fall down the hole or not ??) made each player work for it. H finally getting to grips with a 3k and taking the win...... :-/ ;D
2) Russ Jennings 1250 v 4160 Lifesabitch (BigTJ, Tony Jenner) Russ missing the break gave the opening for TJ's 2130 break. a lot of taking in turns to try and get the break back. TJ finally managed but pegged his 2k break (20p in pot),but got another nearly 2k after that, TJ going on to win ..... ;D
3) Sarah Hughes 890 v 8020 Charlie Cooper Charlie set off with a very impressive (highest of the evening) 5590 break, balls or table wouldn't go for Sarah, as much as she tried ! again, to-ing and fro-ing, Charlie with a 1590 took the match..... ;D
4)Peter Shaw 1070 v 1900 Gina Sherratt Peter lost about 500 with a black peg (more money in pot), Gina not quite at home on the table came off with 20, but a 'lovely leave' of one behind the ten and one behind the 100.... Peter again blacked trying to hit one of them (charity pot says thank you very much...!!!), ...Gina replied with a break of 900. Both players kept it close scoring but Gina hung on to win sinking the last ball in the 100 after third time of both trying..... ;D ;D
5) Liam Churcher 2280 v 4340 DA-DM Colleen off with 300 after hitting one up too soft/not hard enough, Liam replying with about 1k, Colleen replied with 1350, Liam coming back with another 1100, and so it went on..... Liam didn't quite reply to Colleen's 1250, very close game with Colleen taking the vice captains' innings.... ;D apparently captain Dave is vERY proud !! ;D ;D ;D
p.s. game 3 was swapped with 5 as Sarah needed to leave early but both teams agreed to the arrangement (ie. Charlie and Sarah were drawn 5th but swopped with Colleen & Liam in 3rd) match report done as played.....
Thank you to the ONLY WAY IS UP for a lovely evening, a nice table (DA thought so anyway !), friendly bunch and very nice food. The charity pot was well fed (wether we had pegs or not !), and we all hope the parkinsons charity does very well.
all the best to Nigel xx

Black Horse 4 Brewers Arms 1
UMMMMMMMMM Not a lot i can say on this one guys and girls, Sir Jock took the one and only point for the Brewers in game 5.
The table well what can i say, nothing polite so i wont say anything ;D to give a rough idea about the table bearing in mind the good standard of players there last night the Brewers managed to hit a team score of only about 7500 we could have had 8300 if i didnt black peg through fraustration and who cares attitude. (i only had 900 (if i was lucky) on the board with the last ball on the table), whilst the Black Horse only managed about 12,900.

Brewers Droops 1 Black Horse 4
Richard Todd 3610 A Farmer Wright 1840 Dave Todd 2150 Kev Hall B/P Dave Knight 2530 Pete Hall 2010 Jan Bithell 2950 Adam Bateup 1430 Ric Bithell 1730 Richard Jeffrey 2370
I'll just echo kev's sentiments here, the polite thing to do is, to just say a poor result from us on a 'difficult' top. (trust me thats as polite as your ever gonna get) A big thank you to the toads players, who really did manage to not walk into all of us, just some of us!! (in fact just us I think, or was it just me?)
Well played the Blackhorse, scores reflect that it was indeed a tough night for both teams, but home adavantage won through. Well done!!

Plough 4 Horns Lodge 1
Nice to be back at the Plough after 26 years!. A good result for us on a very pleasant and friendly evening, just a pity that I was the one to lose on my first match for the Plough.

5) Liam Churcher 2280 v 4340 DA-DM Well played Colleen ! Young Liam (only 15) has a great future if he sticks with the game, he was getting the better of me in the exchanges last Wednesday until he went too close to the black for an in-off 100. He would probably have beaten me otherwise. To thrash him with 4k-plus is VERY impressive. Hope Dave's back gets better, btw - maybe he should give the swinging from the chandeliers a miss for a while. ;) ;D

I was 15 when I started playing in the Lewes league, and I have to say the guy did show a lot of potential, he seemed to have a natural aptitude for the game which means there could be a lot of potential for the future here

He's really not well bless him !...
yes, my new personal best in any game !! I enjoyed the table, just sorry i didn't get bigger breaks on it.... :-/ I think we'll all be watching out for Liam as he shows a natural talent.
I played (and beat) Jason clough way back when he was a rookie in Littlehampton, and i've done it a couple of other times in the past too - I'm just glad that i played these rookies before they went on to being bigger better players !! ;D i've not played any of them since......

An enjoyable evening at the Brewers, hope most follow the lead and fill teh pot for a worthy cause. Well done to the stand in skipper who played really well, especially considering she was as nervous as a kitten about letting the side done. Certainly the young mman she played had a good cue action, knew his shots and will be a force to reckon with. Also nice to see a pub that was thriving rather than being like a graveyard, very often with the economic climate there only seems to be the bar billiard teams in a pub.

Its tough, but the Brewers seems to maintain the "Local Drinker" atmosphere, something I am quite envious of, what with it being in a town and the Fish being in the middle of nowhere. We can be packed at times, but dead at others...it seems to go from one extreme to the other!
