Duke of Wellington 5 - 0 Swan A
Great result for the home side as the captain was rested.
Henry Brooks 10,240 - 7,020* Vern Blake Chris Tupper 9,280* - 580 Terry Denyer Pete Brown 8,920 - 2,570* Ron Brewer Chris Reeves 10,910* -2,750 Pete Mansfield John Perrin 1,460 - 1,370* Dave France
Game 1 - Vern off with 3k, Henry took the lead with a 4k break. H got them back first and got up to his final score of 10k, and did well to hit a tricky ball over the 10 hole after leaving a 50-10 short. Vern finished off with 4k to complete a very good opening game.
Game 2 - Tupp made 3k to start with and got the break back 3 more times to make his final score of 9k. Terry just couldn't get to grips with the table and never got the break back despite opportunities.
Game 3 - Ron and Pete both just over 1k apiece on their openers. Pete then made another 2k but then went bananas and knocked in another 5k to knock in his best ever score of 8,920. All left handed by the way! A great performance - Pete has very much improved over the year we have been team mates.
Game 4 - This left Reevesey with the break and a chance to go for a biggy. 9k in 8 minutes but a poor 50-30 attmept saw him off. PeteM couldn't chase down the defecit and Chris made it over the 10k barrier to put the Duke 4-0 up.
Game 5 - the match may have been over, but that won't stop two natural showman, John Perrin and Dave France, to entertain the crowd. An opening break lost by Dave France was copied John, and more score was lost than kept and 12 mins in it was 800 to 200 in Dave's favour. A few scores were added and with the bar gone John was 310 behind with a ball in his hand and one behind the 20. With a shot he apparently "plays all the time" John gets the thinnest of contacts on the white and gets his cueball straight down the 200. He then teases us by missing his first attempt at the 200 but makes the second one after Dave missed the 100.
Well done to my team - to win 5-0 against a team like that is a great acheivement

Boys (mainly) beat the girls at the Marquis. Jean won for the girls over the honorary boy (Jacqui).
Nick, Figgins, Ridley and me won for the boys.

Three Horseshoes `A` 4 Schooner `A` 1
Good start to the Home campaign for the Shoes `A` against a Schooner side that has played our table twice in the last 6 weeks, so potentially, a tricky fixture.
KT 10,740 Terry 5,610 - Terry always seems to be on first against me in this tie. In recent bouts, he has only managed to amass about 3k on his opening break, this time he reached 5k+ before hitting a split too thick. A couple of good shots later I had retrieved the balls and touched on when reaching 9k. 1 - 0
Mal 10,700 Steve Aylmore 2,080 - Mal off after missing his first split and Steve got them back straight away. He made about 2k but let Mal back in. This time, he put his one-up behind and came off again, but he retrieved the balls once more and settled down to make about 9k. 2 - 0
Stu 2,750 Bill 5,630 - Bill played his second break too thin and came off next shot. Stu had several chances to get the break back but to no avail. Bill then made a steady 5k to win the point. 2 - 1
BB Reaper 13,210 TJ 50 - Kev was in sparking form and kicked off with 10k giving TJ no chance. 3 - 1
Lolly 7,540 Rick C. - Rick & Chris had a couple of small breaks early on. Chris then made a nice 5k to continue his great start in Worthing. 4 - 1
Good luck to Lolly and his team on sunday in the team championships (and the Tap of course) ;)
The Swan `B` beat the Windmill 4 - 1 and the Stadium were 3 - 0 up against the Shoes `B`, don`t know the final score though.

Stadium 5 – 0 Three Horseshoes B
A little first-home-game rust was in evidence at the Stadium last night, as players from both sides struggled on occasion to get the measure of the table.
An honourable exception was Grant Tully, who delivered his customary “2nd game, with-the-break, 10k & touch”.
There were wins for Martin Smith, Grant, Tony Lewis, Geoff Jukes, and Mark James, v Chris Lucas, Dave Millard, Hayley Tunstall, Adam Squires & Dave Jones respectively. Dave Jones was the highest scorer for the visitors, with 4700 or so.

A good evening at the Shoes, and a bit of a diappoinment for the Schooner having played the excellent top three times, Could easily have been 5-0 as the normally reliable Bill took time to get going. Kevin H played well and sure he would not have made a mistake for the whole bar time if he was not ensuring the team win. Not one mistake in his 10k and an honour to watch. Terry the only away player to look at all comfortable, until changing his mindon the shot.
