Good scrap at the Tarring Club. Alan eventually coming out as the 2-1 wimnner against Tony Jenner in the mens singles. We think the table improved as it warmed up.

Or prehaps the players warmed up Alan. On a serious note well played and it certainly could have gone either way, but the challenge you set me in the decider certainly was testing. Good luck in future rounds, and thanks to Edge for turning out to score for us.

Bill Kerr & Helen Brewster beat myself and mama hall 2-0 last night. Bill dominated the 1st with a steady 7k+ opener and was back on again shortly after to play out with another 3k+.
I hit my split too soft in the second match and was off on 500. It was back round to Bill again in no time at all and we got to watch him again put in another 7k+ break to seal the win.
Well played to them and best of luck in the next round. Thank you KT for scoring Bill's Match ;D

I beat Andy Cleveland 2-1 at the Horseshoes tonight.
Andy took the first, I took the second. The third was neck and neck, I won it by getting the break back just in the closing minutes to overturn a 700 deficit, it was a game that shouldn't have had a loser, with decent scores for a lower div game, roughly 4k to 3.5k.

Ladies Singles - C.Park v H.Brewster @ the Duke of Wellington being played tonight @ 9 pm Mixed Doubles - B.Kerr/H.Brewster v D.Ingram/C.Park @ the Romans to be played after the game at the Duke (about 10 ish) Results from these matches..... Colleen beat Helen 2-1 at Duke of Wellington. Colleen * 2,110 - 1,480 Helen A solid opener from Colleen with Helen always trying to play catch up! ;D Colleen 1,600 - 2,300 * Helen Almost a repeat of game 1...... but the other way around. ;) Colleen 4,580 - 790 Helen Colleen opened with a nice 1.6k break and followed it up quickly with another 1.2k. Helen unfortunately lost a good 1k+ break later in the game which would have made the final scores closer. ;D A quick drive down the road to the Romans followed...... Colleen & Dave beat Helen & Bill 2-1 Bill won the toss, I opened with about 1k before missing a split and the game became pretty scrappy for a while. I managed to get the balls back later and we won the first by about 4k to 1.5k. Bill's break and he pushed the one up behind, I got the break back but hit it too thin. Bill & Helen then settled better than us, with Bill pushing in a solid 3k near the end, although I did get the break back I never had enough time to catch them. Bill & Helen won this game by about 4.8k to 2k. The ladies turn to break, both came off early and the game became scrappy. Colleen got the balls back and was going well on 1.6k before she left one behind the 50 hole and missed it. Luckily, I managed to get them back again and pushed in a slow 4k+ to make sure of the win. Enjoyable evening with good company, as always. ;D

I think someone must have over compensated a bit when adjusting the table (or it's been moved again). A week or so ago it was going well over to the right

Mr Reaper Beat Neil Higgins 2-0 Last night @ Duke of Wellington.
Neil was off on about 1500, i retrieved the balls and touched on 8800, and then i started to panic, as Neil Retrieved the break back and the bar dropped whilst he was on 6k.
I opened the same way as Neil did from the first on about 1500, But was the first to get them back and broke down on 7k. Neil then retrieved the balls but broke down on about 3500. i finished the rest of the time. 10k played 3500.
Thankyou Mamahall for driving and scoring :-*

A cautionary tale of lots of games on one night with an element of I told you so!
Chris Oakley and His Partner L Petch played Hickman and Goodwin in the lower Div Doubles at the Marquis at 7.30pm The result went 2-1 to the second named team.
At the allotted time of 8.30 I arrived at the Marquis with my partner Micky Pope to play against Oakley/Petch in the Mens Doubles. It really wasn't an issue that the youngsters had just played the table and was well within the Worthing Rules for competition play. Anyway Mick and I won 2-0. Mick doing the work in the first and me in the second.
We were all finished by 9.15 and decided that we might as well play our singles the same night as we had also be drawn at the Marquis.
Mick had the break in the first game and went off with 7K, I could only reply with 4K leaving Micky time for another 2K 1-0 to Mick
In the second game I scored a trouble free 8.5K at a a good pace but Micky only had time for 5K 1-1
So onto the decider. Micky was playing well but got into two minds on a split shot and came off at just under 4K. The balls duly came back and I plodded through an 8K break and touched up. Game over -
not so
Micky played the game through to the bar going and was left with 3 balls .........
I interrupt the flow of the match description to reflect on a conversation I had in the car with Gina and Charlie coming back from our successful day at the Redhill Invitation. We were talking about games we had been involved with had been won and lost after the bar had dropped. Anyway back to the commentary.
Mick knew he had lost the game and the match so in his usual undemonstrative way he attempted an outrageous shot to bring two balls back into the 200 hole. He narrowly missed but left both ball trickily in proximity to the black peg. Guess the rest
Mick won 2-1. I wished him good luck for the next round.
Another entry in the book of heroic failures.
