Great job on the ranking system.
Just a thought, is the input automatic, also the next year does it take into account every other game the 0.9 multiplier for Division 2 players as they will play upper division teams. Also a division 2 player should get a + 0.1 multiplier for defeating a Division 1 player?? Because to be fair that multiplier against should also benefit the other way so it's not a negative distribution of points but incentive for division 2 players.

Thanks Johnny, the system does seem to be working well, although I'm sure it can be tweaked to make it even better.
I enter the scores for each game in a match into an admin page that I've written which works out all of the ranking points automatically using the formula I code into it.
The formula still works when a division one player meets a division two player. The ranking points gained by the division one player in that game will be multiplied by 0.9, whereas the ranking points gained by the division two player will not decrease (as they will be multiplied by 1.0). So, if you (or any player in fact) beat a division one player away from home scoring over 4000 points having started against the break, you would get 15.75 ranking points! If a division one player did the same but against a division two team, that player would only gain 14.175 ranking points.
The idea is that on average, beating a division one player is harder than beating a division two player. What's difficult is deciding how much more difficult it is, thus what value to give that factor. I'm not sure 0.9 is right at the moment, but after analysing stats from the first few rounds of games from the second half of the season I should be able to use a more realistic figure.

You could work the average score of the divisions and that willl give you a clearer insight to the difference.
Also next year, if you wanted to do the players distribution of points fairer you could come up with a formula that means a player like me would get less points for a game if the opponent was lower in the ranks the previous year. And vice versa.
I think you are too worried about stats Jules ::) Just play your game. I did this the year before last and it actually cost me games because of my nerves to play well in the rankings.
I don't play the player, I play the table! out ::) if i'm not called a c*** by certain people in Div 2 *cough :-X
