Stadium A 4 - 1 Three Horseshoes
A match of the highest quality, in every single game one player or the other killed it off at their first visit to the table.
Game 1 - Martin Smith V Rick Dewdney. Recently-crowned Sussex champion Rick kicked off with a flawless 10k and touch to secure the first leg. 0-1
Game 2 - Grant Tully v Stuart Mepham. A few early excursions for Grant, but he settled down and made 10k of his own. 1-1
Game 3 - Ian Lelliott v Mal Spier. Mal broke down at the top of the table on 1800, Ian seized his chance, as in the first two games, it was 10k and touch. 2-1
Game 4 - Mark James v Kevin Tunstall. Your reporter managed only 9500, as opposed to 10k, a fact eagerly pointed out by more than one team-mate! But this was still enough to deny KT time to catch it. 3-1
Game 5 - Geoff Jukes v Kevin Hall. Kevin broke down at a couple of thousand and Geoff made 10k and touch of his own. 4-1

The Gardeners have proved a bit of a thorn in the leading sides over the last couple of weeks, as they beat the Duke of Wellie away form home, which keeps the door very much open for the Stadium and the Horseshoes.
Nigel Senior 8,660 – 9,590* Paul Barnett Chris Tupper 6,340* - 410 Tony Burgess Chris Reeves 6,010 – 4,580 Nick Brown Pete Brown 3,570* - 4,820 Gary Ridley John Perrin 2,950 – 5,890 Neil Higgins
Game 1 – Game of the night and it proved crucial. Paul went off with 3k, and left the balls tricky but Nigel got them back first time. Looking good Nigel made 8,660 but missed a split thick and there was still 6 minutes left. Paul got the break back and split his way to a winning 5k break. 0-1.
Game 2 – Tupps off cheaply, and Tony got a slight lead when he got the break back. Tony went up the middle and took the black peg out, which helped Tupps settle with a 5k break at the end. 1-1
Game 3 – Nick off with about 1,300 and Chris got the balls back with a special screw shot round both pegs. Chris upto 6k in no time but left a white short on the split and went through the black peg trying to force both balls down the back. Nick looked like making sure as he got the balls back but a 4k lead was not enough when Chris made a 6k break at the end 2-1.
Game 4 – The longest game of bar billards of all time. Pete missed his first one up and Gary made a 2k lead before ending his opening break. Pete got the break back another 2 times to lead slightly but Gary made a crucial 1k break. A great shot off the back cushion into the 200 left Pete around 700 down with the bar dropped, 5 minutes later he was still 700 down as he was still deliberating his next shot. When he played it proved not as good as his last one as he missed the ball off the side cushion. More deliberation from Pete and after my last bus had already gone he played the last few balls but still lost by 1,300. We still had the deciding last game to play and there was an overall feeling of being robbed of around 10 minutes of our lives that we were never going to get back………..
Game 5 – Neil off after only 500 but was first to get the balls back and got a 2k lead. John got the balls back eventually and just got into the lead before missing with around 5 minutes left. This was the chance Neil needed and he got the break back and 2k later had the game and match safe.
Well done to the Gardeners a very tight match, Paul definitely the star for them, certainly the beat performance from an away player on our top so far this year.

A night of surprises it seems. Our match hinged on the crucial third game. Unfortunately, Mal overhit his second & third one-up shots which meant he had to play 10 splits, not the easiest of shots on the Stadium table as it pulls right. Anyway, he came off early and that was that. This meant I had to go next against the break & Mark played well, getting out of trouble up the middle at some stage. That`s the last unbeaten record gone this season. :'(
Well done the Stadium, 3 - 1 to us now then ;)
It`s all getting a little bit tight at the top :P

Windmill 2 Stadium B 3
Rick Cunningham 6030 Charlie Cooper * 3750 Good win for Rick against the break, both players had their chances and eventually took his to make sure. 1-0
Terry Molloy * 1540 Edge Butler 3850 Terry off cheaply at about a grand and never retrieved break until to late. Edge kept building steady small breaks. 1-1
Steve Aylmore 3510 Alan Messer * 6210 both players struggled to get hold of the table early on and although retrieving the break neither could take advantage. Alan eventually built a 5k lead. Steve did get going with time to catch the targety, but broke down 2k short when missing the split. 1-2
Tony Jenner * 9940 Gina Sherratt 930 TJ on with the break as he had to get away ( no intention of playing, but convinced he should before he left ) broke down at 1.5k, Gina break back but broke down on under 1k. TJ back in and built a winning break, lost another 2k break, but Gina wsa out of sorts on the table. 2-2 decision justified, but I did have to leave immediately so missed the crucial last.
Bill Kerr 4090 Mick Pope * 4710 2-3.
Understand last could gone either way. Chicken nuggets and chips coming out as I left. Good evening with plenty of banter, table playable, but not the same as trhe Wednesday evening and did catch the home players out. Well played to the Stadium and two losses on the trot for Windmill. Look to try and get back to winning ways next week in tough challange at the Horseshoes.

Swan B 5 Dolphin 0
:) :)Was your comment aimed at me Tony? :) :)
Dolphin players started well in all their break games but were overhauled by the home players when they got the break back. I was the only one who had a serious chance of winning. Being nearly a grand up on Doug with about 3 mins to go then blacking it. :( :( Sorry no more details but I've got no scores.

No Dave not aimed at you, but nice to keep up to date with the league panning out for an interesting finale. Always tough at the Swan, as the home team very strong especially if you leave them a chink in the armour.

Any chance of an up to date individual performance table, as interesting to see Matt Squire as only unbeaten player, some of us sad b*stards are interested in how everyone is faring and it would be nice to see this information at regular intervals during the season, thanks. Most other leagues seem to do this.
