Swan A 0 - 5 Stadium A
Game 1 - Dave France v Ian Lelliott. Ian off at 2k+, a few tense exchanges as the players chased the balls around, it was Ian who got it back first, and he closed out the leg when he did. 0-1
Game 2 - Ron Brewer off cheaply v Martin Smith. As in the first game, the balls were pursued about the table for several minutes. Martin eventually got the break, but could not find the table at all. He struggled mightily, remaining there by dint of more than one fluke, but got the hang of it at last. Just when he appeared safe, he left a ball in the middle, and brushed the peg as he kept them, but keep them he did do. 0-2
Game 3 - Vern Blake v Geoff Jukes. Geoff played a solid game, opening with a sizeable, if not decisive break, and returning to make the game safe later. 0-3
Game 4 - Pete Mansfield v Grant Tully. Pete off early, Grant struggled to get the balls back, but he went on to win when he did. 0-4
Game 5 - Terry Denyer v Tony Lewis. A close game which was decided in the last minute when Tony, at this stage 800 behind, got the break back at a most opportune moment, and went past his opponent to win. 0-5
Together with other results , it appears that the top 4 teams in the league are separated by only 2 points now. Looks like an exciting run-in to the season, just like last year. What a fine league this is.

Yes a bit closer than the 5-0 scoreline suggests Super sub called in from the relative comfort of his sofa unable to make a difference, the result being the same as my last league match v the Stadium, but at least this time I took my cue out of its case!!! Unfortunately the Stadium do not fear the Swan table as much as they did the Elms and at the moment we are really struggling at home

Stadium B 2.5 – 2.5 Duke of Wellington
Not sure if it will prove to be a point gained or a point lost as the Wellie managed to draw away from home at the Stadium B last night.
Game 1 – Tupps v Gina. Tupps off with his usual 4k opener. It went a bit scrappy after that, then Tupps got the break back and put in another 3k for a comfortable win. 0-1
Game 2 – Alan v Regg3y. Alan looked good but lost his opening break, John got them back but missed straight away. Alan cleared him and made no mistake scoring around 9k. 1-1
Game 3 – Charlie v Nigel. Nigel got up to 10k, then potted 50’s for around 4k, for a winning opening break of 14k 1-2.
Game 4 – Mick v Pete. Mick off on about 500. Pete made a 2k break, then another 1k to lead by 2k. Mick got them back and got close when the bar dropped and he missed with the scores around level. We feared another late night as Pete started deliberating on how he was going to clear up to win. He made a couple of shots to lead by 110, but left Mick on ball on the back cushion and one in the tray. Mick played a 100-30 shot of the back cushion, and it worked and it was 2-2. Total leg time 23 minutes.
Game 5 – Edge v Chris. Chris had a kick on his opener and was soon off. After a few minutes edge got them back a made about a 1k lead. Chris got them back and looked settled but missed when 1k up. Edge got them back again, with a couple of minutes left, and with little sense of urgency got himself to 100 behind with one ball left. He went for the draw and got it, and the evening ended with no winners (and no losers!)
The Duke now host the Horseshoes next week in what is a pivotal match for both teams, where the losers will be practically out of the running for the title

I agree with Mark`s post a little earlier about how good a league this is. When I left Wallingford, that league had become the best in Oxon to play in competitively & to come to another that is the same is great.
The scores from last night`s match as follows -
Three Horseshoes `A` 4 Windmill `C` 1
Kt 11,130 T.Molloy 130 - No luck again for Terry on our top, seemed to have a little trouble with the 20 pockets I recall ;) Terry looked to be going well until a wayward 10 split saw him eventually whip a 20 hole & take the right hand peg out. I retrieved the break after a second go & touched on at 9k. 1 - 0
Mal 7,070 R.Cunningham 4,570 - Mal looked to be back to his best when a thick split saw him come off at 4k+, Rick got them back and almost caught up and came off. Mal had two more breaks to take the point. 2 - 0
Mr H 5,360 B.Kerr 4,070 - Good game this one. Bill opened up with 3,800, a couple more go`s each and then Dave posted a 5k break putting him 1400 up. Bill didn`t get them back again so Dave made up for his losing decider in the away match. 3 - 0
BB Reaper 5,220 S.Aylemore 590 - Couple of breaks for Kev in a game mostly played at the top. Steve had no luck in trying to clear them. 4 - 0
Stu 1,820 A.Brewster 6,920 - Arthur played well with two breaks, putting the leg out of Stu`s reach. 4 - 1
Keeps us hot on the heals of the Wellie, with the crucial match at their place next week :P
Don`t agree that the loser will be out of the running in such a topsy turvy season Nige, if we lose probably yes, you on the other hand will only be a point behind. We still have two tough fixtures to play after that.

We still have two tough fixtures to play after that. Agree that a loss to you would do your chances more damage than a loss for us. We don't expect you to slip up if you do beat us, but I agree stranger things have happened this season.

Dolphin 3 - 2 Gardeners A
The titanic battle for the Division 1 wooden spoon goes on. With the losers almost certainly taking the spoils ;D ;D ;D
This match went down to the wire with wins for Dave A. and Colin G. for the Dolphin and Alan B. and Sheena W. for the Gardeners A.
The advantage looked all Gardeners A for the last game with Jean B. with the break against Gary I. Jean off early. Gary took his chance and amassed a 3K break. Jean could not get back into the game and Gary finally ran out the winner. Well done Gary.
:) :)Gary went home an extremely happy man :) :)

Gardeners `B` 1 - 4 Swan `B`.
Barry holt lost his opening break of 5,000 to Nick Brown, and gave him the break back, Nick could only score 500, Barry gets the break back and finishes off with 5,000.
Neil Higgins plays a steady game against Phil Oakley and wins easily.
Roger Taylor shoots off with 9,000 plus, against Gary Ridley and two more breaks later finishes with 12,000 plus. Tony Burgess is in front most of the way but Doug Mahy comes back to win ok.
Matthew Squire breaks off with 5,000 plus and wins easily against Jackie Adams (no Paul, in Prague watching Spurs), Matthew still unbeaten this season.
Always a good evening with the Gardeners, good food.
