Sorry to have to inform everyone but there has been another withdrawal from the league. The Elms will not be fulfilling the rest of their fixtures, so any teams still to play them will have a bye. The points will be added/subtracted as necessary after i`ve spoken to the committee. It does amaze me though how a team of experienced players can play half a season and then just pack up, throwing Divisions 2 & 3 into chaos. Hopefully Glenn (landlord) will persevere with the table, there are still competitions to play on it and our last Inter league as well.
Anyone looking to the future would have a good home venue. :)

This is a shock and as you say,why play most of the season and then give up.I know the season hasn't been going as they may have expected given their experience but surely they could have fulfilled their fixtures Are they moving on?,if so it is not a very good advert for next season. I know we upped and left after last season but there were quite a few contributing factors in that decision So in less than a year the Elms has lost both it's teams and after the interview in the Worthing Herald a couple of weeks ago,how long before the pub goes altogether. I cannot see it surviving myself as I drive by very often and hardly ever see any significant numbers in there. Now they have lost their Thursday extra trade, allbeit however small, how much longer will it be I know I haven't actually been in the Elms since the end of last season, but in the season and 1/2 I did frequent it the patronage did significantly drop away, and after the smoking ban it has probably got a lot worse Much of the loss of trade topic has been discussed on other threads so I will stop there and hope that no other teams fall by the wayside in the near future I know I am not involved much this season and hope to play a more active role next year but the way things are going will there be a surplus of players for the venues available?

Great shame that at this late stage a team of experienced players see fit to drop out, I know it is increasingly difficult for some teams to field five, but surely it would have been better to soldier on and honour their commitments for the season.
Lot of hard work needed to continue the momentum that has seen Worthing increase their membership, with two venues dropping out the trend could too easily continue and we like Brighton will struggle to balance our divisions. This could mean only one league and as is seen by Brighton it is very awkward to maintain a balance that pleases all, and in fact could lead to further withdrawals from that league. We certainly do not want to see the league diminish, and even turn to one that loose teams because they feel out of their depth. Just some points to chew on whilst this season is still in motion and over the summer months.

I think unfortunately it could end up with just one league as at the moment there are only 16 teams left in all divisions. It will be quite a short season if it is split into 2 groups of 8 and what happens if others decide enough is enough and drop out We shall have to wait and see

Hopefully Pete we can encourage more teams to join, and maybe we could even offer a reduced first season entry fee for genuine new teams, lets all get out there and encourage those who show an interest by giving them a game and explaining the rules etc. We have a very high standard of top players, but new teams need it explained that they will be playing at a level that is competitive to their standards. Division Two/Three has good players, but as their scores show not that many that are knocking in high scores consistently so new players could easily become competitive. I am sure there are at least a number of pool players who would be interested in learning the game, if we do not put in the effort to encourage others we will struggle to survive, we are up against it with pubs loosing trade and having to diversify to meals etc. Our one advantage is that we get no trouble at bar billiards, there a good number of drinkers who boost trade on quite nights, the table does not take up a lot of room, and if we encouraging others, hopefully table revenue will go up.

Whoa, boys we are still in the grips of this season!
Without talking about next.
Lets talk about the exciting prospect of the next 3 matches where the premier league could be won by: Duke of Wellie, Stadium A or Three Horseshoes A separated by 1 point. Divison 1 has already been won by Windmill C, but could the other three beat them into first place or div 2 where Romans and Three Horseshoes B are separated by 2 points. Division 3 has also been won by Marine View A but could Romans or the Three Horseshoes topple them.
Let us worry about next seasons fixtures during the summer.
