[edit] Moved from general thread to here
Hi guys
sorry but i need to say my piece and this is probably going to upset some people but hey whoever knows me will know this is how i get along.
I was told, through a friend that i have not registered a team for worthing this year! Oh my god what a disaster! i am starting to think that either your face fits or it doesnt well i am sorry but for the last 6 weeks i have buried my grandson and very nearly buried my father - but apparently this does not matter - i have tried for the last two years to bring new teams into this league and i have achieved this only to be told by a good frend who does not need to be announced that as i did not get my entry in on time this is tough - is this is what this game has come to. ok i might be brash i might be loud but i will always promote this game and because i say what i mean i am penalised. well i am sorry but if i have an opinion i wil say it. i have played this game for 17 years and have made some good friends. i have tried since i got told to get hold of bob hurley dave jones all to no avail. Finally got hold of Jean Over who i hope is doing her best but i am very upset that i have brought in a lot of new players but to no fault of my own no one has thought to ring me although apparently lots of the commitee have tried ( i dont think so) everyone has my mobile number!!!! I am hurt and thorougly pissed off and i know imight not be the best player in the world but come on i am an ambassador for the game please dont take that away from me. if some one could please give me a number to ring i will ring it but if i am not allowed to play in this league being the landlady of two pubs with four teams and growing then maybe someone should tell me what this game is all about. Sorry to moan and i appreciate that some people this matter does not concern but please please help i dont know what to do next. is this game dying ! i sincerely hope not.
Very concerned
Chelle

Chelle, I've just managed to read your post, but only after quite a hunt, as it appears to have got on to the General Discussion section rather than on the Sussex board: Perhaps you could do a copy and paste. (I hope a suitable 'way forward' can be found by the way.)

Hi Chelle,
Like tommo above it took me a little while to find your message.
First of all I'am was very sorry to hear about your grandson. Please send my sympathies to Sam and Matt.
I was very suprised to hear on Tuesday night that you had not entered a team for the forthcoming season. It was very unlike you. Bob said he had tried to contact you but to no avail. The committee was then left to accept/reject the league setup as proposed by Bob based on the teams that had responded by the 31st August 2006 deadline. This deadline was also put out on the Worthing League section of the message board on the 22nd August by Dave Jones. Whether any further attempt at trying to contact you regarding this matter is another matter totally.
Unless a way round this matter can be found, and even as a committee member myself I cannot see an immediate one, I afraid we will not have a Fletchers team in Worthing this season. I for one will miss playing against you. :-[
See you around ;)

I'm sorry Dave, I normally try hard to refrain from poking my nose in on matters that don't concern me directly :o :-/, but Chelle wanted this on the Sussex board presumably to invite a local discussion - and I am a Life Vice-President of the County.
Purely the point of view of a former administrator (Secretary of Horsham League for ten years, and yes, we ran a very tight ship):
1. The deadline has only gone by a week ago, and presumably the new season isn't yet under way, playing wise. 2. Fixtures can be redrawn and redistributed (a pain in the neck for the Secretary, I know, but I had to do it once myself when evidence was put before me that an entry had gone astray.) 3. This is not just a matter of slapping someone down for a late scorecard - a whole season's play for a team or teams, and trade for a pub is at stake here. And surely Chelle is a special case ?
On this basis I hope the Worthing league can see their way to accomodate Chelle's late team entry.

I normally try hard to refrain from poking my nose Pete thinks I'm slow to respond to his little barbs this morning (yes I do have to work hard Friday mornings as I have the afternoon off) but he sure missed this one. ;D

I, too, have re-calculated fixtures, even AFTER a new season has started (on one occasion after two weeks). It is in the interest of every league secretary to have as many teams as possible in their league. But I wouldn't do it twice for the same team.

Retrospective quote from Pete Farrelly, found necessary as he wont pick that fecking paintbrush up for long enough to let me get a word in: "I, too, have re-calculated fixtures, even AFTER a new season has started (on one occasion after two weeks). It is in the interest of every league secretary to have as many teams as possible in their league. But I wouldn't do it twice for the same team."
That was my angle on it too. Everyone deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt once, but habitual offenders are a different matter. I had one team the Windmill Littleworth B (don't mind naming and shaming them) who a couple of times forgot to put a stamp on when sending the weekly card in. They received a nice letter from me explaining that not only did it delay the card but I was having to pay double at my end. The next card had a stamp on, but the following week it had a Green Shield stamp on. ::)That was taking the p!$$, and they were docked a six-point penalty as a result.

What a heart-rending story that is!
And I totally agree about the penalty, if it was within the league rules!
But not that retrospective! It only took 10 mins!

And I totally agree about the penalty, if it was within the league rules! Well our rules were always, 2 points deducted for a late card. They would have got away with the earlier indiscretions, but the committee decided that due to a lack of respect for the rules they would get docked for the earlier ones as well. Hence 6 points.

Hi Chelle,
Great to see you back :D
I think my email to you just now saying to contact Bob was after Bob had called you. But again great to see you back.

What a great result. 8-)
And 10/10 to the Worthing League for showing a humanitarian approach to bar billiards. :)

Hi all
Just to set record strraight -
Last night i had a lengthy discussion with Bob Hurley concerning this matter and hopefully cleared a lot of things up.
Firstly the committee did not agree that it was 'tough' if i had not put a side in this was said by a committee member but was not true, which i am sure Bob will deal with in his own way.
I must apologise to the Committee for blaming them as i was only acting on information given to me at the time. As mentioned i did try to get hold of Bob and Dave Jones but unfortunately Bob's phone was having technical problems and Dave does not listen to voicemails. My post on proboards was written completely out of sheer frustration but was not meant in any way to insult Bob or Dave Jones, who i know put a great deal of time and energy into the game to enable us to continue playing. I think maybe someone had decided to stir things up and they certainly achieved this.
I hope that this puts an end to this discussion and we all go on to have a fantastic season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chelle x
