Stadium 3 - 2 Swan
These long-standing rivals went into this clash both unbeaten, and the match was worthy of the occasion.
Game 1 - Barry Holt has played 16 games for Swan v Stadium, and never lost! He made a slow opening 6k, Steve Mariner got the break back but left his second one-up short. Steve had a couple of further chances, but it was a rare off-night for him, 0-1.
Game 2 - Grant Tully made a hesitant 3k v Brian Richards, but Brian didn't get the break back & Grant did. He was more at ease in his second visit, and ran the table out from there. 1-1.
Game 3 - Phil Oakley was selected by captain Doug Mahy to take the break v Stadium skipper Ian Lelliott. Phil opened with 5900, but Ian was at his imperious best to win the game at his first visit, 2-1.
Game 4 - this was a mirror image of game 3, Geoff Jukes kicked off with 5900 for the home side, but Roger Taylor responded exactly as had Ian, with a decisive, and error-free, winning break. 2-2
Game 5 - Matt Squire left the one-up short at 800, and Martin Smith retrieved the balls, made a 10k break, and touched up. 3-2.
It's beginning to dawn on your reporter that, even when he recovers from injury, he may not be able to get back in the team...
P.S. my local postman (who he?) tells me that Three Horseshoes won 5-0 at the Dolphin.

only to have the bar drop at 11 mins when chasing only 3,000 odd Worthing league rules stipulate that a game must be between 15 & 20 minutes duration. If the bar falls before 15 minutes, a further coin should be inserted, and play continues until 15 minutes is reached. At the other end of the scale, if the bar has not yet fallen when 20 minutes is up, the scorer should call time, and subsequently potted balls are not returned to the tray. If you only got to play an 11 minute game, petem, you were hard done by. I'd have thought that at least one of your experienced team-mates would have known the rule :)

Thanks for that.I wasn't aware of the rules. It seems that my opponent had not pulled the handle sufficiently as after the game had ended John Hayward pulled the handle and the balls were returned without putting another coin in In the end the result went our way,so I can put this down to experience

Windmill A 3 - 2 Duke of Wellington
Duke lose their unbeaten record as the table proved the winner as there were no scores over 5k.
Game 1 - Chris Reeves break against Charlie Cooper. Charlie pipped Chris for the win with a score of 3,600. 1-0
Game 2 - Tupps and Alan Messer had another scrappy game which went down to the last ball Tupps missed the 100, then Alan had the choice of going for the 100 to draw or 200 to win....he went for the 200 and got it. 2-0
Game 3 - Richard got revenge on Gina Sherratt for their last couple of games which Gina won. Scores were low again, Rich getting less than 3k. 2-1
Game 4 - Mick Pope opened with 2k, and I got the break back straight away only to peg a split on a very whippy 100 hole. Mick got another 2k to lead by 4k. I did get the break back again but by then 18mins had gone and so was the match for the Wellie - 3-1.
Game 5 - Chubbster saved some blushes with a low scoring win over Edge 3-2.
I am just glad we don;t play that table in Brighton - giving all 5 breaks away!

It was a strange incident but it was down to your players to advise you about putting another coin in Pete, though we were probably just as guilty.
If it had been pointed out before John pulled the bar and the scores having been recorded then technically you could have continued. Again, experienced players on both sides should have known this.
I'll probably get it at the next committee meeting anyway for not knowing the rules. :-[
It's has happened to me before many years ago and I just put it down to experience. I'm glad to know that you are doing the same ;)

Thanks for your comment. As I have said before I am finding my feet again after 25 years away and I do not want to cause any problems.I have never timed my own games and always continue trying up until the bar drops whether it is a lost cause or not.My aim has always been to enjoy the game and to try and win if possible. If i cannot win I will try to get a good score
