Stadium 4 - 1 Elms B
Stadium found themselves outside the title race for the first time in many an end-of-season game.
Game 1 - Martin Smith v Vern Blake. Vern off early, Martin 4780 break, Vern had 2 further breaks but couldn't catch up, final score 8850-3000, 1-0
Game 2 - Grant Tully ran the table out v Chris Scott. He was battling to get to 20k, but a couple of late excursions were costly, and he finshed with 19,770. 2-0
Game 3 - Terry Denyer opened with 3k approx v Tony Lewis, but with the aid of 2 goes at the break Tony was able to stage a come-back to win. 3-0
Game 4 - another run-out, this time by Geoff Jukes v Pete Mansfield. Geoff was never quite on pace for 20k, he finished with 19,500. 4-0
Game 5 - Mark James v Dave France. Dave was making a determined attempt to get a 20k break of his own. Unfortunately he broke down at 4k, but your reporter failed to get the balls back, and Dave proceeded to add a further 15k break to finish on 19,850 score. 4-1
I imagine that there must have been considerable excitement elsewhere in the league last night....

Crikey ! A scorecard with three near-miss 19ks on it.
That must be something of a record in itself.

Oh boy, Oh boy, Oh boy. Where do i start? :P Championies Championies Ole Ole Ole. Might be singing that one for a while! :D Can`t quite believe it, Worthing champions at our first attempt :o At the start of the season i hoped for a top 3 place, especially with a new bunch of players. I`m so chuffed for all concerned, not forgetting Geoff & Sandra at the Horseshoes who have been fabulous hosts, as most of you that have played there will testify. The food has been brilliant, but i did warn visiting teams not to eat much before they came here ;) Well done to all my team, especially BB Reaper who must have found it a bit daunting being thrown in at the top straight away, but taking some valuable scalps along the way. Mal for having a brilliant season, winning 13 out of his 17 games played. Stu for giving us near heart attacks along the way, and winning crucial legs as well & to all my reserves who helped out when needed, Ricky, Mr H, Dave Reeves, Leon Beer & Lord Cheeky. Without you this success wouldn`t have happened ;) Cor blimey, the drinks bill could be a bit heavy come presentation night :o :-X Scores from last night - A.Brewster 4920 Mal Spier 7000 B.Kerr 960 Chocie 8020 S.Aylemore 6180 Ricky 4120 R.Cunningham 3190 Kev Hall 3800 T.Jenner 0 Kt 21620 (pto) As the result wasn`t in doubt i had a go at Chris`s high break. A minute less than the Stadium clock & five visits to the top of the table (probably going to quick) soon scuppered that attempt, but with a 20k+ score. Hard luck to Chris and the rest of the Wellie team, after beating us Home & Away before Xmas, i wouldn`t have dreamed that we would have caught you, but i suppose any team that can do the double over strong sides like the Stadium & Swan B will always be in with a shout at the end ;) ;) Now how does that song go again........Championies............. :D

Ok I will give you the story of the Duke's game against the Swan and how the title was lost....
Game 1 - Richard Wooton played Barry Holt, and it was a very nervy game, Richard started with 4k and was a little unlucky to come off, Barry got the balls back but hit a split thick on 2k and was off. They both then chased the balls until Richard made a 3 baller which got the break back and clinched the game. 0-1
Game 2 - Brian Richards started off with just 2k, but got the balls back again to make a 7k lead. Tupps did have time when he got the break back, but only scored about 2k before coming off. 1-1
Game 3 - Chris Reeves started off fine getting to 6k, but when on the 50 hole one ball kicked the other one to behind the black peg. Chris probably had 5 options none of which were very appealing. He went for the ball off the cushion, which missed and the break was lost. For the next 10 minutes both Chris and Roger Taylor struggled to get the balls back. With a minute left Chris had a ball by the 30 hole which he seemed to hit perfect but he left one ball hanging over the 10 and the other hanging over the 30 - Roger took advantage and took the game to go 2-1 up.
Game 4 - The Duke were in trouble now and Matt Squire didnlt look like he was going to miss against me. He made 6,500 in 8 minutes before giving me a chance. 2 good shots and I got the break back. I was fine up to 5k but the nerves kicked in, and I forgot how to play the split shot, I hit one thin, then one thick, then another one thin and the final time I did not got the balls back, but I was on 7k. A tenses final 3 minutes followed, but I hung on to make the score 2-2.
Game 5 - Chubbster played brilliant and reached 6k before leaving a tricky split. Probably trying to go out on his sword he took on the split but left the 100 short (many did that last night) Attempting to hit the ball up the middle, the left hand roll ensured he hit the object ball thin and the left white peg went, break lost. After Doug Mahy missed Glenn got the balls back and made 3k leaving Doug 7 minutes left - Doug took his last chance and made 5k with the remaining time toi clinch the match.
A very exciting match although the result did not go in our favour at the end. Unlucky to my teammates especially Chris and Glenn who both played superb and were very unlucky to lose 6k breaks. Hopefully we can gain some consoloation and win the cup next week, and for me, Chris and Richard there is still the possibility of a Brighton League and Cup double.
Congratulations to the Three Horseshoes for snatching the title away from us, you kept the pressure on after losing the two matches to us at Christmas by staying unbeaten.
Finally thanks to Chris Reeves for captaining this year (his first year as captain) and the rest of my teammates for an enjoyable season.

Congrats to the Three Horseshoes and commiserations to the Duke. How many phone calls were made between the two venues or did you wait until the end to find out?
At the Dolphin the Warren Club took on the ladies and emerged 4-1 winners. With nothing on the game for us skippy Higgins decided to give the three breaks to Tony Burgess (because he doesn't get it that often - or the break fnaar fnarr), myself and himself (because we are playing the doubles semi final there).
This meant that I went on first. Good move - I broke off with 300 having left the red short off the break and after 12 minutes or so (many times with nearest ball back) Sheena was 1000-800 up on me. She then decided to play one into the 100 hole right side of the black peg and timberrrrrr - I had managed a flukey win scoring a massive 1200 points. At one stage I touched up a 300 break when 500 behind!
So Billy Big Boots Brown (I'm Worthing B captain doncha know ;D) went on next against Caroline (who pegged her opener). Nick showed me how to play the table with 9000 in 3 breaks I think - I didn't watch much as he was showing off.
Tone went next and with the score 0-2 was unlucky to have to play Jean - he made a good show of it though and lost by 700 or so.
Ridley then went against Chris Richards and won - can't remember much about it except that (as usual) he was like a cat on a hot tin roof, but managed to win fairly comfortably. Higgins was last against Denise and played marginally better than me (still won though) - Messrs James and Lewis should have no trouble against us!
Unfortunately we had to skip the nice looking food and nip of to the Royal Jaipur for end of season curry. Biggest shock :o of the season was seeing Brown only have half a starter and asking for a doggy bag for his main meal. Wimp.

Congrats to the Horseshoes and commiserations to the Wellington.
Well played the Shoes at the Windmill last night, as you can see from above scores via KT our break players were out of sorts, Steve Aylmore played well and I didn`t miss a shot ( at least KT playing the table out meant I was the only hjomeplayer not to play a bad shot).
Shame if as we hear the Wellington are not playing next year as a team, as they always will make others strive to improve their game to try and match their achievements. Hopefully if they are not in the league as a collective team we will at least see some of you playing for other teams.

Yes well unfortunately there may only be 1 or 2 of my team playing in worthing next year.
Everything that has gone on in the last few months has really taken the enjoyment from the matches, and in the end I just wanted it all to finish! I agree it will be a shame, but I can completely understand anyone in the team that does not wish to play next season.
Well done to the Three Horseshoes, coming back strongly in the second half of the season. We couldn't have played much better Thursday night at the Swan, but it obviously wasn't meant to be! I'm not quite sure how we managed to lose the league :( Thankyou to my team for playing so well and putting up with a lot! I will have a difficult decision to make if I cannot play with you guys next year.

Just catching up on news after a hectic weekend.
Congratulations to Katie and the Three Horseshoes on a magnificent achievement in winning the Worthing League in such style. KT a break of 21,620 - that's worthy of a world champion !
And I am especially proud of my Tuesday night teammate the BB Reaper - winning a major League Title at such a young age: The stuff that dreams are made of.
Well done, fella ! 8-) 8-) 8-)
