Kev, I can make both competitions.
Is there any chance of details of how the rankings were worked out and what the final points were? I am surprised that I am 16th, and Richard, Glenn and Chris Tupper have not made the final 16 despite the fact we were runners up in the league??

The rankings were worked out on 2 points per league win with score bonuses. Plus Mens Singles, Senior Singles and Ladies Singles 3 points per win. Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles 3 points per win. No points won for any walkover nor team comps ie Chairmans Cup nor Inter league

Surely the result has been too much emphasis on competitions. I am a bit baffled how a win in the Ladies singles and the Senior singles can be worth the same as a win in the mens singles. Senior singles surely must not count anyway as not all of us can enter? Again mixed and ladies doubles to count as much as open doubles??? I think the resultant list shows that Worthing hasn't quite got it right, to me it does not reflect performances in the league.

Totally agree Nige as this does seem top heavy towards comps and not the league. My own view was that we were trying to include the best players on league performance and to get away from ranking points counting from other areas. It does seem that some players who played well all season are left out when players who only had to play a coiuple of games to reach an individual final receive a large number of points.
I know that this was experimental and subject to review, prehaps we as a league need to look at the points awarded nd come up with a compromise that puts more emphaise on a whole seasons peerformamance within the league and cup games.

I confirm that I am available for the Masters.
I'd also like to enter the Off-the-Spot event on the Sunday, is there a fee to be paid in advance, if so, how much and to whom?
Thanks.

Tony, We also made changes in Brighton, also with the intention of making league performance the main factor when determining final rankings, but also with relevant competitions to count. I think worthing have made two mistakes here, firstly awarding points per win in any competition. In Brighton we decided that the Mens winner would get 10 points and work down from there (ie ladies winner 4 pts, doubles winner 7pts etc). This points per win system does not ditinguish the difficulty of winning each match in each competition - you can't just award the same points for all. The other mistake was to allow points for competition like the senior singles. This just gives an advantage to players entering these comps. It is ok to award points for both men and ladies because every player can enter one and only one of these comps. But there is no competition dedicated to my age range! Maybe I will propose an under 32 comp for next year :P

Hi Nige & Tony saw Dave earlier at the Horseshoes and broached the subject. He did agree that the points for Individuals were probably too high, so we will review the system for the future.

Thanks for the feedback KT. All systems have to be trial and error. It would be impossible to get it right first time and even harder to keep everyone happy, but the fact that feedback from individuals is taken in the correct manner is pleasing.
