Just seen this on the Worthing Bar Billiards Web Site
Letter From The Editor
Dear All.
As I have had little or no correspondence for several months. I must conclude that the Worthing And District Barbilliards League has no further use for its Web site.
As from 21st October 2008 I will not be renewing its account for server space.
On the other hand, if someone would like to take it over I would be glad to pass it on. I would also pass on the registered name. WDBBL.co.uk.
Yours faithfully
Geoff Allibone
Is it worth saving?

Pete I personally think it is worth saving, but only if one or more are willing to keep it up to date. It can be a very valuable tool, but at present it certainly is not updated so becomes a waste of time.
All league results should certainly go onto it, competition draws, dates for the diary, inter-league pertaining to Worthing teams, it certainly could be used to promote achievements, especially to do with the 2nd division and new players as these are very much forgotten on proboards and by the leagues in general.

Pete
I do use the website to check fixtures and dates but generally use this board to keep upto date with results. It would be a shame to lose it now, because (as I know) these sites take a lo0ng time to setup and a lot of work will be wasted.
If Geoff is not getting results he really has no chance of keeping the website current and therefore useful to the league.
The more websites we have devoted to our game the better. I am very glad I setup my website 7 years ago. You can keep an incredible ammount of information on a website and make it available for everyone to see. Any info prior to me setting up the website is very difficult to find and can be lost for every (as players get older and memories fade!). The beauty is you can just keep onupdating without losing any old info.
If anyone wants to tackle setting up a website for Worthing I suggest going to Tony Lewis is a good place to start as he has a hell of a lot of past records on that league. I would certainly help anyway I can, but would not look to take the website on as obviously I do Brighton and provide ionfo for Sav on the AEBBA website.

Well the answer from the 2 that have replied is positive It needs someone who is in constant contact with the monthly committee meetings and the weekly results to keep the site regularly updated and as Nigel says the past records/statistics need to be shown on the site (as they are on his)
Unfortunately due to other commitments I would have to say no to taking it on but I hope someone does before it lapses into obscurity

Certainly it is worth thinking about keeping the site going and in fact expanding it. I need to talk to a couple of people, firstly about the time needed to keep site updated, secondly about how computer literate you need to be, and lastly if people who have the facts ( i.e. Tony Lewis) are willing to help by imputting them.
I would certainly give some thought to taking the task on myself, but do need to look into the above, and certainly if I have the computer skills needed.

The WDBBL website has been brought up many times recently at committee meetings, most recently by myself at this months one. I was quite unaware of Geoff's letter but having read it I am not surprised, the site has almost been static for two months. I think, as others do, that the site is well worth keeping and needs to be run by someone who can get hold of the information quickly so that it can be updated. I would willingly take on the job, but with someone else, possibly bigtj if he wants. Having built other sites using the same application I am familiar with it. The site will now have to be reviewed and redesigned if necessary ready for next season, or if possible the summer comps. Again I can give my input to this.

For those of you who are wondering what is happening to the Worthing Website I am happy to say it will continue. The current site and format will continue throughout the summer showing details of the Nobby Clark Trophy and Plate, along with the summer league fixtures and results. The new site will hopefully be up and running in time for the new season.

With the site continuing, and then a new site being set up, please can we have snippets of information passed through to myself and Dave Anscombe. We both very much want to include achievements of lower division and new players.
From a Worthing prospective we only hear from the top division players on the forum, and the league information is normally from that quarter as well. There seems to be only a couple of people from the lower division on the forum and they post infrequently.
Ideas of what you would like to see on the site would be appreciated, Dave and myself are going to meet Geoff soon and take over the domain name, and then over the summer keep info coming on the summer competitions, whilst configuring the new site.
We will meet up weekly to update the site, but can only make a real success of it if you feed us info, remember we want to run it for you and news of any worthwhile achievement would be appreciated ( this does not have to be scores of 1000s but maybe somebodys first ever 5k). Leagues survive by feeding players in via lower divisions and info about how new players are progressing is encouraging for other new comers.
I am of a pretty dogged nature so will chase up leagueofficials for info, but the best must surely come from those involved. Look at the Brighton section of this forum and we can see how certain teams and individuals are evolving now they are playing against tougher opposition.

Well done for keeping the site going Tony, it is important to use all our resources to spread the word of the game and the internet plays a huge part.
It would be good as you say to get some info on the lower division, it would be great if it came from the players, but even league tables, player scores and rankings from the lower leagues would be a good start.
I think it would be nice to have a history section, celebrating previous winners, as any title won in Worthing is an acheivement and shouldn't be forgotten. Tony Lewis has loads of info. I also have a list of past winners (not totally complete but Tony can fill in the gaps) on my computer, I will send this to you so you can have something to start with. We shouldn't ignore the history of our game, trophies get lost and so do records, keeping on a website is a great way of holding on to this info and sharing it with others.
Tony if there is any way I can assist feel free to ask

I have put a piece on the Worthing website www.wdbbl.co.uk asking members for their ideas etc. For those of you who want to get an idea of what Tony and myself plan to do please look at the site and give us your comments. The site as is, will last until the beginning of next season.

Just to update, the site has now been transfered into my ownership, and I have personally taken ownership of a second site wdbbl. com alongside the original wdbbl.co.uk.
At present Dave Anscombe and I are puttiing summer results on the site and will follow that with Nobby Clark info. We are now just waiting for all facilities to come on board and we will start to revamp the wdbbl.co.uk site to use for Worthing league current info.
My intention is to use the wdbbl.com site for archive history of the league, photos, and achievements from Worthing players on the county and national scene. Many off you have already fed me information for the site and others have offered their help in compiling what I hope will be a valuable tool for all.
On the current site I want to dedicate a page to Premier/Div One with a seperate page for Div 2/3. I will be drafting a letter for all captains highlighting what is happening and the sort of feed back we are looking for. I will enclose contact details for myself and Dave.

Details of all the available results from the Prelim Round of the Nobby Clark Trophy are now on the Worthing website along with results and table for the Summer Cup. I have also included some of the achievements by players sent to me by their captains. If your team has players making new milestones in their playing career then let me or bigtj know so that we can include it on our site.
