If I had it my way, we would have a team for 7 and 5's! However as I have no athority in Bar Billiards or people backing me >:( that is not the case. I believe the Cambs players here are not interested in the bigger pictures anymore. As for me no one has told me that Cambs could enter!!! How am I supposed to know?
I wish there were 7 people like me, then we would enter without any trouble! But that entusiasm is almost Frowned upon now :(

The seven that represented Cambs in the County Championships and finished an impressive 2nd in Div 2 looked pretty keen to me. ;)
You've raised an interesting point about 7's and 5's though - why does there never seem to be 6-a-side matches ? If a match finishes 3-all, so what ? The administration should be able to cope with that.
One of my leagues has a charity 5-game Charity Competition, with 3 singles and 2 doubles, which is handy as you only need 4 players. But with only 3 singles, one of the four misses out, and I always feel sorry for that player. :'( Surely 4 singles and 2 doubles (for a 6 game match) would be better ?

The Inter Area has never been mentioned here, I never knew you could even enter it as Cambs, however now we know (Or at least I do now) we will still unfortunatly not enter though.
Am I stuck in a dead end here or something, all the good things in BB seem to be other then Cambridge, I would love to play in Northants or Oxford (If I was keen keen)!
However I am tied to the White Swan and can't drive yet, so I can only dream.
We don't even have a Cambs Open!!!

As anyone will tell you Cambridgeshire for years entered both the seven a side and five a side inter-area competitions coming runner up in each at least once. However, as we all know it gets harder to make teams up and it is all we can do to make the county scene. To try and get five player to go to place like Witney on a Saturday night got too much and the county decoided to withdraw- in a couple of seasons we actually got three five a side teams up but we do not have the committment now. Although it has to be siad that when we did enter we were made to feel like leppers as no-one wanted to travel all that way to the dark side of East Anglia!! As for Johnny being tied to any team that is up to him, if he wants to play in the bigger world then we would not stop in his way. I think Northampton play on Mondays don't they.

Hi Keith, I never knew Cambs entered :o Could we not mention it at the AGM Meeting as a possibility for next year? Sure there is 5 people interested in going surely!!!
As for tied down, I am commited to the Swan Keith, so I won't be wondering off without very good reason!

Keith A little bit of double standards here. You whinge about going to "a place like Witney" on a Saturday night and then whinge again about being made to feel like lepers (sic) because people didn't want to travel to Cambs!! We always enjoyed our trips to your neck of the woods and did so willingly so please don't blame other associations for your own association's apathy. Tony (from "a place like Witney")

Again something one says is taken the wrong way...... its only last week we were talking to Johnny about the inter-area and told him how welcome we were made to feel when we played Witney C in Burford. The landlord was great and the hospitality excellent I was trying (badly) to make the point how difficult it had become to get people to go long distances on a Saturday, I used Witney as an example as it was probably our longest trip not because it is not a nice place to visit. (PS - Although hospiltality was excellent in Burford it didn't help keeping interest going when we only had three players to play when we got there.)
I may have not chosen my words well but we have taken quite a bit of stick from people about having to come to Cambridge. Again apologies for any upset.
Keith

I think many of us see Cambs as an endangered species in the bar billiards world, Keith. But the counties which have been lost have been far remoter - Wilts and Somerset in the west of England, and Leicestershire and South Yorks from oop north. You are rather out on a limb, though, with Northants as your only neighbours and it's a pity that there's nothing in Beds or Herts to give more local journeys. I think that it's a triumph that interest has been kept going so well at its current level in your county. The same is true to a slightly lesser extent about Northants.
