Winter League finally underway, have added the newspaper report below.
Winter League Results:
Division One: Market Inn A 3 Chequer Inn, Ash 3. Plough & Harrow B, Bridge 4 Market Inn B 2. Magnet A 2 Two Sawyers A 4.
Division Two: Royal Oak 5 Betteshanger Bricks 1.
The Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards Winter League is underway, and defending champions Chequer Inn from Ash started their campaign with a 3-3 draw away to the Market Inn, Sandwich. Neville Potts (3,120) put Chequer ahead, before Market victories for Craig Carlson (4,980) and Derek Latham (6,630), Latham courtesy of a 6,430 break. Latham & Carlson (5,940) took the first doubles, but wins for Tim Bourner & Potts (5,330) and Wack Sampson & Bourner (4,930) forced the draw.
The Plough & Harrow from Bridge beat the Market Inn B 4-2 in dramatic style. John Fullager (5,540) put the Plough ahead, before Dave Carliell (2,100) and Alan Farra (6,950) put the visitors ahead. Fullager & Kevin Kay (6,350) and Stan Brocklebank & Fullager (5,610) took the first two doubles for the Plough. The final leg saw Kay sink the last ball down the 200 hole as he & Brocklebank edged Carliell & Gareth Butcher 4310-4,280 to snatch the victory.
The Two Sawyers won 4-2 away to the Magnet A in Deal. Mike Callanan (7,570) won for the Magnet, registering a 7,230 break, before Sawyers successes for Gary Clarke (3,620) and Alan Smith (5,590). Callanan & John Higgens (6,100) took the first doubles to level the tie, but Smith & Richard Cousens (5,050) and Stuart Richardson & Cousens (3,410) gained the last two legs and the match victory.
In Division Two, relegated Royal Oak beat the Betteshanger Bricks 5-1 to make an excellent start as they hope to bounce back up. Roger Oldfield (2,300) and Mark Graves (2,020) put the Oak ahead, but Ward Griffiths (1,970) gained Betteshanger Club a point. Doubles successes for Graves & Oldfield (3,550), Steve Lake & Graves (3,010) and Oldfield & Lake (2,470) gave the Royal Oak the match win.
