Hello, I don't know if anybody can help me with some information? ;)
I run the Sussex Website and I am in the process of an update of some of the old Inter League records..... ::)
If anybody could let me have first names for the following players who have represented West Sussex in the Inter League Competitions it would be much appreciated......
Dave Slaughter Mel Baker Mark Priestley Neil Martel P Forrest - possibly Pete Forrest (Redhill), unless anybody in West Sussex knows differently? ??? Steve Searle Stuart Shurman Tim Brown Bob Hall
With thanks, in anticipation.

Hi Alan, many thanks for the information. ;D P Forrest only played 1 game for West Sussex, in Division 1, losing with a score of 1,360. I think it must have been in 1998/99 season as that is the only year that I don't have any individual averages for players since 1992..... :'(

Regarding 1998/99 Interleague averages, I have turned up a copy of an email from Mark James dated 16/05/1999, thus "Herewith is the final qualification list for the Sussex Masters. It is an Excel spreadsheet". On this, 184 names are listed for whom points were awarded for Home/Away Interleague; One-Day Interleague; Mens Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies Singles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. From the points awarded in each column, it is apparent how many games were won in each event, but no average scores are given. Mark James himself was top qualifier, so perhaps modesty prevented him from going into too much detail with the publication, but it would be he who held all the information on Excel. There is no mention of a P.Forrest among the 184 names for 1998/99, although Redhill would lay claim to a Pete Forrest, who used to play round about that time for the Flying Scud. The plot thickens................

An interesting discovery Tommo..... 8-) However, I believe that the reason that P Forrest is not shown on that list (if it was the year that he played, which is only a guess by me! ::)) is that as he lost the only game that he played in.... he would therefore not have received any Ranking Points. Certainly I, and I believe Steve Mariner before me, would only have included a player on the Ranking List if they had actually gained Ranking Points. Therefore, he still may have played during that season, but he would only have been listed within the Inter League Averages. Interesting though that there was a Pete Forrest in Redhill at that time..... I wonder if he could have somehow been asked to play for West Sussex in a match (if they had turned up a player short for a game at Redhill maybe?), or even if he played a match for Redhill and was put on the Sussex Website as West Sussex by mistake..... :o ??? As you say, the plot thickens..... especially as presumably they may well be two different people anyway. ::) ;D

I think the latter is the more likely. Re the missing averages for 1998/99, smart and comprehensive Finals Night Programmes were issued out for 1998 and for 1999, but the format differed in that 1998 included the averages and 1999 didn't, as the emphasis was on Master points qualification. I deduce therefore that 1998/99 were never made available for public viewing, and only Mark James would have them. R.Rusk incidentally is mentioned in the 1998 programme and I am fairly convinced that that would be Roland Musk.

I tend to agree with you that it is easily possible that he was allocated to the wrong team on the Website when the averages were put on there...... so unless Alan, or someone in West Sussex, can remember another "P Forrest" who has played for them, I will transfer him over to Redhill as Pete Forrest. I will also change R Rusk to Roland Musk on the Redhill list.... ;) Thanks Clive for the useful information, as always. 8-)

Hi Dave,
To help 'sanitise' the situation, some more 'delving' has revealed that in the 1-Day Interleagues of 1995 and 1997, composite teams were included, to make the numbers up: "Select VII" in 1995 and "Sussex Select" in 1997: Could lend a clue to the Pete Forrest situation, especially as West Sussex took part in both competitions (ie. possibility of Pete's record being added to theirs by default ?).
Regards, Clive

Thanks for looking into that Clive, you are a great source of information! ;D
He doesn't seem to have ever played in the One Day Inter League Competition for anybody, it was in the Home & Away Division 1 records that his name appeared......I think the most likely scenario is therefore that the wrong team was put down next to his name to start with and that nobody has noticed because it was a one-off appearance. ::)
