Am 'Bumping' this noble thread. ;D
Okay, so you can go to a sit-down meal in the local Taj Mahal and spend a fortune - but have an interesting choice of spices (if you dare !) - or you can go to Sainsburys and buy a slap-up 'takeaway for one' which costs either side of a fiver (depending on how hungry you are). :-/
But here's how to manage to eat your fill once a week for around £2 a head.......
First of all, you have to invest in a jar of Patak's Madras Curry paste (around a quid). This will last you about 6 months.
Buy a couple of microwaveable Birds Eye Chicken Curries (if there's 2 of you) at 90 pence each. Buy a pack of 6 Onion Bhajias. (87p) Buy one (between two) packet of (microwaveable) Bombay Potatos. (£1-27)
Prepare the Birds Eye curries by adding a tablespoon of the Madras paste, and bung it all in the microwave. After 15 mins you will have a delicious meal that won't have too many adverse after-effects. ;)
Add a few chunky chips and serve with a pint of lager. (Stella Artois went down nicely last night as the accompaniment). 8-)
The cheapo Birds Eye curries by themselves are bland, being made with onions and tomatoes - hence you need the Madras paste and the Bombay potatoes to spice them up. But the amount of meat is quite generous and the pilau rice is top quality.
If you work it out, it's a veritable feast for the cost of around £2 a head. :) :) :)
