It was sad to read yesterday that Peter will no longer be doing the Bar Billiards Quarterly. I know us two do not get on with each other, but let me be the first to thank him for all the hard work that he has put into the BBQ over the years & for making it such an enjoyable read.
Thanks
Keith :(

I will echo those sentiments Keith, though, sad but not unexpected to say, I'm told I will not approve of some of the contents of the last issue.
It's been a marvellous centrepoint to our game for many years and will be sadly missed.
Things have moved on since its inception and we are now mostly on-line and hence in touch. This board will become even more important as the gateway to our game and, in conjunction with the AEBBA site, we need to look at ways of moving forward.
If tournament organisers can supply us with results in spreadsheet/document format, I'm sure we can work out some way of maintaining the rankings etc. A little work for the tournament organisers, more work for the staff on here.
Once the dust has settled and the staff have had time to discuss whether we have a way forward, we'll let you know.
Sav.

I may only be new to this sport compared with a lot of you, but i have found the BBQ very informative and a great read to get up to date with what is going on in the Bar Billiards world. This publication will be sorely missed by all and its a shame that the minority have caused Pete to stop this. So thanks Pete for all your hard work over the ?? number of years you have done this.

I echo the sentiment of the first and third line fully Mark, however, I disagree totally with the second part of the second line. Pete has always been his worse enemy, he chose to write things in BBQ that he must take on the chin. If he stuck to writing facts instead of abuse of other players, and trying to have the same effect on the forum then maybe it would still be going now. This was purely his doing.

A day indeed. But I can understand it from Pete's point of view. Having put so much of his heart and soul into it, and then a feeling of not being appreciated. He has however left a legacy which others should be able to pick up where he has left off with comparative ease (although it leaves much work for any successor who is going to maintain it to that level of detail): That in itself is a tribute to its excellence. Well done Pete, you were so influential in the bar billiards world and I shall regret your non-involvement from now on.

This publication will be sorely missed by all and its a shame that the minority have caused Pete to stop this. As I presume, I and the other senior staff of this board are most of the minority, I have PM'd Mark for an explanation before replying in public. Sav

I've swapped several PM's with Millhouse today and am happy to say we are rowing the boat in the same direction and he did not mean the comment in the way it appeared.

Can I echo some of the points above. Pete's work was largely under valued and those that take on this task moving forward will, no doubt, realise in the fullness of time that it is even more than it appeared.
To me, Pete has been a tireless servant of the game and the BBQ has been a publication that has served well to inform and motivate players to improve. It has been, on the whole, very inclusive (which, I know, the online only format was a concern to Pete due to it's inherant exclusivity).
I enjoyed every issue and the non-conformist approach to reporting. I know that this offended some but was a very useful tool to 'sense check' and 'market test' decisions that are made. Without this, I fear these decisions, which are seemingly made for the benefit of the few highest ranked players (and their friends) rather than the game as a whole will continue to be made unquestioned.
Thanks for all the hard work Pete. May you enjoy you extra time and I sincerely hope the 'work' situation resolves itself in your favour.
