Well for starters the EAGLE in Wellingborough has been burnt down for ages so i dont fancy challenging anyone to a game there.

Thanks Dave, I'd have put my shirt on that one! :o :o maybe the table at the Horse & Jockey should get some use sometime if a friendly 3 man team wants to challenge a Horse & Jockey select sometime then let us know. good points at the H & J are ; very nice ales from around the country (rare and strong usually) fine wines and extensive array of spirits you can even relax with a cigarrette or cigar (without going outside) ;D oh not to forget there is no last orders called :P Is there still a table in the Horse and Jockey, incidentally?

The Wellingborough 4-pin League will be a difficult one to assess as they no longer have a website. Are they still going as a League? Looking back on previous threads, we have this: Wellingborough and District Bar Billiards League (submitted Alan Coates, Nov 2000, updated Robert McLean Nov 2005. This is 4 pin Bar Billiards consisting of following teams) Crown & Anchor Wellingborough The Eagle Wellingborough The Park Tavern W'boro with 2 Teams The Ranelagh W'Boro The Royal W'Boro with 2 Teams The Vounteer W'Boro with 2 Teams ........................and then this, from our friend Pete the Plumber: There are several pubs in Wellingborough with 4 pin table The Voluntere, Royal, ranelagh , park tavern and more i,ve even just repaired one table that will be heading out to The Red Lion in Bozeat shortly. The league is run BUT haphazardly..... AND...... Wellingborough although they call themselves "Wellingborough and district" appear to be disapearing "OH BLESS" ;D. The Loco although not in a league at moment are looking to get a three pin table for the new season also i hear that the Kingfisher is interested in 3 pin. The Ranelagh Arms is considering surgery to have a pin removed from their table as they currently play 4 pin depending on the outcome of a proposal at the AGM nx month. So with only 9 teams in the WDBBL, 5 pubs 1 of which is due to close soon if it dont get a buyer an 1 pub with 2 teams thinking of a convertion another that dont want to go to away games Wellingborough is gonna end up with only 2 venues and 4 teams. :( Look out Northants we may be comming to get ya once we discover what to do with our spare pin any suggestions ? Keep it clean there may be children present ha ha ! ;)

I never realised there was a table at the Romany, a massive place. Don't think it's there any more, but it was a 4 pin table. We went and had a look there before we moved to the C&A and that was a good few years ago!! Also i think the Frog and Fiddler table is the one now at the cock

What a good response so far! Ok, have deleted three (Romany, Frog & Fiddler and Eagle) but added two more (Kingfisher and Red Lion, Bozeat). Have not included the Horse & Jockey as it appears to be over the border in Banbury.
Any more info you have on the topic will be gratefully accepted.

Not to sure if the non-league tables at Martston St. Lawrence and Aynho qualify as Northants venues, as they have Oxfordshire post code's

You're probably right Big Stew, in that if they participated in any League it would be one in Oxon, but Oxon have put their venues up already and haven't laid claim to them, so they'll have to remain as Northamptonshire non-league venues as the villages are in the southern tip of the county.

I believe the reason they moved from the Frog was because they sent the table back.

.......................and for the rather archaic Wellingborough League: (4-PIN) RANELAGH ARMS, RANELAGE ROAD, WELLINGBOROUGH NN8 1FZ
(4-PIN) VOLUNTEER, 69 MIDLAND ROAD WELLINGBOROUGH NN8 1LU (4-PIN) CROWN & ANCHOR, SENWICK ROAD, WELLINGBOROUGH NN8 1NJ
(4 PIN NON-LEAGUE) LOCOMOTIVE, WELLINGBOROUGH NN8 4AL Rising Sun (Good Shot Rising) anamalgam of twoearlier venues, thanks to the landlord who took the team from one to the other.
As far as venues go - I THINK this is it for the spare pin brigade! the league IS still going though, Tuesday nights in fact, so Mrs HonChair is out there, at the Rising Sun (bloody fine pub too) annoying the hell out of someone who has not taken her game seriously enough... Unless someone has performed a miracle or two none of the tables are that true - which makes a generally unfathomable game even less palatable, personally. It's all bloody upside down....

So, to try and sort out the wheat from the chaff,
..............there is no Royal and no Park Tavern any more in the Wellingborough League, and the Locomotive (Pete the Plumber's venue) are now back in, along with new team the Rising Sun?
Presumably the tables have gone from the Royal and Park Tavern?
Many thanks for the information, gratefully appreciated.

Pity there's no league's up and running in London, there's loads of tables there! Very true, but it's understandable really: I would imagine that most local league venues we play at are conveniently within 30 minutes' reach by car. In London you would be entirely dependent on the Tube, which can be unreliable - and uncomfortable, and would add time to the journey especially if there was a walk at each end. :-/

I go to London about 5/6 times a year, may try and check some of these venue's out next time.

That's great, BigStew. We actually already have a thread going called Table Investigations In London, but it's not easily findable, it's on a Sub-board to 'It's Bar Billiards Jim But Not As We Know It': barbilliards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=capital&action=display&thread=9766You will see some notes of my own findings, I have this as a sort of mission (any excuse for a swift half !) So that's the thread to register your findings on! Cheers, tommo
