First leg played tonight at the Brewery Tap against the Swan
Game 1 - Gareth Lloyd opened with 3k against Matthew Squire but he replied with an 8k break to take the first leg for the Swan 0-1
Game 2 - This gane proved to be pivotal, a couple of visits put Dave France up around 3k against Marc Chipman. Dave retreived the balls and now looking more comfortable reached 5k (8k overall) and was well safe but put the ball through the peg with around 5 minutes left. Marc got the balls back and made a winning 4k break much to the relief of his team mates. 1-1
Game 3 - Barry Holt could only open with 2k and Chris Reeves played a couple of beauties to get the balls back. On 8k Reevesy left a ball up the middle leaving the white short on the split. He managed to extricate himself and touched up a minute later 2-1
Game 4 - Richard Wooton looked good up to 7k when he also left a ball in the middle of table. He too was successful with his shot down the middle and got to 10k to make the score 3-1.
Game 5 - Doug Mahy only opened with 500 and Nigel Senior got the break back but only managed 2,700 before missing a 50-20 split. Nigel was first to get the balls back and made no mistake eventually scoring about 12k.
So a 4-1 win for the Tap puts them in pole position for the return leg (provisionly set for Tues next week at the Swan) The Swan have come back from this position before when,in the 2004 semi, they beat the Stadium 5-0 at home after losing the first leg 4-1 and the went onto to win the final against the Albion...so it is not over yet.

"Bionic Bill sees Windmill through to Watney Mann Final"
Bill Kerr was the star turn in an extremely competitive Watney Mann Semi-final from which both sides emerged with credit.
It was a strangely see-sawing match, with Handcross taking the first game of the second leg against the break to level scores at 3-all with three of the last four "first breaks" still to come.
Then Windmill struck back to take two of Handcross's break games, and the luxury of a 5-3 lead. And Handcross somehow clawed it back to 5-all to set up an extra leg "decider". "Bionic Bill" then produced an almost perfect duplication of his earlier victory over Bernie Lawrance to see his team through to the Final, where they will play the victors of Swan (Worthing) v Brewery Tap.
Scores :
Steve Aylmore 4020, Darrell Skinner 6940 Ric Cunningham 4250, John Lear 2960 Bill Kerr 10230, Q 3930 Tony Jenner 2150, Sparky 2970 Mal Spier 5170, tommo 8980
Windmill (Southwick) 2, Handcross SC 3
(aggregate over 2 legs : 5-5)
Deciding leg: Bill Kerr 10560, Q 3170

Congratulations to the Windmill & Brewery Tap teams on progressing to the final of the Watney Mann Cup.
I have done the draw for the final (well, tossed a coin to be more accurate), and the Brewery Tap will be at home for the first leg.
The final should be completed by Saturday 30th September, the winning team will represent Sussex at the National finals in Reading on Sunday 22nd October.
