It is 10.0 am on Wednesday and, as I am going into work late today, I have suddenly realised that nothing has been heard on the Sussex part of the forum for 3.75 days, since 4.0 pm on Saturday.
Has a typhoon struck and we haven't heard about it on the News?
That would be bad enough, but we would lose a lot of competitors for all the forthcoming events, and that would be terrible.
Someone, please reassure us ;D

Well, I'm half-Sussex, and I'm half here as usual (sort of). ;)

I'm around, but too busy on Spurs (being the end of the transfer window) and Sussex cricket (as Sussex are so great these days) boards to afford much time here!
Off to Hove now to see us play Warneshire.

Sussex Cricket? Is that the team who won a "minor" match at Lord's at the weekend, and then lost a "major" match in front of the TV cameras the other night...
.......against the most pathetic team Northants have ever put out.

Never mind Sussex......... Surrey have today won promotion back to the top division after an absence of a year. :P A feat which we hope to repeat at bar billiards at Reading later this month.

Ah! Now that the cricket season has finished I think it is time to compare performances! Now let me see County Championship Winners - SUSSEX 6th in division 2 - Northants C&G trophy Winners - SUSSEX North conference 9th (that's last) - Northants Pro 40 league Div 1 2nd Northants Div 1 3rd Sussex 20/20 losing 1/4 finalists - Northants 4th in South conference - Sussex So that's 2 big ups for SUSSEX and 2 small ups for Northants - counties that can both be called 'small'. Now Tommo let's have a look at one of the 'big' counties - Slurrey for example County Championship Div 2 winners (that's div 2 - what the hell are they doing in there?) C&G - 7th in South Conference Pro 40 - 4th in Div 2 - so that's div 2 again next year! 20/20 - losing semi-finalists GOOD OLD SUSSEX BY THE SEA! Incidentally in Saturday's Argus there was a quote from Martin Denyer 45 of Bognor who was on his way out with friends for a few celebratory beers and a curry in Nottingham's City Centre. I have to confess to falling off the wagon temporarily and the curry was very nice thank-you!

Barney Bear, that's completely uncalled for. I could say, Liverpool 3 Tottenham 0, but that was said by the wife yesterday.
You should lay off my Northants buddies.
This is a form of comparation of peni$ size. Sussex is supposed to be two counties - East and West. Anyone can claim to have ten inches by putting two together. The same applies to Sussex bar billiards. :P

Barney Bear, that's completely uncalled for. Tommo, I would say that it was completely called for. On one of the few occasions this season that Sussex performed poorly there was suddenly a large squawking from the Northampton area. Revenge is a dish best served cold!

Sussex is supposed to be two counties - East and West. Also, I learned from a Sussex committee member in the bar of the Nottingham Hilton on Friday night that in terms of revenue stream Sussex are 11th out of the 18 counties. For them to punch that far above their weight is incredible. And to thrash one of the big six (and last years champions) by an innings and 245 runs on their own ground to win the championship was truly magnificent. Not only that but Mushy put in the best bowling performance at Trent Bridge for about 70 years and Sussex put on their best batting performance since 1909 (and that on a pitch that the home side could only score 165 and 150). And do those Sussex boys know how to party!

A brief exile, but better than the bar billiards. We were hoping to emulate that today at Reading but only finished 3rd of 5. :'( Ho hum ! We'll have to wait another year....
