Anyone got a scanned form for this as the form Dave Alder promised to email me for publication has not arrived, and two emails since have gone unanswered.

There were plenty of forms available yesterday Chris, but I did not pick one up.
But, I am sure that the closing date for entries was yesterday, so probably too late to post anyway. :(

When I briefly spoke to Dave yesterday, he had not received enough entries to make the draw. I am concerned if his e-mail is not being picked up because I have given a few people that way of contacting him. I do hope the event is not cancelled again....... It does seem a concern.

I assume it is more than just Dave who is organising the Reading Open and it sounds like I am not the only person in this situation.
My emails have not bounced, therefore they have arrived.
I certainly wish to enter!!
Would anyone else involved in Reading admin please make contact and get me a form I can publish on here and the AEBBA site. This must be done by Wednesday as I go on holiday Thursday.

No, it is just Dave as far as I know at the moment.
Very few Berks (i.e. players from Berkshire, in case you were thinking I was calling somebody a berk) get on this site, if any.
I know that I know nothing, but surely the e-mails could be arriving but not being picked up. Strange as that may seem, not everyone sits in front of a computer all day.
Modified quickly by adding a ;D

I have emailed him again as I have no other means of contacting him, KP & I wish to enter. Sav.

How many legs per round is there?
I hope I do get there! I am feeling very optimistic about showing you lot my great potential in Opens.
Also, Whats the winners prize? (I am not that confident of walking in there and winning the dam thing yet)! :'(
I am hoping a last 16 finish, obvious I'm going there to win it but I'm not going to go over confident.

I am hoping a last 16 finish A realistic target for your first few Opens. Success can come at a young age: Stephen Sheard (who's not much older than you) has already won his first Open and it most probably won't be his last. Chris Reeves is in the England team and he's still a teenager, whilst Gareth Lloyd when in his early twenties got to the last eight on his first visit to Jersey. And if like me you take a while to warm up, there's still the Plate competition ! ;D

Well Johnny there will be around 90 players. You will need to win at least 6 matches to win it, and at least 2 to reach the last 16.

Also are you going Tommo? Not on this occasion, Johnny, though Q is going and maybe Sparky too. I've only started entering Opens again this year. I took part in the first 6 Sussex Opens then didn't enter again for another six years but played again this year and made it to the last 16. That inspired me to enter the Kent Classic (at which I failed miserably) and - last weekend - the Bucks. In making the last 8 of the Plate (about the limit of my capabilities at present) I played six frames and won four of them - which gives you some idea of an "average" performance. You asked about prize money. Well it varies from Open to Open, the Bucks gave £150 to the winner and £75 to the Runner-up. Losing semi-finalists received £35, the Plate winner £30 and the runner-up £15 and there was £10 for the Highest Break and a separate one of £10 for Ladies Highest Break. But hey - it's not the cash that's important, it's the prestige involved with being a winner that counts. Or the just taking part, providing you can come away thinking "I did my best and played quite well". Even better if you can take a scalp. Even if you fail you can learn a lot by watching the best players in the later stages while you drown your sorrows in excellent company. Come to think of it, everyone's a winner ! ;D

Nobody can knock your enthusiasm for the game Johnny, but you are setting yourself up for a mighty fall if you are not carefull. Half the battle of playing this game is confidence. Playing Kevin will really show you how professional the game can be played, and you may have a real shock, going onto a table already 20K down. There are only about 10 people I know who would be capable of coming back against that kind of score, so keep in mind that in the early stages of your billiards career, keep things simple. Try to get through your first round against a local player or one of similar ability. Dont head for the big guns immediatley or your confidence will be sucked out of you in a slow and painful manner.

Wise words from Lolly.
At the Bucks Open, wifey was spellbound watching KT and his perfect play, leaving the ball in the exact same place for the split every single time. Afterwards she commented, "and he always seems to come off when he's got about 22 thousand, he must think he's got enough at that point."
"D'oh. That's because the bar's just gone !" was my reply to the person who once went into a shop and asked for one of those special baseball caps with the peak at the back. ::)

Heard from Dave Alder today. He is concerned that he only has 48 entries at the moment but WILL proceed with the event. We have decided to wait till next Friday (1st) to make the draw and then I will be sorting out start times over the weekend, so that they can be published by Monday at the latest. He states that he did have computer problems for a few weeks but it has since been sorted. If anyone can get any more entries, they should contact Dave before Friday obviously.

Can't believe there are only 48 entries. Hopefully Dave can find some more entries this week, some people must have just forgotten to enter?

Not all the bar billiards fraternity are as lucky as us in having the medium of this Forum. And remember how difficult it was for some of us to even get hold of a form. Something has been lacking in the way of publicising this event: At the very least there should have been something (including an entry form for downloading) on the AEBBA website at an early stage. Best way forward now is for someone to liaise with DA, ask him for a split of entries county by county and if - say - Hants or Northants are missing, canvass them quickly. The worst thing possible is for a competition like this to be cancelled and all the entries refunded. :(

When I spoke to Dave yesterday, I suggested he ring round all last year's entries. It is up to him whether he does or not, but he did say the event would go ahead.....
Dave is not regularly on the circuit, so HE cannot publicise it too much. I can only do so much.

KT at the Wallingford AGM did tell everyone if they want to enter to contact Dave and made Dave's phone number available to them. He also pointed out that Dave had said he would take the money on the day, for those that phoned through an entry. I think this is good of Dave to do this, however players should not take advantage of this either, if they say they are going and fail to do so, they should pay up !
