I know we have had similar (negative) discussions in the past but I am now looking for tables and/or players in the Cornwall area.
I know that there are some players who have moved down southwest, are they reading this?
I have checked out 'beer in the evening' to no avail, there must be someone out there in bar billiardland who knows of a table, or ex-players living down there who would like to play again, perhaps we could get together and talk to venue(s) and perhaps get a table installed.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I am still here in Crawley BUT there is a strong possibility (fingers crossed) of an imminent move so come on all you long serving players, dig out your phone books and contact all of our southwest based ex-players - my (continued) participation in our sport could depend on it.
Bernie

You've done well finding that one, Q.
There are loads of separate threads going about out-of-the-way locations for bar billiards tables, and up till now I've thought that Portishead (nr Bristol) was the nearest venue to the West Country.
You may like to check a thread out called "From Eastbourne to Minehead" as well, bar billiard players Peter and Sheila O'Brien moved out west and now run a guest house. Only a matter of time before they get a table !
We will be sorry to lose you, Q, you breathed fresh life into local leagues when you came to us from Slot-cars about seven (?) years ago, with your irrepressible enthusiasm.
We look forward to you forming the Cornwall & Devon Bar Billiards Association, but as you will be playing from a pub midway between Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor, be careful on those dark journeys home in case you meet up with the Hound of the Baskervilles ! ;) ;D

Thanks for the kind words Clive, nothing is settled yet, I've still got everything crossed.
As for my 'home' table... well one table doesnt make a league, I've got some work to do when I get down there.

Okay, I've got another likely candidate for you:
Bob Toye (and wife Linda).
Excellent player, member of the 20k club. Has played Redhill, Mid Sussex, Horsham and Brighton league.
Diamond Geezer.
Moved out west (to Devon, I think) about eight years ago.
There's plenty on here who will remember him, and even may be willing to add to this.

Whoever is going to organise the last inter league match for Horsham should contact Dave Hampton of Littlehampton thank you

Cornwall gets a new player this Friday 4th May (Star Wars day) so it will be bye bye Sussex and HELLO Cornwall.
I will still be around on this forum and I will see all you regulars in Jersey, November time (money permitting).
If anyone is holidaying in the Cornwall area and fancies a game just let me know, I will be investigating the table I have heard of in Launceston and will be more than happy to give any visitors a game (if the table is still there).
Reports will be regular.

Well here we are in sunny??? Cornwall, its been 3 weeks now, and 3 of the busiest weeks I have ever known, the cattery is going great, but boy is it hard work.
I still haven't been over to Launceston to check out the table, I'm still trying to find time to unpack!!!
I've popped in and out of the forum (when VERY intermittent broadband allows) but mostly on my wifes machine, which is setup to forget passwords (I cant bother to login every time) but now, fingers crossed, I've got my Pc to live again so I should be here more regular.
Missing all you guys (and gals) terribly, thank you everyone who has sent 'new home' cards.
It is now a full MONTH since my cue came out of its case and I am getting withdrawel symptoms :-/ :-/ :'( :'(
Lastly, to save me Pm'ing him...... Sav, how do I register Cornwall in AEBBA ??
See you all again one day Bernie

Hi Bernie, Nice to hear from you - I thought we might soon - and hope you are settling in okay. Mid Sussex Finals night went off okay last Wednesday, and young Kev proved an adequate replacement for you in assisting Lady H to the Mixed Doubles title. So that was a win for you "in principle". Not much more to relate at present, apart from the news that Charlady has acquired her own table. In 'Allo 'Allo terminology it could be known as the table in the stable. ;D

Great to hear from you Q, glad things are going well.
There is more news from Mid-Sussex to interest you, Mike and Janey White moved to Cornwall on 30th May, so there's two more players for your Cornwall league :) I'm not sure how to get in touch with Mike, his email address was a company one, although he is still working at Gatwick (air commuting I presume?) he has changed jobs. I expect Steve Smith can supply a telephone number.
I have indeed acquired a table, which will be used by our team in our new home at the Wheatsheaf in Cuckfield :)
I hope you manage to get in touch with Bob Toye, he is definitely a diamond geezer, one of the nicest blokes you could hope to meet. He used to live in Bolney and at one point was registered to our team in it's Eight Bells "B" days, although he most usually played for the Stadium.

Just spoken to the owners of this pub... It used to be played quite regular ;D but some kind soul has nicked the balls and put a small tear in the cloth :'( I shall pop in to say hello in the next week to get further details. One other bit of info is that they think there is a table in the Boot Inn at Calstock.... time to start googling.

See you all again one day Bernie Strange coincidence, maybe, but no sooner does Q emigrate to Cornwall, than there is a fierce outbreak of calls for independence: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/06/14/ncornish114.xmlMy theory is that affiliation to the AEBBA won't be enough, Q is pushing for a place in an International team. ;D ;D ;D IMPORTANT - I do hasten to point out that this is mentioned in jest, Q is the most unlikely person to be a terrorist ! ;)

Amazing news....
Following Aussie Ken (Wifeys TomTom) on the short route from Trago Mills to home yesterday I passed a pub which proclaimed 'Bar Billiards played here' ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D they were shut at the time, but I shall pop in through the week to see if its an old sign or if there is indeed a bar billiards table less than 3 miles from my house....

Strange coincidence, maybe, but no sooner does Q emigrate to Cornwall, than there is a fierce outbreak of calls for independence: Even stranger is the fact that in the six weeks we've been here THREE of our customers have decided to emigrate ::) :'( 2 to France and 1 to Rhodes (does Gary know) ;) BTW Can anyone email me Mike White's mobile number (failing that I'll make do with Steve Smith's) - Thanks

Found an excuse to go to town, popped in to the pub to be told "we used to have a table but the landlord took it out a few weeks ago, other people have been asking where it is, he may have taken it to his other pub in Msdifherihidew (or at least thats what it sounded like ;D)" She has promised me that she will ask the landlord the next time that he's in. I will report back when I find out (good excuse to go to the pub ;D ;))

The point is, Q, with a missing ball channels/tray and also no backboard, something has to be knocked off the price. So someone could pick it up for a song. The missing bits could be commissioned at a later date, meanwhile you have the nearest thing to a playable bar billiards table in Cornwall. Picky or what ? ;D ;D ;D :P ;D
